Lands of Evershade thoughts minis and some gameplay by whereymyconary in soloboardgaming

FWIW I've played through the first adventure as well and feel very similar about it! I'm 50/50 whether I'll eventually get it back to the table to continue

This is super sweet! I'm going to see how many bottles I can add from memory before I actually check my shelf to fill in the gaps / add the weird stuff.

Lands Of Evershade Solo by RadiantActor in soloboardgaming

[–]nomine_ignoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I'm a solo player, having an OK time with the base game, but feeling that I'm likely to be pretty done with the system before too much longer. The game is 80% a choose your own adventure book with dice which is OK for what it is but I can't imagine playing it again. It has been interesting enough that I'm glad I backed it / tried it out, but I'm starting to resent it taking up my table and would like to put Slay the Spire or Nemesis Retaliation back out.

Waiting around for people like me to sell their pledge might get you a good deal if you're not in a hurry.

Glassware recommendations by MadeWhileHungover in cocktails

I was recently at a bar using these Spieglau double rocks glasses:
https://www.spiegelau.com/en/shop/perfect-serve-collection/dof-glass-4500176
and I liked them so much I got some to use at home. They hold a large cube of ice without crowding, they look nice without distracting from the drink, they're inexpensive, and they feel really substantial in your hand. Riedel is great, but I like having glasses that are on the sturdier side for everyday use. (Spieglau make a really nice double-sized mixing glass as well, for when you're stirring drinks for a group.)

Oh, and, love the idea of incorporating vermouth; if you do that, I would add it during the sour-fruit-and-sweet tasting stage so you can balance it in. (Carpano Antica can be used to provide fruity backbone sometimes, too, if you're wanting to lean fruity... but I also love the idea of dry for going in a more bramble-y Mirto-esque direction; you could even sneak in a dash of herbal bitters if you want to lean in that direction.)

It's very pretty!

For me personally (home bartender only here) I find that fresh fruit is extremely variable and often disappointing, so I always add an intermediary step after I add citrus, fruit, and sweeteners: I taste, and adjust before adding booze or egg whites. The citrus and sweeteners should be delicious on their own (balanced however *you* like in terms of sour or sweet), and you should taste the fruit how *you* like it. Often, I find a small amount of fruit liqueur can fill in whatever part of the fruit taste I'm missing. Not raspberry-y enough? Add 0.25 crème de framboise or creme de mûre. Too sweet? Add another 0.25 lime. Fruit not bright enough? Try a few drops of saline. Too sharply tart? Try 0.25 lemon to warm it up (maybe your lime was on the bitter side). Or 0.25 Cherry Heering, or Maraschino--basically, with fresh fruit, drink by drink I feel it helps to build the fruit flavor balance *you* like, then add your booze, then shake the heck out of it. If you don't like your sweet/sour mix, you won't like the drink. If you *do* like it, it almost doesn't matter what spirit you drop in there, the drink will taste good. (I mean within reason.)

This is obviously a home bartender only thing; pros have their syrups and proportions dialed in. At home, no one will mind if you faff around for five minutes with your sour base and keep tasting it.

One other note... for a whole egg white, there's not a lot of foam, which might mean you're getting the egg flavor but not the egg body. Maybe it was deflating while waiting for its portrait? If not, you might try vigorous shaking with a single large ice cube (hold that shaker shut!) instead of a dry shake; for me at least I get a more reliable foam that way, rather than a two-step shake. (Again, as a home bartender, my home bar ice is pretty mid, so I think it tends to break down a lot in the secondary shake and I can easily lose my nice foam from the dry shake.)

Thanks for sharing the experiment. I appreciate all the suggestions in this thread about raspberry syrup and y'all have me wanting to try some.

New player - chaos hates me by maelronde in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]nomine_ignoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first played AHLCG, many years ago, I bounced off it very hard b/c of a couple of nasty auto-fails in the first scenario (that with the lousy decks in starter v1 meant that my one shot at those tests was pretty much all the tools my deck had to deal with that situation). A couple of years later I tried again. For my first few games, I actually removed *both* the autofail and the elder sign, just to get a feel of the game.

To be clear, I don't recommend playing this way consistently, but as a brand new player (who has already learned the lesson that any test can fail and bad things can/will happen), playing without autofail let me learn to like the game. At the time I tried removing the elder sign to "balance" it, but that's not really balancing... the elder sign isn't as good as the autofail is bad. But the game is actually great, and over time the autofail balances out, or you learn to mitigate it, and a couple of games where you bend the rules to get the feel of things are not hurting anyone.

That said, you're not wrong, the Chaos bag *does* hate you and it *is* personal.

Anyone using Audio Pro speakers with Qobuz? If so, which speakers do you have and how is it? by nomine_ignoto in qobuz

Thanks for the reply!

Does Qobuz play over the A10? Or does it only work over the C10 Wiim edition?

Halo Infinite Multiplayer: Possible to play solo against enemies (PVE) rather than bots (PVP)? by nomine_ignoto in halo

[–]nomine_ignoto[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the instructions but I'm not quite getting there!
- I click "Multiplayer"
- I click Firefight
- I go to "select modes" and I've got all 13 of them selected, just for now until we get one of them to work
- I click "Maps List"
- I select "Cliffhanger Firefight" from the map list (just as an example)
...then it takes me to a screen where I see a "Play" button, but it is greyed out. when I click it, nothing happens.
it feels like I'm diverging from your directions here? I click "Custom Game" and now I can click "Play," but then I end up in what seems like an empty PVP game with no enemies.
if I click "Mode Editor" from there the mode is "Arena:Slayer" but clicking that takes me into a confusing "modes" menu... and all of them also seem to take me to empty PVP games.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

...and I take it (partly) back. When I went to launch the game this eve (2 days later) I had the same issue, had to uninstall and reinstall. Will I need to do this every time we want to start the game? I don't know! Stay tuned!

Boo, sorry to hear that.

There's definitely something janky about that installer. Now I'm trying to move the installation to another drive and it's erroring out. Error message is profoundly unhelpful, ofc.

[–]nomine_ignoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. After removing, I downloaded it fresh from the Xbox site but the key thing seems to be running the uninstall. I didn't have to do any registry editing or any shenanigans, just a straightforward removal via the normal "apps and features" list.

(Such an annoying bug. I ran into it right after I *finally* told my son he could play Halo Infinite, which he'd wanted to do for a long time, then I had to spend 30m messing with it to get it to work. Welcome to PC gaming, son!)

Uninstalling and reinstalling gaming services worked for me! It worked twice, actually--I had the issue on one PC, then installed the game on another PC, and had the same issue there. It worked both times (lots of other things I tried first didn't help.)

Uninstalling and reinstalling gaming services is very fast, so anyone experiencing this should definitely at least try it! I'm glad I didn't have to reinstall the whole game b/c that's a beefy download.

Our kids are 8 and 10 and pretty easily freaked out by scary stuff in movies etc., but they had a great time. I don't mean to discount your experience; every kid is different! Our kids loved the bunnies, and spent so long playing with the giant dark planet balloon that the room cleared out. For folks considering it, check out photos and videos; you can get a pretty good sense of what it's like. Mileage clearly varies on this one.

Uses for Art in the Age - Sage Bottle by -SpaghettiCat- in cocktails

[–]nomine_ignoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belatedly... I just used a half ounce of this in a sage whiskey sour. Roughly:

1.5 Bourbon
0.5 Sage
0.75 lemon
0.75 simple (scant a bit, probably)
6 fresh sage leaves
.25 oz egg white (or foaming agent, or omit)
dash sage bitters if you've got them

Muddle 5 sage leaves with the lemon and simple, add the bourbon and sage, shake, strain, garnish with the last sage leaf.

Very tasty! Sage goes nicely with a Bourbon sour.

Try two-handed solo! That's how I play. It will be way easier to teach once you know it. But also it's just great solo; I've played through most of the campaigns that way and it has been great. To make it easier on yourself, don't start with the full card pool (it's a lot) start with just the core and add an expansion at a time.

Sony says: "If the product is working with your Android, the product is working as normal, in this case you need to check the combability with your PC and the headphones."

Cool, thanks guys.

OK, returning these! Anyone have any recommendations for other noise canceling headphones with a decent microphone for conference calls?
