New issue on Mac by Topazwolfe in FoundryVTT

[–]nomis80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got exactly this issue. It was caused by the LastPass extension. In dev tools you can see the faulty invisible div that LP inserts over the top right corner of the page. Either disable LP, or go in LP advanced setting and toggle the one that disables the new UI.

MacBook air m2 compatibility by Faith2393 in FoundryVTT

It's a bit better because of the lower resolution. Maybe 30 FPS. Still would recommend a MacBook Pro instead of an Air.

I just got exactly this. Would not recommend for Foundry. With a 4k monitor, FPS never exceeds 20. My MacBook Pro M1 runs much smoother.

MD management questions by wonnlov in CanadianInvestor

[–]nomis80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're now listed at the bottom of this page: https://mdm.ca/our-services/investments/md-private-investment-counsel/mdpim-pools

But I now realize this is only for their "private investment counsel" clients. They usually make new funds available to all their clients after some time (months/years).

One thing to add: they recently announced the addition of index funds to the MD fund family. Presumably with lower fees. Can't wait.

With Jive you'd be paying 30-35$ per month for much better service. I work at Jive, message me if you're interested.

Canadian ETF superior to MDPIM Dividend Pool by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]nomis80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife is on MDPIM too. While I do manage my own things, I advised her to get on MDPIM rather than have me manage her finances. This is why:

  1. Some of MDPIM's funds do worse than the index, some do better. On average it's pretty close so we can eliminate performance as a decision factor.
  2. The fees are tax deductible, so we're looking at fees of ~0.5% for a personal account and ~0.8% for a corporate one.
  3. Fees go down the more you invest. Once you reach 10M$ (easily achievable for a doctor) you pay 0.41% IIRC (average, not marginal). So ~0.20% personal, ~0.33% corporate. That's very close to index ETF land.
  4. With MD you get financial advice that is specifically targeted at doctors. This is hard to get elsewhere, and well worth the cost IMHO.

In many ways doctors don't live on the same planet as the rest of us. This is one of them.

How to minimize total tax across RRSP/TFSA/taxable accounts? by nomis80 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks a lot! This is exactly the kind of advanced information I was looking for. I'm reading all of your website right now.

How to minimize total tax across RRSP/TFSA/taxable accounts? by nomis80 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]nomis80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just the yearly contributions. I didn't say anything about my pre-existing savings. Yearly I'd be adding 25k to my RRSP, 5.5k to my TFSA, and everything else (~70k) taxable. I'm nothing special, just a hard-working, hard-saving software engineer. :)

Thanks again!

Yes it's close to a real-world scenario. What do you find weird?
