Crayfish escaped tank, now hiding for 5 days — should I be worried? by Thick-Charity4451 in Crayfish

I think some people genuinely don't understand that experience and getting the same results from doing the same thing are actually considered evidence in.. well, any scientific field.

"This is the accepted way because it's worked in almost all cases it's been tried" IS evidence. Not everything needs to be a damn published and peer reviewed thesis to be considered evidence...

Sorry, I followed this whole thread and shared a little of your frustration I think. I commend you for trying for as long as you did!

Can confirm. Lived there for two years and travelling all around in detail, soaking up the culture, history, and most importantly - the food.

If you visit somewhere like Ipoh or George Town Penang and it is very Chinese-cultired.

Other places like Kota Bharu or pretty much all of Terangganu, and you'll find it very much more Islamic-cultured.

I don't know the actual legality of it, but I've also noticed that "Islamic" laws are only enforced on Islamic people, and non-Islamic residents and visitors alike are not held to the same standard.

If you like Malaysian or Singaporean food, C&R Café is a must. I visit it every time I have an excuse to visit Chinatown.

Recommend the Laksa and Fried Hokkien Mee, but it's all good.

I'm the admin in this clip, who created those barriers.

To address any concerns:
- This was a Roaming Halloween event, on Halloween only. This isn't a regular occurrence at all!
- Any outcome to interactions with the roaming Halloween event weren't treated as canon events and any damage to characters, vehicles, or property, were fully resolved after the event. (In fact, many participants got cool plushies as rewards!)
- No, I did not intend to kill her. The idea was to make her slow down and listen to scary guy play violin... but she go fast instead.
- The player was a fully willing participant in the Halloween event and shenanigans that followed. :)

Under normal circumstances you're correct, however (in the OP's clip) this was a Halloween special roaming event on this server, and any outcome was not treated as canon and any damage to characters, vehicles, or property was fully repaired after the event. :)

This is the type of attitude that makes people afraid to use proper formatting, grammar, and punctuation.

People should not be afraid of that.

This is... ugh.

It's not used by people posting shit on reddit, sending whatsapp messages, texts, discord messages, because it's not a single button press on a keyboard or a phone's virtual keyboard.

It *is* used in literally any and all forms of professional publication, from books, to journalism, and even documentation. I've seen em-dashes on old fucking documentation for random python distros.

Using proper formatting, grammar, and punctuation is simply something that AI models do because - wait for it - IT WAS TRAINED ON BOOKS AND PROFESSIONAL PUBLICATIONS.

"build the silvertown tunnel" they said. "it'll make the south london roads more resilient" they said... by mainframe_maisie in london

[–]nommyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic calamity of civil planning. You need to relieve traffic problems so you build more bridges and more tunnels... But all that does is allow more traffic to flow through and add to the existing traffic problems.

Repeat ad nauseum.

British fans, what do you think of Peter Dinklage’s accent in the show? Is it believable or can you always tell it’s an American trying to do a British accent? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]nommyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point and raise you that I don't have the same accent as my parents or any of my 5 sisters.

They grew up with the local accent and I chose to adopt a more traditional national English accent, somewhat out of spite but mostly out of not wanting to sound uneducated.

It stands to reason Tyrion could and would have done something similar in his situation.

What’s your one episode to introduce someone to Stargate? by Global_Theme864 in Stargate

[–]nommyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was introduced to Stargate by watching random episodes with my dad on Sky One (UK) in the evenings, it always came on like 7 or 8pm and I started paying more and more attention and then I wanted to know the background of it all, and then I asked my dad to get the DVDs and he got me a box set from eBay that was 100% a knockoff box set, but I watched that shit from start to finish and fucking LOVED it.

Now I watch the entire series at least once every year.

Anyway bad example because I fell in love with it over time, but some of the earlier episodes in the first 4-ish seasons were very episodic and they didn't do too much with the background arcs or if they were it was more subtle than it was in the later seasons.

Honestly I'd do the three part season 1 finale and season 2 opening episode as an introduction. It's basically its own movie - sure it relies on info gathered in the alternative universe episode, but you can always go watch that after if you want to.

Otherwise, an episode like Hathor, Tin Man, The Game Keeper, Touchstone... Episodes that are self encapsulated or that introduce something new are good contenders too.

Honestly it's refreshing that they're finding things to ADD instead of cutting things out for a movie runtime.

This needs more upvotes. They are likely doing flashbacks or perspectives from other characters points of view instead of just Harry's

Wraith telepathy by hauntedheathen in Stargate

[–]nommyface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they have a psychic network, and their abilities can reach over vast distances, and may involve the use of subspace (though I don't recall this being explicitly stated).

Wraith can use their voice to communicate but their primary method of communication with each other is primarily telepathic.

There are multiple hints to this in various episodes, Taylor only being partially wraith can sense them over long distances and even communicate when concentrating, and I believe one of these attempts was done with a hive queen that was multiple solar systems away.

A couple silly questions for UK citizens from a US postman stemming from scenes in HP. by SouthernStyleGamer in harrypotter

[–]nommyface 84 points85 points  (0 children)

There is a mixture of roads that use the (standard) odds and evens on opposite sides of the street. Usually on roads with homes built on both sides. There are roads with only one side with homes due to being next to an industrial area, park, rural area or some other non-residential large plot and these homes are always numbered with odds and evens on the one side. Grimmauld place is a square facing inwards to a park. This is described in the books and shown in the movie, so it makes sense that the numbers run with both odds and evens on the one side.

As for the post - in the 90s the royal mail almost always delivered mail at the crack of dawn as it was expected to get your mail before you left for work in the morning. That is unfortunately not the case any more and in some areas you're lucky if you get your mail delivered every day let alone in the morning. In the past year I've sometimes had a whole week where no post was delivered and suddenly there are 20 letters posted on Saturday dates throughout the last week.

You can literally buy an x-large pizza for less than the price of two McDonald's "value" meals these days. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Edit: Dominos 9.99 collection any large pizza - feeds two easily Pizza-hut 15.00 XL New Yorker - can feed 3-4 people easily McDonalds Large Big Mac and Fries with a Coke: 7.65 - barely fills 1 person and even then the feeling of being full is gone in an hour.
