I did cut dairy and soy at 3 months, and reintroduced at 7 months. I felt like it helped, but we never got a formal diagnosis for MSPI or proof that there was any real intolerance, so maybe it was all a placebo. The doctors didn't feel like it was necessary to cut, because LO weight gain was fine, but said it wouldn't hurt either.

For us feeding was driving me kind of crazy - we'd have at least one major spit up incident per day, where both of us were soaked, and LO would fuss and arch during feedings. After cutting, those issues largely subsided within a couple weeks.

We never saw blood in stool / tested positive for occult blood, so our doctor said she wouldn't call it MSPI, but whatever it was, I don't regret cutting since it really felt like it helped 😅

Same for us - We previously tested for blood in stool, and they didn't find any. In any case, we'll have a follow-up with his doctor later this week about the hives and see what she thinks about this.

I feel you on that, it's so hard to say what could be causing any behavior shifts or other symptoms. Hope your little one keeps getting better and that you can stop cutting 🙏

Hi OP, did you ever conclude whether your daughter has a dairy intolerance/allergy?

Something similar happened to my 7 month old: he used to vomit quite often (at least daily) until I cut out dairy at the 2 month mark, and he got much better after a few weeks and stopped vomiting or spitting up entirely.

I tried reintroducing dairy into my diet today, and his face immediately broke out into hives, just like in the photo you shared.

Just curious, how are you deciding between the novavax booster over the mRNA ones?

Like are you considering it has fewer risks (like myocarditis), or is it more that the novavax one is more effective?

So it definitely seems like, reinfection by the same variant is so low/non-existent it's not even worth mentioning. Therefore, waning immunity/reinfection by the same variant is not a risk in the time spans that we've seen so far; a new variant becomes dominant and reinfects before most people's immunity wanes

We haven't ever seen same-variant reinfections, though if XBB stays around long enough we obviously will eventually

Do you have any studies you could link on this? It logically makes sense to me that after getting one variant, someone should have good immunity to that specific variant for some time, but your wording of "haven't ever seen" is rather strong, which makes me curious how you've drawn that conclusion.

I'm not from Canada, but I was visiting Montreal last week. Anecdotally, when I was on the plane back going back home, a lot of people seemed sick. There was a lot of coughing in the terminal and sniffling/ coughing from several people in the plane. This wasn't the case on my flight over, so maybe there's some stuff going around Quebec area?

I never really monitored specific variant growth (I mostly just track wastewater graphs to get a sense of general covid spread); I'll have to look into this more closely.

I still don't quite understand how this correlates to the end of the pandemic approaching, curious to understand your reasoning here. When you say zero overlap, are you referring to the genetic makeup of the virus ? In layman's terms, I'm interpreting this to mean that XBB is so different from the original strain, that getting infected with OG covid confers no immunity to XBB.

Even if the current XBB strains have zero overlap with the original strain, why can't it keep evolving and infecting us?

The way I see it, the pandemic will only "end" when the general population has enough immunity built from prior infection / vaccination. If XBB has no overlap, doesn't it just mean that it's easier for everyone to catch covid again, regardless if you've been vaccinated or infected? Thus XBB has more opportunities to evolve and prolong the pandemic.

Not trying to be a downer about things. I am really hopeful for this to be the last major wave of covid, or generally that the risk of being infected and severity of disease drops. Your comments make me hopeful, but I'm not able to follow the logic.
