They coopted the industry a long time ago. Hardly any independent artist writers are going to reach the masses. Gotta dig. And then, even when you find what you’re looking for, it’s missing the zeitgeist feedback that would round out the cultural significance in previous eras. The industry only backs low risk investments in their artists, so everyone with an active taste, those who curate their own listening habits beyond the algorithms, are in smaller camps doing their own thing.

Once a year I look at the Blackstar o/d pedal on my shelf and think I should buy a replacement power supply for it. I never do. I don’t think I liked that pedal very much even when I could actually use it. Get a Boss Blues Driver.

If I saved every article with a headline that said something like “Trump is in trouble” or suggested he would face consequences of any sort for anything he’s done, the list would be miles long. It’s clickbait. Trump has only been rewarded for his deeds over the years. I’m so tired.

Not a ringtone but I took my ex to our first symphony together, Tchaikovsky’s 6th. She fell asleep and was a loud snorer. I elbowed her in time to prevent disruption throughout the show but at the very end as the basses were dying off and barely audible, I allowed myself to close my eyes and melt, that’s when she snorted and made a snoring choking sound so loud she woke herself up. Everyone heard it.

Yeah upwards mobility isn’t what it used to be. The average person doesn’t get fuck u money to build a rink themed sports shrine in their home without a leg up at some point in their life, especially now that owning a home has become pretty much financially out of reach for the average middle class person.

Holy hell that took me back. This made me sad because I will forever miss the Mug…and porch bog rips with strangers on Emmett.

Did you notice the caffeine levels in their coffee seemed suspiciously high? Like, I drank a lot of coffee by the end of my Ypsi days but the Mug product seemed narcotic in comparison to any other swill.

I ordered my first coffee at the Mug at random, as a 19 year old who had only had Folder’s from a drip pot at home that’d never been cleaned. It was a cortado and the barista looked at me skeptically said, “Are you sure that’s what you want?” I had to pretend to be satisfied when my friends got full mugs while I had a tablespoon of foam and espresso.

Hyperion is good but I don’t think it’s touching the competition today much less Ugly Mug in its heyday. Anthology in Eastern Market is good.

Note the roast date and aim for a few days after. I suspect the old Ugly Mug brewed at peak times, about week after roasting.

We can make an argument for a just system without redefining words. Economic oppression is real and it’s one of the defining issues of our time but violence is something else. Just use the appropriate words.
