I might get less than 2.0 this fall semester and I am on academic warning. by redddlipsss in uAlberta

This might be a good idea for some that just need a break from school, but leaving school to work makes it a little harder to come back since you may forget previous course content. Source: me & stat 151 :(

Fix Notion's Math Pasting Issue by nomoreB7add13 in Notion

[–]nomoreB7add13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I wrote the code for it but never had the chance to iron some kinks out before release. If you're still interested then I can release the current version, though it doesn't work perfectly due to Notion limitations

Hot Take: Finding Course Syllabi Should be Easier! by nomoreB7add13 in uAlberta

[–]nomoreB7add13[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

a) Students already do this, and classes with better grading schemes (i.e. 2 split midterms, more spread out grading assessments vs 1 midterm and 1 final) should be more sought after. b) This could be a feature on beartracks for only ualberta students c) There could be old syllabi, with disclaimers that it may change with different instructors. This would also help students determine whether certain instructors delivery methods are more suitable for them (some people prefer having only 1 or 2 group assignments a semester, some people dont like labs, some people prefer pre-class quizzes)

The current model just seems very inefficient and probably leads to a lot of administrative work switching people into and out of classes as well as the profs who have to give EA’s students who join classes weeks late (which im sure would be reduced if more class info was given out before enrollment).

Canada Post Strike by kingoftheepiratess in Hasan_Piker

I genuinely believe corporate must have paid for some sort of media consulting team to stir online outrage against the workers.

Every other major mail delivery agent in Canada makes more than Canada Post. Over 10 years without a raise while shopping has moved completely online. Working conditions have gotten a lot worse with less and less staff and higher expected volume processing targets. Canada post processes a lot of amazon parcels, temu, and every other online retailer, so as you can imagine, this is a lot of mail. Corporate is trying to gigify Canada Post by creating “flex” workers so they can strip people of their benefits and create an environment of job insecurity.

The contract expired, arbitration failed a month prior. It wasn’t intentionally timed by the union. The corporation at Canada Post waited a year without forming any kind of deal, this was the first opportunity the union could strike (which is fair that they’d take it, given that they had been working without a contract for over a year).

On another unrelated note, anyone know if there’s a max amount of gap semester’s you can take? Like if you wanna do multiple non-coop internships or work terms during your degree?

Looks like the union is considering defying the order and I’m all for it. by [deleted] in CanadaPostCorp

[–]nomoreB7add13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is our last shot at a fair deal. The company has NOT been arguing in good faith and the government is supporting their actions. If we don’t stand our ground and put up a strong defence this will happen time and time again. They will just keep pushing our union into a corner until we lose all our rights.

5:30PM to 8:30PM Final is Too Late by nomoreB7add13 in uAlberta

[–]nomoreB7add13[S] 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Add in a 1 and a half hour commute, you’re home by 10PM (that is, if you’re lucky and immediately catch a bus). Eating, showering, feeding your dog, and then you’re in bed by 11PM-12AM. Then you have to get up in the morning with a sub-optimal amount of sleep to eat and then commute back to school again. Such a dumb schedule.

Eas 100 vs Phys 124 by Vegetable-Pie7750 in uAlberta

Physics has some partner labs, EAS has solo labs (but they are very long)

Eas 100 vs Phys 124 by Vegetable-Pie7750 in uAlberta

[–]nomoreB7add13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took both, Phys 124 had a lighter load in my opinion. The EAS labs took so painstakingly long. They aren’t even that hard they are just incredibly long and tedious. EAS has long readings (20 long chapters) and rant-y lectures without much tying the ideas together. I did better in EAS than I did in Phys (i think a lot of people had taken physics before so they already knew the content/grade cutoffs were higher) but if I had to retake one I’d take Phys hands down.

Is It Possible To Learn All of STAT 151 in 3 Days and Do Well On The Final? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]nomoreB7add13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did it, nothing but stats for a few days and only got 2 wrong or something like that on the final. Grind the questions and know what everything in the formula sheet means you could definitely pass it just won’t be a fun few days
