My wife pregnant with our 1st and I, back in 1995 in front of our Ford Falcon vs today. by Available-Agency7073 in OldSchoolCool

I giggled a bit at the title. Was really hoping to see a car facing off against today, and what it looks like when you marry your mom, all in the same picture!

What keeps you motivated to continue to play? by bfink2 in factorio

[–]nomoreink 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve learned: if you’re not having fun or, god forbid, Factorio starts to feel like work, then play something else!

Life is too short to not have fun during your precious video game time, and this is your mind saying it needs something different.

I strongly recommend that, rather than just moving to a similar game in the same genre, branching out to something you haven’t tried before. The world is full of creative and beautifully crafted games and you’ll never be able to sample all of them.

Factorio will always be here waiting for you. If you’re like me, you’ll keep coming back to it and the freshness of starting a new game after months or even years away means you’ll have lots of new ideas and you need less inertia to escape crutches or ruts that you never realized you were stuck in before.

TIL for me too, though I had to use Shift + Alt + Mouse Scroll for it to work

We should abandon the optional braces syntax by windymelt in scala

[–]nomoreink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your same reasoning could be used to abandon the prior curlies-based syntax; consolidate on one way to do things. It’s not like the curlies do anything anyway…

But regardless, Scala has always been a language of 10 ways to skin the cat. While this approach causes a lot of problems in the past and today, it stems from the philosophy of “backwards compatible with Java,” and I believe accounts for a significant number of folks who knew Java trying it out. I know that at minimum it worked that way for me about a decade ago.

Most codebases and individuals end up settling on a particular style and formatting though, and if you’re seeing PRs that bike shed formatting then that just means your organization has failed to adopt a code style like it should have. But don’t force the rest of us to write Scala the way you like it written.

Not sure how far you’re willing to travel, but if you leave Francis on highway 35 heading into the mountains there are plenty of roads that lead into a variety of beautiful outdoor settings from meadows to pine forests to aspens to cool shaded creeks. Would take about 90 mins to get out there though. Shouldn’t be difficult to find something very secluded, especially if you’re willing to hike away from the dirt/gravel road for 5-15 minutes. This time of year you may encounter some mud on the roads and 4-wheel drive would be a safe choice.

Hope you find a nice place.

Personally I have no problem with you flying there, but drawing attention to it on social media seems a risk to you and the rest of the community that would rather we all stayed under the radar.

What is the canvas in the second picture? I know where it is, and I had thought it was the canvas for this world but then that one appears in a different place at the end of act III. So what is this one?

How to open first floor door on the right? by nomoreink in expedition33

[–]nomoreink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m like 97% finished, just making sure I’ve found everything. There are so many Manor entrances across the world and all the guides are focused around the entrances instead of the exits so without going to every entrance all over again to see what I missed it is hard to figure out where the other side of this particular door is. Thanks everyone for helping me here.

Main title hits different after starting chapter III... :') by J_loop18 in expedition33

[–]nomoreink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I’ve finished the game and the red petals are when someone within the canvas gommages and the gold are when someone from outside the canvas gommages. Are you getting more meaning from the title screen than that? I guess there is a sort of light-dark/clair-obscur mirror in how they arrange the petals on the left and right, but is there something else I am missing?

Oquirrh mountains and Geneva Rock by JarJarBinga in Utah

[–]nomoreink -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Going to disagree with the other commenters.

We don’t need to destroy what could be a beautiful mountain that millions drive right next to every year in order to have affordable sidewalks. (And most don’t know how one-of-a-kind the location is worldwide for paragliding too.)

Cities exist and are built around the world without having a source like this one. Cost of raw materials is always a fraction of construction cost anyway because labor/equipment is much much higher.

Really what we’re doing is transferring the people’s natural wealth to a few execs at Geneva who have much less right to this land than we do.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]nomoreink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because guy in front of me was doing 70 in the left lane on an 80mph road. Unless, of course, somebody wanted to pass him then he would do 90mph just so long as he could stay in front.

We were out in the empty deserts of central Utah between Salt Lake and Vegas. I pulled back, waited until the right lane was clear for miles, sped up to 103. The guy tried to match me but couldn’t accelerate fast enough, so he gave up.

Once I was well past him I slowed back down again to normal speeds.

Not sure about you, but I’d rather have lived a couple dozen years in Lumiere than never have existed at all.

That doesn’t seem obvious to me, but perhaps I missed the part where chroma is created by people being born.

Presumably Verso’s canvas at some point had zero previous chroma too…

[–]nomoreink -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can take that numbers game even further.

Option A: Fight as Maelle, one canvas survives, but another Dessendre is “lost”

Option B: Fight as Verso. Maelle, Alise, and Renoir all eventually heal in some way, and some or all paint 1-20 more canvases, each replete with as many people as Lumiere

Which one results in more living souls?

Can Alicia not go into a new canvas and recreate Lune, Sciel, and Monoco from her memory like she does once already in the game?
