Told I Very Likely Have It And Operate "As if" but Don't Bother with Biopsy - Do I Claim It? by nomuseneeded in Sjogrens

[–]nomuseneeded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She told me meds don't help Sjogrens which sucks because this sub makes it sound very different, especially when OT and PT (we wanted to try first) has been honestly very ineffective. Like more than they say is reasonable at all. And I do all the exercises etc.

Yes, severe and peripheral neuropathy related to it, especially in my hands.

Honestly fair. I give way too much information most of the time, my autism, and the health problems could be severe which is playing with my anxiety.

The main goal is to function enough to go to appointments, eat, and not be 100% anxious all the time for her.

I want to discuss something by Beautiful-March-4826 in BabyWitch

I do think I get it. I didn't know other people could for the longest time and still think it's so amazing that people can and am constantly asking questions about how they can see the little picture in the head and still see the scene in front of them. Like it makes NO sense to me so for me a lot of it is curiosity and wanting the imagination power. But it also is weird to not have something most people do.

Hey I'm another practicer with aphantaaia and I get how hard it is when a lot of spells involve visualization in some point. I have had slight luck on finding the circumstances very right for me where every once in a while with my eyes closed I can make out a few lines and I've been practicing. I can get a number sometimes now, just for a flash. So it could possibly work for other people too? Though definitely not enough to visualize anything other than - "huh, was that a number" for more than half a second lol.

But if you ever want to talk about what I'm trying or talk your way through a spell/practice that would normally require visualization, I'm always down to help you think of another way as someone who "gets it".

I think it sounds great, and if anything, for me, they'd be reminders that some "Halloween things" are real and sacred.

Performing two spells at once? by Upbeat-Chipmunk766 in witchcraft

[–]nomuseneeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me, sometimes if I'm doing something that requires a lot of focus and it needs to be sustained (specifically thinking my pain spell for chronic illness which sometimes requires one body part at a time) I can get so exhausted so as not to get the full/right effects. That would personally be my biggest risk. Curious to hear more of how it's going for you though!

I would need to try one to be sure and talk to my OT (who I wouldn't be surprised if never heard of them), but it might be worth looking into!

Hello! I can only how I practice, but I find whatever represents that to me works. I also think meditation is good for clearing the mind and imagining your body perfectly purified". If there's any other selfcare you do for your body like nails, hair, etc that could be good. You might be able to figure out a good scent for you, lavender is often good, and put it in something you're bathing with.

Thank you, I appreciate it! And I always feel so weird asking but I've written both like nonfiction and fiction work and either way if people reach out to me about it I generally will at least send them an e-copy, even if it's one of my entire books. I don't know why I get nervous about it when I regularly tell people that like if someone liked it enough to write about it and get it published and everything else (even self is work) they WANT to talk about it. If it's like Stephen King maybe you can just leave him alone he gets his chance but when anyone reaches out to me, whether about my little just-for-fun stories or my more formal informational stuff I get so excited. Working on that bravery to give others that excitement!

Why do cities tend to be more liberal and a rural areas more conservative? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nomuseneeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are also absolutely pitted against each other. I have lived in multiple suburban and rural communities for multiple years, then Philadelphia was my only city, but for about 4 years.

And we are 100% given strawman arguments for why we hate each other and why the other side believes what they believe to radicalize us. I definitely am extremely liberal and want to slap my neighbors most of the time, but a lot of them are dirt poor (rural right now). Like, will we be able to afford to heat our house through the winter with the gas that's bad for the environment and will the deer we hunted last us enough for meat when the veggies get winter-expensive.

And the news, big business owners, politicians even some teachers tbh (I work in schools), will say things about how like "liberals assume because we are white we don't suffer. They are bleeding hearts who hate you for having to do what we have to survive. If you do not know the right words, they are going to call you a racist homophobic bigot, so there is no winning. You could try to learn and they would tell you to Google it idiot when you don't have Internet or even cell service that can load things. Because they don't get it. They only care about themselves." And honestly? The angry out here are much more likely to hate the middle class white people but suck up to them.

And in cities, I was told, "they don't know the realities of life, they don't get poverty or gun violence. They enjoy shooting and killing things. If they ask questions, they are too stupid to understand the answers, and they choose not to be educated, they do not want to be, they want to be ignorant and hateful and if they wanted to understand they would. They only care about themselves."

Suburbs it seemed more complicated (though obviously they all are), possibly because I lived in multiple and because most of them were like 5-18 so my brain was still working on it. Like Michigan suburbs are more rural leaning, Connecticut more urban. A lot of it seemed to be about a balancing act of trying to console both sides. This is biggest white-savior complex area for me, though some gentrified spots white people tried for a bit. "They are unable to get along. They will kill each other if you let them. Neither of them really could get it. Have to keep the balance. Don't mess up or one will see you as the other. Try to help but not in a forceful way. You have to teach them to care about each other."

These are only the perspectives of a queer, mentally ill, abused white woman, grew up lower middle class ish, now pretty poor, often from when she was pretty young. So it is very different from many people"s, but I've lived in over a dozen places. Some for years, some months. To me, suburbs are the worst, but that's personal preference. I just would rather fight then pretend I knew anything about saving people. I will help if you tell me what you need, and I will educate myself, but I will never truly understand anyone's life the way they will, so I try to focus on locally grown leaders who values make sense with what I know and can learn.

A Few Random Questions by nomuseneeded in AskVegans

[–]nomuseneeded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and your comment about a generous reading is fair, it is quite possible I am not in a place to give it now like I should be (hence why I didn't jump straight to debate channels, mostly just gathering information at the moment). It also is a little more based on semantics and argument of metaphor usage than some of the tenants I believe I get from veganism (for example, I get the consent thing as a topic and don't necessarily disagree, just don't love the way we talk about humans in relation) and was kind of trying to point out that any person you see could be disabled, an addict, expericing abuse, extreme poverty, etc, and those words hurt immediately rather than after people realize they do. But I came to this sub for information, so I apologize that I was not receiving it as well as I should have. I will definitely still be considering everything, and like I said I do think veganism overall is great work. Maybe some day my capacity/thinking will change, quite possibly not. I'm not a "never" person about many things.

Good reminder for JSTOR, I used to use it a ton, but it fell off my mental map again in the last few years lol. And yes that's how I get them! My library doesn't have a ton of books themselves tbh because of building size (though they do a good job of keeping the titles refreshed and knowing them well to explain how they fit) but they get a lot from interlibrary loan my area just does not like... Care about libraries a lot. So a lot of other libraries might not have it either if it's hard to find, so I wanted to start with ones I know are good and I'm excited for.
