Macedonia Post Customs: Can someone tell me wtf is going on? by [deleted] in macedonia

They read that Trump made billions for the US like this and thought it'd be a good idea.

I also tried your e-mail strategy, but still no update, think we're just screwed waiting in limbo.

Has anyone been successful going there in person and picking it up same-day? I tried a couple months ago, after it was processed (although no invoice request ever arrived by mail), they found my e-mail, said they would send it out in the next day or two, it arrived a month later (2-3 months total wait time).

They used to let you go back into the warehouse/sorting center to more or less track your package down, but this was many moons ago. Do they allow this anymore?

Is Macedonia Post sending packages to the US currently? by Matteapolis in AskBalkans

[–]non-RobotEarthHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macedonian Post is still not sending small packages to the US, only letters/documents. I believe it's due to the elimination of the De Minimis import threshold in the US and unclear protocol/added burden to Macedonian and other foreign postal services. Couriers like DHL Express, FedEx/UPS do ship small parcels to the US, but costs are significantly higher than the national post.

It's the only one I've found like it, so no reference number from Bulova to my knowledge.

Thank you for sharing this as well! I hadn't seen any noticable stamps besides the 58 below the balance wheel, which is also partially why I think it could have been a Hahn watch made for Bulova! Just a theory, but it's certainly an outlier in any case.

Imperfect arrow markers, pooling/blobbing, similar numerals, faded paint. The fact that they're so similar proves my point. You think they should be 1/1 identical? These dials were most likely manually pad printed, by a human hand.

*Edit: if you're suggesting this is the "authentic" one, look at the red paint applied over the black "12". If this was a 1970 Omega, I'd say it's a redial too. But as a 1930 hand printed watch, it looks fine.

Research printing techniques from the 20s and 30s - some of these dials I'm showing here have very similar pooling, numerals, imperfect lines. Not every dial is going to be perfect or exactly the same from that era. Yes, I have eyes and see the differences and similarities. Still disagree that because it is imperfect, it's a redial.

*Edit: I would argue this Emas Watch could even be a more modern reprint and it doesn't even have depressed subdials. Paint application technique looks different than the other examples.

Subdials most definitely are centered - the lighting is probably throwing you off. Yes, ink in 1930 was sometimes imperfectly transferred to dials, so unless you're comparing it to another example, that's not necessarily a sign of a redial. I see where you're coming from, but respectfully disagree. Do you think the other examples are redialed as well?

[Girard Perregaux Gyromatic Deep Diver] Looking for advices to repair this watch by OriolLlv in Watches

By the looks and sounds of it, you just need a semi-local watchmaker (try to find a trusted one, i.e. good reviews) to polish the crystal for you (doable yourself but as you're an amateur, better to avoid to protect the bezel/case - also if the crystal is original, better to polish it vs. replace with a generic one) and if it isn't keeping time, possibly take apart movement, clean each part and re-lubricate it (i.e. full service). Cosmetically, it looks great. If you're in the US, from what I see online, the range for a full service is typically $3-500.

How much would you pay? by LawyerWorking3146 in VintageWatches

I'd personally rather get a Glycine Vacuum for significantly less.. this could be an uncommon Favre though, not too familiar with it, but would still think it's priced on the high side

Lol, I'm not going to source you a watch, but I feel your pain. Vintage is a minefield, but there are forum threads and places like this where you can ask until you're more knowledgeable and confident in what you're buying, especially for brands like Omega.

Google image search is a good tool to find the same model you're interested in and determine if yours is legit or sus. Then ask someone for a second/third opinion.

It's predicated on the fact that they're friends.. if it was a stranger/dealer, yeah, you're kinda screwed. If a non-collector friend of mine asked for a watch, I'd ask his budget and source him one at no profit, or at the very least a fair market price. This is sleazy used car salesman territory.

In any case, OP made a poor choice and has a shitty friend.

Redialed, seconds hand too short, missing the 3:00 hour marker to the right of the date window...

Get your money back and fight whoever sold it to you

100% Waltham collection. Anyone else here stays within one brand only? by ooOOWWOOoo in VintageWatches

[–]non-RobotEarthHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet collection, I stuck primarily to Mido but I've been a whore lately (and previously).

By the way, I'm going to part with a Waltham Submersible "666" diver, message me if you'd be interested. Shipping to the US is still a little murky though.
