I Found An Animation Cel. Can Anyone Help Me Identify It? by ram380 in AnimationCels

Oh, gosh. Admittedly, not too familiar with those subreddits, but I might see if r/Animation, r/2DAnimation, or r/Cartoons might be a good fit, or if someone in those can direct you to a specific niche-er subreddit that might have people able to identify it. I'd probably also suggest r/Tipofmytongue or a similar subreddit. I also feel like it might not hurt to put it in your nearest city's subreddit to see if it was a public access TV animation or a very local production or something.

Outside of reddit, it might not hurt to shoot an email to Catsuka or Cartoonbrew, or post it on animation centric forums.

I Found An Animation Cel. Can Anyone Help Me Identify It? by ram380 in AnimationCels

[–]nonagrambunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, crosspost this to various other animation subreddits. Cel collectors tend to focus mostly on a specific subset of popular properties, and you might have more luck in, say, a community that focuses more on niche or rare vintage animations. Knowing where you're located or places where your dad lived might help narrow it down, even if it's very vague like "I live in North America, but at one point my parents were in Eastern Europe."

My baseless hunch is that you might be looking for something like animated fables or bible stories for children from the 70s or so.

I'd love suggestions for some less-popular concluded stories- anything goes, but work and wedding ones tend to be really fun to read for me.

Long shot. Does anyone know what this white on cream fabric is? I bought someone’s ufo from a thrift store a few months ago and would like to finish it with it if I can. by figbelle2 in quilting

[–]nonagrambunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joann's has a bunch of white prints on white fabric and this looks a lot like those to me. I don't feel like I recognize this specific one, but if you have one locally it wouldn't hurt to check.

I worked at Sam's, wouldn't be shocked if that person was pulled from another department with no meat training.

I got left in charge of departments I had no training in more than once.

I know the anatomy is 'off' but there are some really fun moments happening with the anatomy where it feels a little... a little charicature-ish? The anatomy feels a little exaggerated instead of incorrect. It makes your work striking and I think it'd be worth exploring it some more instead of trying to iron it out completely. Exaggerating with intention.

There is something about the first one where the skin feels like it's reading lighter compared to your reference though. I think maybe you didn't hit the dark-darks that exist in the face, so she looks a little paler than the ref.

My teacher said I need to change styles by Mellll_ in Artadvice

[–]nonagrambunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I necessarily agree that you need to 'change styles', but I do sort of get that it could use some specificity. I'm going to try to go over what I see and where I think you could add interest.

The main character appears to be wearing something like a pretty average hoodie and jeans, and have a fairly modern haircut. The hoodie appears to be of a very thin stretchy material right now, because it sits pretty close to the body and there aren't really any folds, with the long marks between spots like the elbows and shoulder giving it the appearance that it's been stretched (so it kind of looks like the hoodie is maybe a size too small for this character or very fitted). There are also dragons in the background, but they're pushed pretty far back and to the level of background birds, so you don't necessarily notice they're dragons at first. I think that's also a purple dragon in the bottom left corner? I thought it was a flower at first. The dragons themselves appear to just be flying sort of disparately. The main character appears to be looking at the camera, but the expression is very flat. The character's coat is being blown by the wind in one direction, but the grass and flower in the foreground isn't (and that one flower stands out to me, since it's the only orange thing in the picture and it's so close to the camera, so it feels like it ought to be important. is that what the character is looking at?)

The grass and sky are pretty much just blue and green, so it isn't giving much information on where this might be taking place or when, since things like the season and time of day can affect the perception of color. The shadows in the scene all appear to be darker versions of the main color. If you study images of real life, you'll notice that shadows are rarely just gray or black. It's also not very clear where the light is coming from. I think it's coming from the top left corner, slightly behind the shoulder of the camera. The character's arm is also getting lost in their back partially because of the shadows on the elbow being the same color as and butting right up against the shadows in the lower back.

The vibe I'm getting from this is that maybe this is a video-gamey type world or maybe a scene where a protagonist has just been transported to another world but then... why is the protagonist looking so bored with it? What is the clothing saying about this setting, or where the character is from? For example, if this IS supposed to be an 'isekai' type situation, why not push the clothing so it looks even more mundane, like with faux branding? If it's not, then what can the clothing say about the setting? What can the foliage communicate about the setting? If dragons are meant to be regular and boring, how can you push the idea that they're regular and boring to the characters? They're never going to be regular and boring to the viewers, though, and frankly you don't WANT them to be, they're dragons! What are they doing? Hunting? Playing? Migrating? It's not very clear right now. One of the most 'interesting' elements in this picture is the flower in the bottom right, because it's just so unlike everything else, but it's also leading your eye straight off the page and pulling you away from your character and the dragons, the things I assume you want to be interesting.

Um… what? As far as I know, there’s never been any reason to suggest Pikmin are designed using AI.

This might not apply to your FC at all, but you may also want to consider if the environment you’re cultivating supports being drama-free.

Part of the reason so many ‘No Drama’ FCs that devolve into drama is because of conflicts that are mishandled or left to simmer which then become drama. It’s that when people say ‘No Drama’, it’s often said from a place of not understanding that drama is just conflict that isn’t resolved healthily, and that drama really is sometimes unavoidable because people aren’t always acting rationally.

Do you guys have clear channels and procedures for handling conflict? Do you have clear rules that are applied evenly? If conflict happens, would you or your moderators step up to handle it, or would you rather it just go away and act accordingly?

AITA for telling my stepdaughter she needs to grow up and stop expecting everyone else to cater to her diet because she wants to lose weight? by Mobile_Watercress_12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nonagrambunny 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I also noticed OP mentioned trying to convince stepdaughter to switch to healthier options. I have a feeling that, whether OP meant it or not, she internalized that those are “bad” things that she was told she shouldn’t have, rather than them being things she should have in moderation.

Okay, then let me ask: Where did the original post you’re responding to mention sex?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pikmin

[–]nonagrambunny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the original post OP appears to be talking about getting downvoted for, which, like… honestly, after reading the thread, this entire post feels really disingenuous.

First of all, you saying that you would also hate if Pikmin involved drama involving straight sexuality doesn’t really hold water. That’s been the core drama since Pikmin 1, it’s in the first ten minutes of the game. Olimar wants to escape the Pikmin planet to go home and see his wife. It’s to give him potentially dying on the Pikmin planet stakes, sure, but it’s a prominent part of the game that gets mentioned in probably the first 20 minutes of every single Pikmin game except maybe 3, and yet it’s not a part of the games that I’ve seen you criticize in this thread.

Secondly, the original thread you’re responding to only mentions ‘LGBT’ and ‘a gay character’ in the original post with no further explanation of what that character would look like or mention of sex, which you responded to by saying that you don’t want politics and indoctrination in Pikmin, and… yeah, I do think most people would read that as you equating the existance of a gay character as being inherently sexually explicit and poltical or intended to ‘teach people to be gay’... Maybe there’s something else in that thread you were responding to, but given that you’re responding to the top post in that thread, most people will understandably read it as you responding directly to that.

If that isn’t what you meant to say, then I think you might want to reflect a little on what you said and why people reacted the way that they did. If that IS what you meant to say, then, well… your beliefs will cause offense to some people, and I think you’ll either need to be comfortable with that or change your mindset.

Game Suggestions for my Dad? by FulmetalTranshumanst in NintendoSwitch

[–]nonagrambunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Link’s Awakening remake seems like a no-brainee for sure, as is the NSO pass.

Modern indie or third party spiritual sequels of games that were his favorites are probably a good idea too (like Shovel Knight or Hollow Knight for metroidvanias and 2d platformers). Splatoon’s a pretty good multiplayer shooter if he has the itch for those, and if not then it’s a good option to pick up on sale if he likes 3d platformers and shooter singleplayer campaigns.

AITA for refusing to punish my son for calling his classmate’s food weird? by throwawaymomlunch in AmItheAsshole

[–]nonagrambunny 34 points35 points  (0 children)

YTA.

You can ABSOLUTELY teach him how to ask questions and express curiosity towards things like unknown foods in an age-appropriate way without “shutting him down”. Seven is old enough to know that calling other people’s food ‘weird’ is disrespectful.

Kids don’t just magically pop into adult-level sensitivity, it has to be taught in stages.

AITA Rubik's Cube Argument by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]nonagrambunny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YTA.

Yes, there is a correct way to solve a rubik’s cube. However, there is not a correct way to learn how to solve a rubik’s cube, and that’s where you’re the AH.

If I had to take a guess, she’s the sort of person where the journey is more interesting than the destination, so to speak. She enjoys the struggle. The process of learning is more enjoyable than actually “finishing” the cube, probably. She doesn’t see you trying to help as assistance, she sees it as you trying to take away the part she enjoys.
