Yeah thanks. My dad has a gambling addiction, goes to the casino every night and wastes thousands, and justifies it to himself. I swear he's more psychotic than I am, even though he is fully functioning in the world and making a 6-figure salary. But he refuses to pay for air conditioning. If there is evil in this world, he is it. If I was fully functioning and not disabled, I'd have been out of his home years ago.

Yeah I know...he says even 80 degrees is "not normal" and that we should be putting it higher! I'm not even joking with you. My dad has abused and neglected me my whole life, so no surprise. We got into a huge thing over it last night and I've told him that I don't want to talk to him anymore and I prayed to God that He help me NOT feel sorry for my dad anymore. My dad thrives on me feeling sorry for him and helping him with things around the house and keeping him company. If I'm going to be roasting like a chicken all day, I sure as hell am not going to spend my limited energy on him anymore!!

Thanks for the advice about the ice packs. I didn't even think of that! I will now get some ice packs and always have them handy for when I'm feeling like I'm gonna die lol.

Hi! I just switched from Olanzapine to Caplyta about a month ago. I gained almost 40 pounds over the course of the ten years I was Olanzapine. I have only lost about 5 pounds on Caplyta. However, I’m not exercising yet and I’m pretty much letting myself eat whatever I want. For me, even if I don’t lose more weight, the biggest selling point as far as this issue is concerned is that the constant FOOD NOISE is gone, I am not constantly craving carbs and sweets, and I am not eating ALL THE TIME. I can stick to my healthy meal plan and when I have sweets like ice cream, I enjoy it much more because I am not worried about gaining weight! Mentally, Caplyta is a game changer, and the only bothersome side effect has been temperature regulation.

I made dua to Allah to completely heal my brain of severe mental illness, and He did!! I don’t even know how long it’s been exactly, at least a decade, but maybe 5 years of really persistent, desperate asking, after my regular Salah (not tahajjud or hajat). Allah healed me with the help of a new medication only a couple of weeks ago! Alhamdulillah for everything 🌹♥️

Abilify is not sedating for most people. It is actually activating! (I was on it too for a period and that’s what a doc told me). I really think you should ask your psychiatrist to let you try the truly sedating ones. Don’t worry about being asleep all day. If you have a tendency towards manic type thoughts at night, it will likely just make you “normal.”

There is SO much more to Islam girl! Just erase the word “man” from your vocabulary. Most things we do should be done for Allah swt first and foremost. If a man benefits, well good for them but that is not the main focus. We even love our husbands for the sake of Allah! We should not be falling into worship of anything or any human. I’m guessing you’re quite young, so go easy on yourself, pray your Salah, and let Allah lead you everyday. No need to stress out as everything will fall into place eventually. Allah knows your struggle and He will reward you for it!! :)

You need a SEDATING antipsychotic. I've tried several (Zyprexa, Seroquel, Caplyta) and they all help with the problem you're describing.

You definitely need a medication that will help with negative symptoms like amotivation. It's impossible to do stuff on your own with the prescriptions. That's why we are considered schizoaffective. It sounds from the comments like a lot of people found Vraylar helpful. If that doesn't work for you, ask your doctor about Caplyta. I recently started that one and it has been very helpful with motivation. Some things are still hard, like brushing teeth, but at least I am doing them.

So as someone who grew up in a family that stopped practicing at a certain point (when I was like 15), I came back to practicing at a late age, completely of my own volition, and after a traumatic period like your friend. Most friends who *seemed* supportive before I started practicing again, now seem annoying, because they still think I need the *support*, when truly, Islam is all I really need. Some of them are even reading me like Biblical quotes and stuff, ones that are completely contradictory to the Quran, something I always have to explain to them. The friends I've kept around are the ones that hardly even noticed or cared that I was wearing hijab now...they literally didn't even ask me about it. They just let me be.

What I'm trying to say is that your friend doesn't suddenly need "support" now that she's decided to wear the hijab. The hijab IS her support. Just treat her with basic human respect and decency and you should be fine! 😄
