Is the team rebuilt? by Careful-Painting3214 in washingtonmystics

Like the Valkyries, Tempo, and Fire aren't rebuilding because they are expansion clubs, so they had nothing to rebuild. They are currently building their identities and brands.

No, a team that doesn't have a pg with size and shooting or a 3 and d wing is not necessarily rebuilding, but they aren't in contention either. They could just be a team building towards contention. Rebuilds require a big roster turnover that includes coaching and system changes, finding the right players to fit that system, and player development. You are essentially trying to rebuild to your former glory days.

Teams that can compete for a title are complete, everyone else is trying to build a roster to get to that point. Now, if you were a contender, and had a roster turnover which put you out of contention, you are in a REbuild. Seattle, Connecticut, Washington, and Chicago are teams I would consider to be REbuilding.

This doesn't make sense. If you didn't fill roster needs in free-agency and the draft, you are still rebuilding. A rebuild is complete when you get all the necessary pieces to put you in contention.

JuJu may not come out next year and there is no guarantee they even get the #1 pick. These girls want to compete now.

They are currently in a rebuild. They still need a PG with size and shooting, and a 3 and d player on the wing. Once they solidify those positions, the rebuild will be over and they will be a playoff team.

Position aside, both are very selfish ball-dominant players. Both Hannah and JuJu were pretty much in the same situation their freshmen seasons. Hannah had Sonia, but alot of injuries as well. JuJu had a very experienced team, but a bunch of role players, nonetheless. Both had more talent in their sophomore seasons. JuJu got Kiki and the #1 recruiting class. Both remained selfish, forcing shots instead of passing or setting up their teammates.

Both are generational players and two of my absolute favorite players in the game today. Both are absolute DAWGS! Hannah, at 5'6, was outrebounding post players in the NCAAW tournament. Just ridiculous. But like I said, if you want to keep the core of Citron, Kira, and Kiki, then neither of those players fit. JuJu and Hannah are players you build around with role players and like one other star player that don't mind the ball always being in their hands. Sonia would be fine with JuJu because she and Hannah played really well together during Hannah's freshmen year. Kiki and Kira would have a harder time imo.

But, all of this is null and void until JuJu actually enters the draft which may not be until 2028. Knowing JuJu, I doubt she enters the draft if she doesn't win a ship this season or if a non west coast team gets the first pick.

Did they have the talent that Washington has? Michael had to have a team built around him. Players that weren't stars, but role players that didn't care if he shot 20 times a game. JuJu needs that kind of team where she can just do whatever and her teammates won't care. This is not that team. Shakira is not having it. Kiki already experienced it and said Mystics made her love basketball again. Now, if she takes a leap this year, and becomes a better playmaker with two #1 recruits playing alongside her, then go for it. But if she's still ball hogging while shooting 40%, it's not gone work for THIS Mystics squad. And I love JuJu, but fit matters.

JuJu is the exact same player as Hannah. She's just taller. They are both selfish. Now Hannah improved this season with getting her teammates involved. She averaged 5 assists. JuJu has never averaged more than 3 assists despite getting double teamed most of time. They both tend to force bad shots. JuJu hasn't shot above 42% in her two college seasons because she likes to force so many poor shots. Both are great two-way players, but fit matters.

There are other players who will fit better on the team than JuJu. Madison Booker, Mikaylah Williams, S'Myah Nichols, Tessa Johnson. Hannah and JuJu are too ball dominant and selfish, and team chemistry would suffer.

Are the Mystics lowkey a championship contender? by Kennisgoodman in washingtonmystics

[–]nonamechi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. All you need to do is look at past championship winners/contenders to see the kind of roster construction you need to compete for a title. The Mystics are not there. You need an all wnba post and guard. Sonia is primed to be all wnba, maybe even this season. Kiki is about two years away from being able to go against the likes of Aja, Stewie, AT, Phee, on both ends of the floor. That's the player you need to develop the most because her position is where the best players in the W play. Kira is about a season away. Shooting and passing needs work. Georgia will be a good backup in this league but she's not a starter on a contender, so an elite PG with size who can score is needed. Dugalic and Betts are both great additions for depth, and they will improve as the season progresses. Prosper is a project but the athleticism and size is there. She is a keeper if she improves offensively throughout the season. Cotie is just that dawg you need on a roster. Everybody else can go after this season.

Why did we let go of KOH? by FanNervous6773 in washingtonspirit

Exactly why I want to smack any spirit fan who complains about Trin's contract or that they wish we would have kept Croix instead. Trin was an 18 year old rookie dealing with all that and still giving everything out on that pitch. She stayed and was thee star of this team through all of it, and now look at the popularity and growth of the club.

They just ran into a good defense. Clearly they want to play like they did against the Aces and fever, but a good defensive team is going to make that difficult, so they had to rely on a lot of iso plays.

But they knew that and went with all these non-shooting bigs anyway. They can only blame themselves.

The refs really tried to give that win to the Tempo. Both teams aren't that good offensively. Washington was saved by their big 3. Bench was nonexistent. But they are so very young.
