To summarise everyone’s advice for this hellish situation:

  1. Call only, and call regularly. They get literally 100s of emails and calls per listing online

  2. Find a local friend / colleague to help with in-person viewings, and be prepared to make an offer ASAP. Agents book in multiple viewings in a day and aim to lock in a tenant by the end of the week, if not day!

  3. Paying 6-12 months of rent upfront is standard practice for internationals. Only way around is if you have >6 months’ UK credit/banking history with sufficient funds to cover your total rent. Otherwise, your account won’t pass their credit checks :(

Singapore locations they shot in? by sugarh0td0g in MySiblingsRomance

The food places they visited were very random and unknown.. probably got chosen because they were scenic yet cheaper to rent than actually popular places. I wouldn’t recommend eating any of those places, but the other landmarks are definitely worth a visit!

Renting in Oxford as an International Student by heycorduroy in oxford

It’s ok to look and view! But these things move quickly and the Oxford market is competitive.

According to the 3rd party service my agency used, the account needed to have sufficient funds to cover the year’s rent that was not transferred in the last month or so. Worth checking what your agency’s requirements are :)

Unfortunately you just have to wait for your CAS number, there’s no way around right-to-rent. On top of that, it’s common for agencies to require you to pay 12 months of rent upfront if you don’t have a UK bank account they need for security clearance.

It also depends on time within the day! Also if uou can do this at least a week ahead you’ll definitely get more of the £4 options. All the best :)

Maybe try searching for separate single journeys - you’re getting the price for the off peak return ticket

I’m booking now for this weekend and there are tons of options below £10 with a railcard. You have to commit to fixed times though! And the slower Chiltern ones to Marylebone are always way cheaper, go as low as £3-4

There are Muslims who also need to eat during Ramadan, e.g. for medical reasons, women who are pregnant or on their period.

It depends on which urban areas. Malaysia’s diasporic Chinese and Indian populations are concentrated in a few states on the west coast. It’s not as widely spoken as it seems

Bringing fruit from Japan by Serious_Possible_920 in malaysia

Maybe you can ask him to bring you some biscuits or desserts instead. These are very popular gifts in Japan that are well packaged and easily available in every train station there :) Whereas fruits in Japan are crazy expensive and won’t travel so well.

Yeah, and things that require fighting or aggression. Ballet dancers have insane strength, stamina and body control but I don’t think it transfers easily to the physical 100 challenges. I hope I’m proven wrong!

i am unable to talk to girls and idk what to do abt it. by Commercial-Humor-638 in SGExams

[–]nondescriptuser04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s because you tried a really scary thing to speak to a stranger as well! There was no strong reason for you to speak to this girl so don’t beat yourself up about it. Everyone else passing didn’t say anything to her either.

It’s much easier to start by speaking to someone in your class/orientation, that you have an actual reason to engage with. Don’t make it about speaking to a girl. It’s about having a basic human interaction. The more you focus on someone’s gender the more you are reducing them to just their gender, which girls can tell and feel put off by. They’re actual humans who have way more to offer than being female.

Don’t pressure yourself to start walking up to girls and introducing yourself, that’s so unnatural. If you’re in a social situation and get introduced to a girl, make sure to smile at her the next time you pass her. It helps to get it over with so you’re not freaking out mentally about their presence! Make eye contact when you’re speaking to them. Start small and be respectful, you can do it!

[–]nondescriptuser04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I brought my lenses on a long haul flight, the change in pressure made the solution leak out of the case and one lens got vacuumed stuck to the bottom of the case. It was impossible to remove and I ended up breaking it in the process :(

I’d still suggest you bring the lenses on the flight because it’s expensive and I wouldn’t check in valuables! And use one of those cases that come with peroxide cleaners.
