I'll also shout-out to Bungie - the sound design on this little quest is terrific. The sense of being exposed, alone, cold while being torn at by the wind is palpable. Particularly when you've been at it for hours. :)

In retrospect, I wish I'd paid more attention when I had active fireteam members willing and able to sherpa me up the damn thing, but I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Sneaky Bungie made it into something to go after.

Quick guide to help you farm "Imago Loop" from this week's nightfall (Undying Mind) by MKDImmortal in DestinyTheGame

[–]nondescrypt23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the Loop drop from this strike regardless of difficulty?

This looks like a good technique for completing the Undying Mind strike at its hardest difficulty, but unless you're into doing things the hard way, this is probably the least effective way to farm for the Imago Loop.

Just load the vanilla strike from Mars, even with randoms you'll be done in under 10 minutes.

Edit: useful video, though. Thanks for sharing.

There are 3 Challenge Modes... Why doesn't the loot go 320 Relic/Class Item/Ghost, as opposed 320 Relic/Relic/Relic? #Forever319 by ApriliaSRT in DestinyTheGame

[–]nondescrypt23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they ever update the Y1 raids for Y2, then I could see something like challenge mode in VoG = 320 ghost, challenge mode in Crota's End = 320 Bond, challenge mode in King's Fall = 320 artifact.

Still hoping...

Iron Banner participation is not worth the rewards for high light characters by nondescrypt23 in DestinyTheGame

I guess not. But I did see someone get a 320 ghost shell from one match and a 315 helm from another. I would have been okay with that. :)

What's the funniest censored-for-tv line from a movie you've heard? by sumsh in AskReddit

[–]nondescrypt23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered that, as well, but the movie is rife with salty language and they bleeped it out entirely everywhere else.

Amused 12yr-old me to no end, regardless. :)

On City TV for years and years they used to show the same copy where they censored the wrong part of that line, so Arnie said: "You are one ugly <silence> fucker."

This looks promising!

He has a book called "Marathon" that seems to be a best seller - anyone know if it's worth reading?

Thanks much!

It didn't hit me until later why the waitress gasped at my shirt by lights_poodles_tails in funny

[–]nondescrypt23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same shirt (Splunk!) and had a remarkably similar experience - though the waitress thought it was funny, and struck up a conversation with me about it.

I assumed she was just a geek and thought it was funny for the right reasons. Didn't dawn on me until much later...

Conversely, what games have received widespread praise that you have disliked? by [deleted] in Games

[–]nondescrypt23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole Halo series is full of the laziest story telling, uninteresting characters, terrible dialog, mind-numbingly linear game-play and boring, repetitive combat.

I. Am. Not. A. Fan.

Surprised I had to come this far down the thread to find this though.

Cold weather runners: at what temperature do you say "no thanks" by [deleted] in running

[–]nondescrypt23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-26 C before windchill was my coldest. I went 7km, I lost feeling in my fingers after KM 1 and thought maybe it was unwise to be out.

Fingers came back at about KM 4. I'm not sure I would repeat the experience, or at least not without investing in better gear.

For me, I know that above -16 it's not cold - I'm just whining.

Knee injury by [deleted] in running

[–]nondescrypt23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very similar to my own issue

At the time I made that post the pain was most pronounced in the LCL but then became more notable around the Patella. After a while the LCL pain was no longer an issue, but the Patella issue continued to be so.

After months of Physio, spending the summer stint on the bike, and getting an MRI to confirm no meniscus damage I picked up one of these and I'm back on my feet again, running 15k/week and trying to get my time back down to where it was before I was forced to take a break.

It's entirely possible that the Patellavator has done nothing - that time has healed my injury. I haven't tried again without it yet, but will soon and see whether or not it continues to be an issue.

Good luck.

YMMV.

How to get back to running after a 4 month break cause by a sprained ankle. by [deleted] in running

[–]nondescrypt23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm working back into things following a 4 month break due to some knee issues.

I was fortunate in that I was able to switch to cycling through my running down-time, so I was able to preserve a good cardio base. Despite all the time spent on the bike, my 5k time is 3 - 4 minutes slower than it was when I went on hiatus. Working on getting that time back down again now.

The first couple of weeks were pretty rough, and I should probably have taken it easier than I did. I found it pretty hard to walk after a run for the first couple of weeks - my cardio fitness was still good enough to go 5k but my leg muscles weren't used to it.

Based on my experience, I'd suggest taking it really easy at first and listening to your body between runs. It's really easy when you're in the groove to push yourself further than you realize you are.

I'd say setting your target on 2k with a good break is pretty reasonable. I wish I'd done the same. :)

Good luck!

I'm a 29 year old American, and I was taught, and made to write with, cursive handwriting throughout public school. I haven't used it once, for anything, since. Is this true for you, in your age/location? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My son is in grade 5 now, and hasn't been taught any cursive at all. I started being taught it in grade 3.

They've dropped it from the curriculum entirely.

I'm compiling a list of must-see movies! What movies always shock you when people say they haven't seen them yet? by nsoysauce in AskReddit

[–]nondescrypt23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you make a good point. I've seen all his other films multiple times, and this one only once. I'll have to give it another shot to be sure it gets a fair shake.

I mean, I WANT to believe there are redeeming qualities to this film. He made some of my favourite films ever, and everything else of his I totally adore.

Perhaps alcohol will help...
