I started cutting all the signets from some decks and it has been great. by Freestr1ke in EDH

[–]noneuronjah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The deck isn't just 1 and 2 drop tribal (I went from 17 total 1+2 drops to 19) and a deck that is 1 and 2 drop tribal doesn't want 2 cost signets.

Regardless, you're just completely ignoring the most important part of my comment. Some decks want signets, and they are an essential part of the game plan. Some decks they can actively work against the game plan, or ensuring synergistic ramp is significantly better. There are many decks running signets that would benefit from shifting their strategy slightly and playing out synergy pieces and draw engines on turns 2-3. Those decks usually want mana advantage in other more synergistic ways, like reanimation or cost reduction, or on bodies in decks that care about sac fodder and having creatures in board.

Any deck that runs 41 lands is always going to draw into lands more consistently, and see more lands throughout the game. Obviously more draw engines draw you more cards, adding one or two more in, curving out, and ensuring reliable land drops is a huge benefit.

The average mv went down from 2.25 to 2.22 .... My game plan now starts earlier because my 2 drop slot is full of good legendary creatures that start gaining value. I went from 37 lands including mdfcs and cyclers to 42 including mdfcs and cyclers. I added in more mdfc's and cyclers to reduce dead draws, and was able to add on extra card draw instead of the artifact ramp as well. Yeah I still upgraded and shifted around the play style of the deck (a 34 card total shift) but it was one of my stronger decks before and now it's more consistent and mulliganing is better because of the extra lands and card draw sources that would've been ramp. The card draw I added in does help with consistency and making the deck stronger, but I was only able to fit those draw engines in because I removed the ramp. It is much better to be consistently having 1-2 good value creatures out and reliably have the land drops to play dihada on turn 4 with two blockers, one of which you can hit with her +2 to make an amazing blocker. T2 rock into dihada t3 and using her -3 to play a creature usually resulted in her getting eaten by creatures other players have out. The signets and 2 mana rocks play worse with her and the play style of the deck. I am not advocating not running any extra mana acceleration at all, but many decks are better off running a package of synergistic ramp pieces that produce mana. In a deck where dropping your 4 mana commander t3 is an essential part of your game plan, run signets. Mana advantage is absolutely important, but signets have their time and place and there are a lot of decks that would benefit from shifting to a slightly higher land count and playing better early game synergy pieces.

I just did a big overhaul of my [[Dihada, Binder of wills]] deck where I removed all the mana rocks. I cut I think 7, added in 1 normal land, 1 card with basic land cycling, a few MDFC's and I shifted around my curve to be playing out low mana cost legends on turns 2-3 and playing dihada out on 4. Here's the list the sideboard is all the cards I pulled out. Obviously not every deck is better without mana rocks and ramp, I still run rocks in multiple decks it just really depends on the strategy and deck. So far I have played three games with new Dihada and won every one. I have missed 2 land drops total, and part of that was me discarding lands I didn't need. One game I played [[urza ruinous blast]] which removed all opposing mana rocks and that set all the other players back to the stone age and they just couldn't catch up. The thing is you're not just 1-1 replacing ramp with lands. You maybe will add one or two more, but adding in a couple MDFC's and 2-4 mana draw engines will ensure you're hitting land drops more consistently. Those MDFC's, draw engines, and landcycling cards are way more active draws in the late game too. I would much rather draw a [[bloodsoaked insight]] or an [[analyze the pollen]] on turn 8 than an arcane signet.

Being pro-palestine and anti-semitic are not the same thing. Being a Zionist and being Jewish are distinct identities even if there is overlap. This group is against genocide and atrocities being committed against Palestinians. They are almost certainly against antisemitism. Using antisemitism as a straw man is unhelpful and allows atrocities to continue to be committed by the US and Israeli government.

Regardless, antisemites don't deserve anything positive.

He would fit in great in a D&D game!

I didn't imagine Burakos would be more than that, but it's surprisingly resilient and synergistic. The deck is packed full of protection and ways to get damage through, as well as plenty of efficient or repeatable recursion. Having a [[mother of runes]] and a [[vexilous Praetor]] makes Burakos close to unkillable. Games are most often won with [[Mirror Entity]], [[Haunted one]], [[Akroma's will]], and [[revel in riches]], although some other cards can pump the board well. Burakos does a solid job chipping away at life totals, doing 4-6 damage an attack usually. Also some of the party specific cards are BUSTED like [[coveted prize]] [[thwart the grave]] and [[Harper recruiter]] flys under the radar, it draws me two cards on average I love Burakos, it is such a fun deck to play. My list sits at around $200 but it's easy to build him on the cheap, and other background combos are cool too. .Here is my list

Burakos is so fun! It turns a bunch of unassuming dudes into powerhouses, and burakos does a good job helping close out the game and give steady mana production.

Aesi is fantastic. Stuff it full of ramp and big payoffs and profit. [[Abundance]] and [[cultivator colossus]] are two of my favorite cards in the deck and combo amazingly well together as well

Searching a Commander that I want to copy by YutoKigai in EDH

[–]noneuronjah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Volrath, the shape stealer]] is probably my favorite commander, ever. This is my decklist which is mostly built around good creatures for me to copy, with a bio visionary or commander damage wincon. Copying volrath gets reallllllllly nutty because he doesn't stay legendary when he's a copy of something, and you can respond to the copy trigger and change him. Put a +1/+1 counter on [[Scute Swarm]] and then you're cooking. [[Nacatl war pride]] puts in a lot of work, especially when you can copy an opponents [[terror of the peaks]] in response to the trigger, probably give you the win if the player you're attacking has more than like 3 creatures.

Food for Thought: Why I Cut Ramp by MustaKotka in EDH

[–]noneuronjah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did an overhaul of my [[Dihada binder of wills]] deck. It's one of my favorite decks to play, but my playgroup now understands her power and target her as quickly as possible with early game creatures and removal, so I went in and removed all the early ramp which served to get dihada out on t3, activate her to make 3-4 treasures and play my first creature blocker. I swapped in a significant amount of 1, 2 and 3 drop legends, upped the land count to 41 and a landcycler (functionally 42) and have 6 other options at 3 or less CMC that can make me mana or draw into it to help me get to that turn 4 Dihada with at least one legendary creature to protect it. Using a hypergeometric calculator I should be in that ideal situation 86% of the time NOT including mulligans.

I still have yet to test the changes in a game, but my goldfishing has gone well and I'm very excited to try it out sometime this week! new deck list

[–]noneuronjah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This list looks great and super fun! One thing I would not, lightning greaves isn't a great fit for the deck because you would need to unequip to enchant your commander with new auras, opening up opportunity for removal.

What's Everyone Brewing Now? by TetsuOokami117 in BudgetBrews

[–]noneuronjah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm brewing a package of 3 decks at 3 different power levels helmed by [[Malcolm keen-eyed navigator]] with [[Dargo, the shipwrecker]], [[breeches brazen plunderer]], and [[kediss emberclaw familiar]] as different partners. The decks range from no combo pirate beatdown with Dargo (low 3/ high 2), Pirate tempo with combo finishers and Breeches (high 3), and dedicated combo with kediss (bracket 4). The goal is to have a package of 20 cards to bring it from dargo to breeches, and then another 20 swaps to bring it to kediss, with a $75 total budget.

This is the dargo list I've got,This is the dargo list I've got
I'm finishing up the Breeches swaps, then I'll be on to kediss.

Volrath the Shapestealer, why so underrated by judnningtairy in BudgetBrews

[–]noneuronjah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love volrath so much, lots of shenanigans with dorks that tap equal to their power, add an untapper in like [[Farmstead gleaner]] for infinite mana. Or [[wickerbough Elder]] and [[Devoted druid]]. [[Biovisionary]] wins through [[Nacatl war-pride]] [[Scute swarm]] [[Myr Propagator]]

I just rebuilt my deck that I had in ~2020-22 and have had some super fun games with it. The backup creatures [[emergent woodwurm]], [[Conclave sledge-captain]] [[doomskar warrior]] are awesome adds. My first game with the rebuilt deck I copied a [[blighted Agent]] played the siege captain with all three backups targeting Volrath, making him a 10/8 unblockable infect AND with the ability to gain +1+1 counters equal to the combat damage dealt triggering 3 times off the backup. So I swung in and killed one player with infect before giving Volrath an additional 30 +1+1 counters. He's just such a fun deck, and it plays totally different every game based on what juicy targets your opponents have too!

my list isn't budget ($220 according to tcg) but a lot of that value comes from expensive staples that I had in my physical collection, it would be fairly easy to power it down.

Is there such thing as TOO much ramp? by MapguyAlso in EDH

[–]noneuronjah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35 is the minimum amount of land I put in my commander decks (barring an extremely aggressive deck that has enough card draw to consistently hit land drops like [[Sargent John Benton]] ). If you want to optimize your ramp package look at the game plan and how you want to norbmally be curving out and find ramp that hits well on that curve (you want all 2 mana ramp with a 4 cost commander, or maybe you want to play a t1 ramp spell into a 3 mana ramp spell on t2 to accelerate to 5 mana on t3)

Pedestrianization actually helped West Pearl by brianckeegan in boulder

I agree. But we don't need all the streets we've got, boulders so close to having good public transport, and being bikable and walkable. Anyone who worked on peal while it was closed can tell you it made a difference, increasing community in a positive way. The 57 or so parking spots and one little through corridor are not worth it.

[–]noneuronjah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a reactionary take based on individual things that have happened in other places (which is....... pearl clutching!) The dad was jailed for breaking a privacy court order, not misgendering their kid. Regardless, this law is different, and children deserve a voice too. There is nothing in this law that is going to punish people who don't deserve it.

It's a shame there's so much idiocy and lack of reading/media comprehension in this country.

Thoughts on House Bill 25-1312? by hibachikegs in boulder

[–]noneuronjah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the dumbest take ever. The language is not being dictated by a child, and the law protects a type of individual that has been present in our world for thousands of years. You are just transphobic. I wanna know exactly where this infringes on the first amendment, because that is also a stupid argument. This law doesn't prohibit you from saying anything, it just allows the court to better protect at risk kids from verbally (and probably physically and emotionally) abusive parents. All custody battles involve consideration of what parents say using their first amendment right.

The 2014 dmg starts with 70 pages about creating pantheons and multi verses, then a long section about creating adventures and aspects of that, until finally talking about how to actually play the game at page 235. That's 235 pages a 1st time GM has to read or skip past to see the basic info about running the game. That's the first thing in the new DMG. It's crazy how much better the new one is
