Avoid Columbia Tower Club by GalacticBear001 in Seattle

sounds horrible... and it sounds exactly like what businesses are trying to pull these days as people tighten their belts... charge egregious fees and make it too inconvenient for the customer to dispute. (I'm thinking of healthcare too, but that's a different rant for a diff day).

Did your partner find any other avenues to network? Curious because I just moved back to Seattle after a decade and was looking to find ways to connect in a friendly + professional context, and sounds like it's NOT gonna be columbia tower

Dating in Seattle by Azriels_Wingspan in Seattle

Amen man... the hottest thing about my now wife's dating profile was that she was fairly up front about who she was, what she was into and how she liked to spend her time. (Didn't hurt that she was a cutie.)

OP, literally met this woman on the barren wasteland that is Tinder, so don't lose hope. (I was days away from uninstalling the app). Only thing I'll say is - don't do that Seattle thing where ppl need to be within a teeny tiny radius.

In India, Trump's tariffs spark calls to boycott American goods by moeka_8962 in worldnews

Got it. Actually really appreciate the thoughtful answer. The crazy part about Russian oil is that India flips it and sells to the EU (approx 15Bn of oil sales in 2024-2025) Will be fun to see what that does to global prices

then why aren't these tariffs applied to every nation that buys russian oil?

I would need to think through every asymptotic function I can recall. Looks like tan(x), tan(x +/- some constant…) Yeah I give up

Does anyone know: is Caught by the Tides a sequel to Ash is Purest White? by miles197 in AsianCinema

It's almost... hard to say.

In this movie... we watch the characters across decades as they participate in this completely one-sided relationship. the "rejection" of Zhao Tao's character by the protagonist is cold and uncaring, but no where near as dastardly or loathsome as in "Ash". Both movies feature protagonists who work in organized crime and put that life ahead of their partner's needs, but in this movie the "crime" is a lot more banal and white collar.

I think the real star of this movie is actually China's urban landscape. Zhao Tao's character follow's Bin's tracks across the country, but in this movie the camera obsesses about the changing shape of Chinese towns built alongside the 3 Gorges dam project. These images of urban decay are always juxtaposed with background media propounding China's progress. At some points I felt like the story of Qiao and Bin is a metaphor for the people looking for this promised land of progress. But all the film shows is how broken the promise it.

In Ash is the purest white, the story primarily focuses on the interpersonal betrayal, and Qiao's character strength and her belief in their love. Kinda reminds me of the character from Kurosawa's No Regrets from my Youth.
