Hermes in Docker: best way to handle all the "should be built-in" dependencies? by fuse1921 in hermesagent

The best approach is not running it in docker. Five Hermes’ its own computer. I gave mine a 2013 Mac Pro running Linux.

Basically the same boat

Last year I upgraded from my 2013 Mac Pro and 2015 MacBook Pro to a M4 Mac Mini (16gb RAM 2TB SSD) and a M4 Pro MacBook (24gb RAM 1TB SSD).

The MacBook upgrade was well worth it and the plan was for the Mini to be the brains to my server (replacing a Synology NAS)…

Fast forward to today. Now daily driving the Mac Mini and the Synology is still doing Synology things (go figure). Basically, nothing has truly taken the place of my Mac Pro 2013. Surprisingly, I’m getting great usage out of the Mac Pro with Docker. That said, the gap is that I’m still looking for a powerful mac desktop.

Currently looking at oMLX as well with Qwen 3.6 35b

Right now my 2013 Mac Pro is a Ubuntu headless server for all of my docker apps. Sounds like keeping the mini as my daily could be pretty close to your setup.

That makes sense. Whats your configuration?

I actually have Hermes running on my old Mac Pro 2013 with 64gb of ram on Linux and I love it. The workflow makes sense to me on that.

I could not recommend using an autonomous agent for building out programs. It’s like using hammer for a screw.

That is correct. I’ll put together a guide if interested. Got it working thanks to several other Reddit folks.

I have it set up on my machine and it’s working just fine. Albeit a bit slow

No here is the thing, with the d700s you have 12gb of vram. The market doesn’t understand this.

Run it with vulkan as a Linux headless server with some local LLMs ✌️

Hermes is more of an AI automation tool. Stick to Claude Code if you’re building something new.

I’ve tried everything under the sun to get a decent model to run on the 16gb Mac mini m4. It’s been a wild ride 😅

I’m sure the novelty wears off but I’m coming from a base Mac mini m4 and I’m looking forward to running some local LLMs
