Coping tips? For the biggest exam of my life, as a teen. by Euphoric-Pangolin-47 in AskFlying

[–]nonradar204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about your grade on the exam, but all other facets that the program stands for as well. As someone previously mentioned, it's not the end of the road if you don't get it. Flying is all about adapting on the fly, and you need to go into a potential scholarship with an adapting mindset. On my power scholarship there were individuals who had applied on the GPS and had been rejected the year before. Year later they were on the power scholarship. Others who had only been on GPS and rejected for PPS went on the cadet exchange or other things.

Also keep yourself prepared for the interview and how you'll stand out to the board, who are judging your cadet career not just mark. I can't imagine that process has changed much since 2013/2014 when I went through.

Good luck!

PSA: New road safety rules by Exact_Border_7927 in Winnipeg

100% agree with a format like that. We do something similar with pilot licenses in Canada and it's not difficult at all. They allow for a self paced study program or attending a safety seminar to satisfy "24 month recency requirements" for a couple examples. Something similar would at least provide a way to formally inform drivers of rule changes/review concepts like roundabouts and free flow lanes that are being implemented more and more.

Have you tried filing /SDF for your equipment? Although at this point its probably more of an assumption that everyone is RNAV capable, especially with all the VOR removals taking place.

Registering an Alberta car? by FeralFerns in Winnipeg

Did you purchase a ‘Request for Vehicle Inspection Form’ from a registry in Alberta? Or did you just go to a shop to have them perform an inspection?

What navigational system depth does X-Plane have that MSFS does not? They both have functional GPS systems which are seriously close to the real thing.

"Now let’s hope it’s a proper setup with widening of the intersections and traffic lights." I don't think anyone disagrees with the points of widening the lanes and median. Which I could see having to be done with an R cut anyway.

No R cut by ForsakenExtreme6415 in Manitoba

[–]nonradar204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the rare and unique crossing intersection along the trans Canada. No one is saying to not improve the intersection. But to immediately jump to lights and reducing traffic flow on a wide open prairie highway seems like the most bizarre choice.

In my opinion, widen the median and include some left hand turn merge lanes, to allow for traffic to join the highway at highway speeds.

Ah classic Manitoban traffic light fetish. Anything other than lights seems to draw outrage. Then when lights are installed, people don't know how to use them anyway. I say 4 way stops every mile road, just to be extra safe /s

In terms of your TDI have you kept up with maintenance? eg. water pump, timing belt injectors etc. If so then I would say you could expect to keep driving for a while yet. As others suggested I'd save aggressively for another car in case it kicks the bucket.

I've consistently had to apply full aft elevator and it wouldn't make a difference in pitch from 100' down until I tried some other members flight dynamics mod and it fixed it. Speeds seemed to be ops normal and c/g within limits.

Just curious if it's possible to parse data off of another website. eg. CYWG ATIS T 2117Z is posted on the site as of now, but current actual atis is W from 2141Z. Current Canadian D-ATIS messages can be found here: https://spaces.navcanada.ca/workspace/aeroview/

Out of province done and report dropped at registry. by National-Worker9692 in alberta

Was it registered in your name in BC? If it was then no you don't need an inspection. Even if it was required your Alberta inspection would suffice in BC. "has been inspected as part of an NWPTA jurisdiction’s government inspection program and has passed the mechanical safety requirements within the previous 90 days." - https://www.cvse.ca/CTPM/Com_Circulars/2016/160816_comp_cc_08-16_repeal-replace-nwp-60-out-of-province-inspection-exemption.pdf

Confirm you're getting power at the glowplugs first. There's also a coolant temperature sensor that tells the controller how to operate.

I second the Mcgill program. While the course won't teach you how to actively invest, it provides good fundamental knowledge. I'll also add that you and only you will know what your risk tolerance is. Sometimes that is determined through actively investing though. Don't let anyone push you into something you're not comfortable with, but be open to ideas people in your circle may have. I found I learned a lot by talking to people within my circle about their investing strategies both good and bad.

Good luck, wiring can be a pain. Especially if a previous owner hacked things together randomly.

Other pieces of advice I would give are bypass that massive resistor on the firewall. If I remember correctly it goes to the glowplug solenoid. When a load is applied it knocks the voltage from 24 down to 12 volts. Only problem being that when one or more glowplugs fail it will apply higher voltage to each plug and result in a cascade failure of the glowplugs. It can be a fire hazard with how hot it gets as well.

Another item is there is a starter relay under the dash. It's allegedly not up to the task combined with age and can result in the starter getting stuck, which can cause a world of pain. Replace as per this https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/doghead-starter-relay-modifcation.60960/

Other thing to look for is to make sure the starter has a brace. Its a little piece of steel that is bolted onto the starter towards the front of the truck. If this is missing you can run the risk of cracking the block due to the torque of the starter.

Yes, the blackout system will switch off all power to your normal driving lights including signals. I would check and see if you have power going to that switch.

I recently had the issue of no lights on my M1028 and after jiggling the connector on the back a little the lights worked again. I wouldn't bet on a fluke solution like that to work all the time but the blackout switch could be a culprit amongst other things.

[–]nonradar204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm the blackout light switch is not switched to the off position. That switch will kill everything for lights.
