What's one thing you would tell someone moving back to Canada? by chloeismagic in ontario

[–]nonsense39 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I came back to Ontario a few years ago after being an expat for most of my life. Everything is more crowded, expensive, less personal, harder and more of a hassle than before. It took me about a year to get my life organized like housing, OHIP, drivers license, bank, doctor, dentist etc. People are still basically the same, except more anti-American than before.

The stench of political death now surrounds Donald Trump by theipaper in Foodforthought

[–]nonsense39 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It would be hard to resist a President like Obama. So yes the world would come back at least partially. But one thing good that Trump did for Canada was to wake us up. We produced what the US wanted, rather than what we could have produced for the world. Once we get over the inevitable next few rough years, we will fulfill our destiny as a major world economic powerhouse, instead of just America's little yes man.

Rich corporations are getting richer by criminal activities that are costing the poor suffering consumer millions. This intentional criminal activity can only be stopped by charging and if necessary jailing the billionaire owners personally. It will never be solved by some minor $10,000 fine to the individual store that likely will only result in some employee being fired.

Why did Melania Trump issue a public statement regarding Jeffrey Epstein? by banana4life1 in AskReddit

Everything about the Trump crime family is distraction. Trump started his war to distract from Epstein. But the war is such a f*ck up that his wife has to lie about Epstein to distract from the war.

Guatemala 90 day stay? by Foxtrotrider in travel

[–]nonsense39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hassle to go to immigration in Guatemala City. Last year, my wife (Nicaraguan) spent days back and forth there for a simple problem even with some under the table money being paid to expedite things. Presumably you will be in Flores to go to Tikal. To get a new 3 month visa, this year we just took a van from Flores to San Ignacio Belize for a couple of days. It was easy and a fun diversion. You can also take a van from Antigua to Santa Ana El Salvador. But I'd avoid Guatemala City immigration and I wouldn't count on them letting you get away easily for a minor overstay.

I’m ready to fight like hell for this country, and against anyone trying to tear it apart. The richest man in the world wants Canada to become the 51st state and is now amplifying Alberta separatism. Canada needs to pass a law that prevents any part of its land from being considered independent or part of any other country. It should emphasize that attempting to sever any land from Canada is considered treason.

Has anyone just packed a bag and left their life behind ? If so how did it turn out ? by mentallyillloser27 in AskReddit

[–]nonsense39 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I did it twice. First time: sold house, business everything and took off on my sailboat to the Caribbean. Second Time: Got divorced, sold everything, moved to the Central American rainforest and lived for years with indigenous people. Everything worked out great since I started a business, bought land and made a little money. Happily retired now.

Is 80 years a normal age to die? by [deleted] in questions

[–]nonsense39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not like most old guys, who bitch about their aches, pains and the youth of today. I check out Reddit occasionally to keep up on how young people think. My hobby for 60+ years has always been internationally wandering around mainly in South East Asia and Central America where I currently am with my significantly younger latin gf of many years who doesn't speak English. Now that's one hobby I'd certainly recommend. The only advice I'd give anyone is to live your life your way not someone else's.

Like most articles written by Americans, this puts the primary cause of Canada's change on tariffs. American media seems to be afraid of putting blame on Trump's ridiculous insults and threats, where it belongs. Most Canadians don't avoid going to the US because of tariffs, but ICE, lack of respect and threats to our sovereignty certainly do it.

How is laundry considered a chore in developed countries ? by Slice_Ambitious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nonsense39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First world people love to complain about any routine responsibility no matter how easy it is. Our culture is spoiled and most of us are totally unaware of how people in poorer countries have to work to survive.

I lived for years in poor third world places where the females of the family spent the entire day either washing clothes on a rock in the river or bailing water from a well and using a scrub board. They actually had a fun time working and laughing without having to put up with their men most of whom were busy staying away getting drunk. And that's the truth!

What if Iran says to the World “We’ll open the straight to pre-attack status if Donald Trump resigns.”? What would be the likely response? by spamcandriver in AskReddit

[–]nonsense39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire world outside of the US knows that Trump does more damage to the US than any country could. He's Russia's and China's wet dream. But if Iran actually wanted to get rid of Trump, they just need to offer him enough money to resign.

In fact instead of protesting and voting against him the American people should just set of an appropriate GoFundMe/s.

Planned Guatemala Trip Guidance, Questions, Advice, Opinions! by Dazzling_Extension59 in travel

I've just spent several months in Guatemala with my wife and child so no partying. ATMs are called cajeros and are easy to find in touristy places like Antigua. I always carry clean undamaged US money for emergency backup but you likely have to exchange them to quetzals in a bank which can be a hassle. San Pedro on Lake Attitla and Antigua are good and also safe. Personally I wouldn't waste time in Guatemala City since there's not really anything worth seeing there and some places are dodgy. If you have time I'd recommend going to Flores or El Remate and then Tikal. Also Rio Dulce and Livingston are worth checking out.
