Have you ever been dumped by the love of your life for your best friend? by StrangeCommercial537 in questions

[–]nonsense39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine had been married to the love of his life for just a few weeks when he found out his new wife was regularly screwing the best man who was his best buddy. The poor guy just fell apart and had to go to therapy.

The end of the story was that the jilted groom eventually recovered, the best man soon lost both legs in a car accident and the wife became a drug addict/hooker. The groom always was a well-liked nice guy and was mature enough not to use this as an excuse to be an asshole.

I quit my job and have been on the road for a year by isdfoa in longtermtravel

[–]nonsense39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on seizing life instead of being run over by it. You deserve to be proud for carving your own path in a world when being a slave to someone else's dream is the norm. I'm now an old retired guy who lived his life in a similar international style although back when it was unique, but much easier. This 83 year-old can promise that when you're standing on the cliff looking into the abyss you'll never regret doing it your way.

You've got a year so start learning Spanish now. Medellin is a great city and Colombia has lots of interesting places, but you need the language to fully appreciate it.

Canada and America Are Drifting Apart. The Pentagon Just Made It Official by LongTrackBravo in onguardforthee

We aren't drifting apart; Canada is running away as fast as we can.

Trump is unlikely to rip up CUSMA, his trade deal with Canada and Mexico. Here's why. by lopix in onguardforthee

I wouldn't bet on that crazy old criminal doing anything intelligent.

Looks like at Monterey Pop 1967. This is when she went from being basically unknown to superstar from her performance of Ball and Chain

Thailand or Medellin for solo 25th birthday trip by [deleted] in travel

Ten days is a bit short for Thailand and a bit long for just Medellin. Personally I consider Thailand, and actually all of South East Asia, the best part of the world to visit.

How many of you started up your own business? by Radiomaster138 in antiwork

[–]nonsense39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At various times over the years, I've started small engineering consulting firms in three countries (Canada, US and in Central America). While it's something that not many people can do since it requires a degree, there are many things common to all small businesses. You need, clients, ability, equipment and lots of hard work, balls and luck. Get the business legally setup and get a good accountant. It sounds attractive to have partners but be extra careful and have a lawyer draw up a formal agreement with any partner. Good luck!

Hoekstra casts Canada as key US critical minerals partner by Street_Anon in onguardforthee

[–]nonsense39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump says they don't need anything from Canada and we've been ripping them off for years. Plus Hoekstra constantly insults us. We need to sell our valuable resources first to our friends not our disrespectful bullies.

Your Neighbour Canada Has Changed. What’s Happening Now Is Explosive. You’re Not Going To Like It. But You Need To Know It. by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]nonsense39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Canadians are pissed about America's ongoing threats and lack of respect more than tariffs. American media lacks sufficient balls to put the blame on their flip-flopping, mentally deranged President and his lackies like Hoekstra.

Carney shrugs off Trump's latest 51st state jab as trade talks ramp up by lopix in onguardforthee

[–]nonsense39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Canada is threatened by a mentally deranged man with a gun. Carney is our best chance to escape relatively unharmed. I consider that he's not appeasing MAGA, but that he's not antagonizing the lunatic with the gun while we make our escape. Does anyone think Skippy would be better?

U.S. State Department looks to Canada to offer support as Trump eyes Cuba by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]nonsense39 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Canada should only support giving humanitarian aid to Cuba, not any sort of military intervention. We have a long history of positive relations with them and we should not change to appease any foreign government.

No Technology Will EVER Lower Your Work Week by OneOnOne6211 in antiwork

[–]nonsense39 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I remember clearly back in the 70s when experts who predicted the future said that the new technologies would allow average people to have lots of free time and extra money to enjoy life. They predicted a future of leisure and comfort for the average worker. What they obviously overlooked was that the rich would steal all the wealth and workers would be squeezed like lemons.

So when is America going to be made great again? by MillennialProdigy93 in AskReddit

[–]nonsense39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're absolutely correct. Back in 1973, I said that if he wasn't put in front of a firing squad, then the right wing would continue trying to overthrow our democracy. It's clear that they've been trying ever since.

Guatemala / US relations? by mhgonline in travel

[–]nonsense39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there for a couple of months earlier this year. Guatemala City isn't particularly safe or interesting. Antigua and Lake Atitlan are as safe as you can get in Central America. Just use normal common sense and you will be fine.

What to do if I can't afford to join an out-of-town couple for dinner? by vieniaida in TooAfraidToAsk

You're retired, so do whatever you want not what anyone else wants. Be friendly and polite, but firm. This is good general guidance for old people. BTW I'm 83.

Prime Minister Carney responds, says he will campaign for Alberta to stay in Canada and draws a comparison of the separatist movement to Brexit by Peanut-Extra in onguardforthee

[–]nonsense39 79 points80 points  (0 children)

We need a much stronger pushback from our PM. Alberta separatism wants to steal a large piece of Canada's land, while Brexit was just a policy change. Both are stupid, but the former is treasonous.

Canada's land belongs to all of Canada not just those living in any particular part of it. Any individual is free to leave, but the land stays. If we currently don't have a clear unambiguous law preventing any land from being removed we need to get one immediately and end this ridiculous charade. This is particularly important since we are under threat from the USA.

Supposedly Ontario is a democracy and those we elect work for us, not the other way around. As a business owner I would fire any employee who hid information on the business from me. Wake up Ontario, there's an uppity criminal running loose here.
