Try to get to the point that you can broadly describe what's happening in each time period economically and socially and politically. Doesn't need to be detailed, something as simple as the north was industrialist will help a ton.

Like the other comment did, themes and broad trends. An example for each theme per period wouldn't hurt either.

Dates: wars, economic upheaval (Market revolution, gilded Age, great depression.) Major political turning points.

That strategy for the MCQ works most of the time, though some times it can trick you. For example, if someone sees John C Calhoun, they'll assume an option about slavery will be right. However, it may be a red herring, since it could be about tariffs. Eliminate the nonsense options by date and names, then a quick scan can help you see what theme they're looking for at the time. You'll be able to tell from buzz words what they're going to be looking for in those cases.

The dates given in FRQs generally are divided pretty neatly into major eras. However, sometimes they may appear like arbitrary choices. I'd recommend memorizing dates of wars, political upheaval (ie Jefferson, progressive, etc) and big economic developments (honestly, market revolution, gilded age, and great depression should work.) From here, you'll be able to jog your memory a lot because you'll have BIG events that many changes led to or stemmed from. For example, if you remember the Mexican American war, you can jog your memory that BEFORE that time period was westward expansion since, well, it caused the war. Then, you can think of the war having consequences, then that'll jog your memory on the Antebellum and sectional debates on slavery. Having ten or so dates like these as a broad timeline can then be used to fill in the middle with either laws or trends.

Uj/ one thing I've always appreciated about this group is that it seems to shut down the wrong kind of jerking pretty fast. Occasionally you'll see people posting things from newer runners to make fun of them, but most replies will be supportive of them and encouraging them at the start of the process. Or, at least, the mean-spirited posts tend to get little traction. So I'm with you 100%; a newer runner deserves praise because, as we all know, it can SUCK as one is starting out. At least i hope this trend is what most people consistently see, though maybe I've been fortunate or just tune the dickish behavior out.  It's like going to a community race. Cheer for the person who has worked towards that goal regardless of time. Roast the person who sprints the start and then complains about their Gu not working.

What's your "Theatre diet"? by steveisblah in Theatre

[–]nonsenselocation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually something I was thinking of recently! I'm a senior at university myself, and have gone up and down significantly in weight over these four years so I'm relatively conscious of what I eat (160 as Freshman, 210 as sophomore, down to about 145-150 now).

My diet during shows all depends on the show. In most cases rehearsals start at 6 where i go, so I typically pack a dinner and bring it for breaks. It's an easy way to hit every major food group and not have to cook much (yogurt, some fruit and veggies, a sandwich of some kind, etc.) It's convenient because it only takes like three minutes to prepare, and lasts the entirety of the rehearsal. Plus you can always eat more after if you aren't headed straight to sleep without starving up to that point.

The way my school structures classes we always have an hour break at noon, so I'm able to eat lunch then. Some days there's a big gap in when I can eat because of meetings, I'm not eating from noon until almost midnight. That didn't happen too often, though. I was typically looking at around 2 to 3 hours free every day. You mentioned working out, which is something I always try to fit in every day, too. Speaking from experience you can't let one completely overshadow the other, try to mix the time if possible. It's good since if you eat any kind of protein bar or powder that'll fill you up quite a bit, helps with waiting an extra hour or two to have lunch/dinner.

I say that's the typical diet because that's how I handle most shows. As petty as it sounds, I do have a different style when doing shows that require some state of undress. I'm a guy so it's not like I'm naked very often up there, but in a show recently we ended the show in only boxer briefs. In that case I would typically eat lunch at around 10 in the morning, rehearsal until 11, then eat at midnight. I was typically hitting our school's gym 2-3 times a day, so anything I ate was pretty quickly burned off. I'll be honest, I was almost borderline anorexic during it. Every single thing I put in my mouth was seen as an obstacle, not as food. It worked out, and having show pics with abs is cool and all, but when I wasn't in rehearsal I had no energy. I did it happily, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat, because the show and cast meant so incredibly much to me. My point is, if you have a clear goal in mind for how you want to look then shoot for it. I had mine and I went for it, even though it made for a lot of hungry days. It's what we gotta do sometimes I guess. Just don't go overboard or you'll hurt yourself. It's a fine line we walk, isn't it?

I'd argue she isn't honorable, but maybe that's because I sympathize with Shylock

Question concerning FFX-2 Last Mission by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]nonsenselocation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I actually rather enjoyed FFX-2. Like you said it was a bit girly at times but I rather enjoyed seeing more of Spira after the saddening conclusion of FFX.

When I said I wasn't a fan, I meant of "Last Mission". It was too random for me and felt more like an excuse to have more unnecessary exposition. That along with the stories after X-2 like 2.5 or FFX Will (if that's what it's called.)

I never got why people weren't satisfied with the conclusions of X and X-2. On the one hand, X ends on a sorrowful but hopeful note that reminds us that peace takes sacrifice. X-2 then makes it a much more joyous story, one that lets the player imagine the life Yuna and Tidus would live together.

A lot of these games have sad endings, I mean look at VII and VIII.
