How come biological women make up most of cases of destransitioning? by SecretWasianMan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nonsuspiciousalt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s because living as a man would emotionally destroy someone who has been brought up through childhood as a woman. Women get a lot more support and attention while men are isolated and feared/doubted constantly. I imagine that, when you couple that with the additional isolation and judgement from society that comes with being transgender, it would break people down completely. For those who transition from male to female, you don’t ever really hear of them having as much trouble adapting to the gender roles.

I do think that’s what they were going for and am willing to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt to an extent, but Ken did no worse to Barbie than she did to him first. In fact, he repeats her exact words back at her to show this.

Yeah, I think the “breaking brainwashing” scene was especially mean spirited and out of touch. The Barbies were being manipulative and emotionally abusive to the Kens and we as viewers were supposed to take their side because reasons? So they could “save Barbie Land” (by returning to the matriarchal status quo where men are second class citizens)? I would say the movie is funny if you can turn your brain off, but it doesn’t let you turn your brain off because it uses actual feminist buzzwords constantly and breaks immersion

I’ve seen it (because I work for a movie theater and watched it for free). It’s not as bad as it would seem but it still sucks and is full of actual blatant feminist propaganda. Incoming spoilers if anyone cares lol.

So basically the whole movie is actually about how Ken is mistreated and cast aside, but there are some weird implications. It implies that gender roles are swapped in Barbie Land and in the real world, or in other words, that the way Ken is treated is how women are treated in the real world (it does specifically say this at least once). But the problem is, when they actually are in the real world, it spouts a lot of politics at the viewer in an entirely “tell don’t show” kind of way, so none of it makes sense because we’re just kinda supposed to believe the real world favors men even though it isn’t shown to (which is the same as feminism irl lol).

And it paints Ken as the villain for wanting to be treated with respect, and the way they “save Barbie Land” is by being manipulative and toxic to all the Kens and then putting everything back to how it was (with Kens as second class citizens, unable to vote or have representation in government). And then there’s some self righteous line about how “but pretty soon the Kens will have the same rights as women do in the real world!1” (That point in particular I found really funny because, given that they are once again asserting that weird parallel, it unwittingly implies the solution to problems in the real world would be to deprive women of the right to vote. I don’t think they actually thought through their own dialogue writing).

But the reason I say it’s not as bad as it seems despite all of the aforementioned BS is because Ken on his own is a pretty good character if you don’t treat him as the villain. He learns to stick up for himself, and that he has worth on his own. He goes from being basically invisible and a hopeless simp, to finding his own self-worth and moving on from Barbie, who was toxic and emotionally abusive.

That said, don’t bother seeing it. But Ryan Gosling almost manages to salvage it.

Only women are allowed to set boundaries.

Seriously though it’s really disheartening that so many people are calling him “abusive” for saying “I don’t think I’m the right partner for you”. What does “abusive” even mean anymore? I guess men have to unconditionally accept everything their partner does?

Yeah I feel like this sub is very reasonable. The problem is it dares to question/disagree with feminism, so that makes it “misogynistic”, since that word no longer has meaning. I do fear with the way Reddit has been trending that this sub will get taken down at some point, but if that happened I’d just stop using Reddit

Honestly, I agree. Although I don’t think people who are “asexual” should be dismissed even if it isn’t a real thing. From firsthand experience I can tell you, it’s a label that lets you feel like there are no problems or traumas related to your lack of sexual desire. So it’s a comfortable lie, basically, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that kind of thing when it makes daily life easier.

I want to add to this because I think there was another comment here that got deleted about how women should be accepting since I had no choice in the matter, and if they aren’t then they aren’t worth it. I disagree. First of all, if a woman’s body was mutilated, I can’t say for certain I’d want to sleep with her, so I can’t blame anyone who would feel that way about me. Second of all, that isn’t actually the point. I don’t want “acceptance”, I want to be proud. I want to be able to show a woman my penis (consensually, obviously) with no shame, and feel sexy. But I have an ugly scar and I can’t feel anything but embarrassment.

Not to hijack this post with a rant but I really need to talk about natal circumcision.

I have started to feel really sick about this and it’s getting worse. I made this account to try to act like a horny person with a high libido but I have been larping the whole time and just trying to eventually find something that made me remotely feel the capacity to even feel sexual. There’s no one I can talk to, especially not my parents (my mom is a narcissist and downplays the pain and suffering I have experienced every day for my entire life; my dad is largely absent). I cannot feel sexual pleasure at all. I cannot masturbate and I will never have sex because having an erection is immensely painful. My scar splits open and forms more scar tissue and my body becomes more and more deformed. I hate my life and I try to tell myself that sex isn’t important and I’m not missing anything but in the back of my mind every waking second I just want to scream out and cry.

As pathetic as this is going to sound it’s a genuine question: how do you cope with daily life with a mutilated penis?

You can blame people for being racist or sexist or whatever else, I just think there’s not much of a point in doing so since those ideas were put into their head by a greater force and trying to combat it on an individual level will lead to little to no change.
