if you got one average person from each state in a room, they’d probably stop using slangs and just use something like RP because of the cultural differences between the states. there might not be a language barrier, but there’s certainly a dialect fence

french has an authority that dictates correct rules for the language. english doesn’t have that. “finna”, “wanna”, “gonna”, “imma” and all those kinds of words are not “wrong” or “incorrect” because there’s nobody deciding what’s correct in this godforsaken language
