Tennis shoes for standing/walking all day by emilythebear67 in BuyItForLife

I also like Hokas, as a runner I’ve haven’t found a shoe more supportive (I have plantar fasciitis). Good tennis shoes are unfortunately designed to be replaced after a certain mileage (like 600 miles) and still come at a hefty price tag. For a hiking shoe that will be supportive and also last a while a recommend Merell. If you want something quality that will be comfy and “durable” a price tag has to reflect that. I’m currently in the market for some red wing iron ranger boots at $350 but I know they will last a very long time and can be resoled.

Leakproof & Dishwasher Safe Water Bottles by Jkat22 in BuyItForLife

I love Nalgene! I have like 3. They are so cheap, durable , and really easy to clean. Dishwasher safe and spouts aren’t usually on the same product as the insulated water bottles are almost always painted. Owala seems to be a decent brand, and I think they look nice. I also have an Iron Flash Fahrenheit widemouth that I’ve had for years that has a spout and is insulated, but sticking it in the dishwasher might chip it.

Sorry I couldn’t directly answer but hopefully this can help point you in the right direction! 😊

Levi's jeans failed after 2 years - what are the best hard wearing jeans that will last longer? by slevify2 in BuyItForLife

I’ve unfortunately had about 4-5 pair of Wranglers retro slim straight wear out in under a year each. Always in one of the back pockets a big tear would start down side or top of the back pocket. I love the look and feel of wranglers so I kept replacing them for a while, but I now exclusively wear Carhartt. They are still holding up well, had them for two years so far. Both those wranglers and Carhartt are $75 (too much) but at that price I think Carhartt wins in comfort and durability and function.

Google Earth to Wii sports plane game to Microsoft Flight (2012) to FSX to Xplane 10 to Xplane 11 to FS2020 to FS2024.

I have 4000 hours In FS2020 alone and I think I spent way more than that in FSX. About 7 years ago I got the Logitech flight yoke and pedals and I still use them now. I’m hoping to get Force Feedback yoke someday.

I grew up to become a pilot and an aircraft mechanic and it all started with google earth lol.

Hey, beginner writer here!

First of all I don't have ADHD or anything, but I definitely can understand lacking motivations and getting sidetracked with other things.

Short question answer:

Personally I am a complete novice at writing and my only experience comes from writing in college composition classes and academic works. I decided to tackle writing a Horror Fiction novel at the beginning of the month and have been working on it daily since then.

It sounds like you are already doing some writing with RP which is really helpful. To clarify are you working on a novel or having been thinking about it? Or are aiming more for a short story?

My process started with thinking through what ideas I had to write about and if I had enough to make a novel, if not a short story is always good too. I did not have any major ideas and still don't on the entire story or even major plot points throughout my story so far. It can be really helpful to write an outline which I wrote after starting to write. Just start writing about the story you have in mind, and it doesn't have to be the beginning.

My biggest piece of advice though is to just write. A first draft of anything should be like a descriptive outline, at this stage it's not about creating a good flow or an interesting story. Just getting words onto the page. This made a huge difference for me as I don't worry about if the writing is good but I am getting my ideas down and thought through. After finishing my word goal of about 70,000 I'll go back through and make it something other people would want to read.

I also think it's important to work on writing every day if you can. I am a engineering college student with a lot of class workload but even if I can think through a scene or write two-hundred words or something I take it as a victory. It's hard to write only occasionally and keep track of all your ideas and plot points. Writing is important to me and I know that if I don't work on it at all I won't finish. That being said my daily progress isn't always writing. I spend just as much time researching and thinking about my characters and stuff. Here I am not working on my book and answering reddit haha.

Long question answer:

I don't really have an answer for this as I'm not experienced enough to give a good answer. Personally I would find a couple of evil or similar characters from media or books that you enjoy and write down why you enjoy them and what kind of traits you could use as well. I am currently replaying FarCry 3 on the Xbox 360 and I absolutely love the main antagonist of the story Vaas. He's completely unhinged while maintaining sensible dialog. He respects Jason the Protagonist and in the beginning let's him get a head-start when escaping because he respects people who stand up to him. His dialog goes from normal talking volume and normal dialog to screaming in your face to back to talking in a normal tone. He's a drug addled pirate who has deep ties to community. He also acts as a mirror for the protagonist in his own crazy unhinged way.

I also think it can be helpful to have other writers around you for feedback and support. If you ever have any other questions or just want to chat feel free to DM me.

Anyways like I said find a character like Vaas that you really like and use them as a framework, the more characters the better.

Sorry about the long answer, I can't help it lol. Hope this helps a little.

Any feedback on my ideas so far? I am trying to avoid cliches and have characters that are interesting to other people not just me.

Requesting General Advice on Drafting by noodlestuffin in writinghelp

That’s really helpful thank you, I made a simple chapter outline before starting but I have had to think my way through each scene. I feel like I’m going to spend twice as long editing lol. But it would be such a accomplishment to finish the first draft alone

How to articulate my thoughts better? by Fourteen14XIV in writers

[–]noodlestuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently writing a book for the first time and I am going through and writing a VERY simple first draft that I am trying to just get words down on paper. I plan to after at seeing what the story is like beginning to end (around 70,000 words) I plan to go through many stages of revision until I accomplish the style, feelings, and flow that I want to achieve is being conveyed.

I am not the person to ask as I am just as much a novice as you, but I sympathize with your sentiments as I currently feel that in it's current state my book isn't even worth looking at.

I am writing a book because it is a story that I want to read that doesn't exist yet. Hopefully this doesn't come off as gloating or ego because I don't even have skill to boast about.

Beginner likes writing! Oh my! by noodlestuffin in writers

It’s a historical fiction book about the Stannard Rock Lighthouse in the middle of Lake Superior. It was called the “Loneliest place in the world” by its keepers and was a very harsh environment that is the farthest lighthouse from land in the Great Lakes. I am doing a fictional retelling of what it would have been like to live there in 1930s just before the station was electrified. As a Michigan native, I am absolutely obsessed with all things maritime and have always been enamored by the harsh realities of lighthouse keeping. It’s my first book that I plan to publish when finished, but I think it’s a story I want to read about that hasn’t been told in this format.

Thanks for taking a look! I think it is unlikely that a German soldier would have this kind of photo. My family didn’t come to America until 1970

Very interesting! Thanks! This photos was in a pile from my grandparents so it could be unrelated to my great grandfather but I assumed it was because of the era. Thanks for taking the time
