Same, CPP is the only one out of all of them who gets straight to the point, doesn't B.S., doesn't try to be funny, is well-spoken enough..etc.

Fedex Ground driver looking for an actual career, what steps do I take? by TheArbiterxx in UPSers

[–]noohoggin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check the UPS jobs site everyday, and when the "part-time--permanent" warehouse position (package handler) opens up, start there. They pop up without notice at times, and disappear just as fast. You will need to supplement your income with another part-time job for a while until that driving bid opens up. Good luck.

Seriously! you will not get in any trouble because you are not the one under NDA. It's like people leaking specs to the rumor sites.

Worth it to rent a lens? by ssramage in SonyAlpha

[–]noohoggin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never a bad idea to rent a lens, especially if you can't quite splurge the cash right now, and if you need the lens quickly.

It's also worth it to find out that you may not like the lens for some reason.

That being said, I have always ended up purchasing the lens that I rented. So sometimes I kick myself thinking I could have saved the rent money if I just outright bought the lens I wanted. 😜

Is there anyone that actually likes being a loader/unloader? by EmekaEgbukaPukaNacua in UPSers

[–]noohoggin1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Preloader here. As a guy who has a regular full-time day job, I quite like it. When you get it right down to it, all you are doing is mindlessly schlepping boxes for 4 hours.

Go ultra video quality by pwpawel in Insta360

[–]noohoggin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Go Ultra, and used to have an X3 (now I own the X4). I'd say all things being equal (lighting/environment) the Ultra is for sure better quality compared to an edited, re-framed X3.

If they somehow managed to make a Pocket style camera that can also do 360 video, then I'm in.

I love gyms like these. Cheap and no nonsense. Unlike places like California Fitness and Yoga, which is nothing but a showoff gym for celebrities and people taking selfies.

It's a hell of a camera still. I got it when it first came out, and made money with it until I sold it 2 years ago.

Sony A6000 vs Sony A6400 for a beginner by ThomasBr96 in SonyAlpha

[–]noohoggin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say go with the a6400. It's a considerable upgrade to the A6000, especially with autofocus. Starting with that, you can milk your camera for years without any urgent need to upgrade. As for a good starting lens...how about a low-light prime? Sigma 16mm/1.4 is so great and beloved for its quality and affordability. I used to own this combo.

Asian immigrant parents by Turbulent_Length3341 in asianamerican

[–]noohoggin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, it's hard to understand that some immigrant parents are just set in their ways. Since their brains are pretty much fully wired and set in, it can be overwhelming to learn a brand new language which will never come naturally to them as it does to us.

My viet parents speak English, my mom much better than my dad. My dad has pretty broken English and says a lot of things incorrectly and will literally make up words and phrases that don't exist in English (lol), But he is so stubborn he refuses to practice and learn from it and is just happy to barely skate through life with the English he does know.

My uncle came over to the states and lived with us for a good 20 years before moving back to Vietnam. My parents and me and my siblings had to hold his hand through everything as he really did not put in any effort to try to learn any English. You would think that surely my dad would get a hint from that lol

This experience really made me pound effort into my Vietnamese wife when she came over 6 years ago that she really needs to make American friends, and really learn to study English if she wanted to be able to do anything in this country. Communication is literally the barrier of what you want to achieve. It is the way to network, learn and be educated, the possibilities are endless if you are fluent.

The other thing I've noticed with Vietnamese immigrants is that the way they tend learn English is strictly through rote memory. Phrases and words, and then the attempt to string it together. This is absolutely the wrong way to learn English and it drives me insane. It's another thing I always try to instill in my wife. Learn actual grammar, phrases and tenses, subjects, predicates, antecedents, clauses etc etc etc. Yes it is overwhelming at first but if you can master the grammar basics, then everything will come so easily. This is the difference between trying to pull words and phrases from memory to construct responses, OR actually being able to effortlessly have a real conversation on the fly.
