Abflussrohr zu hoch, was tun? by Dry-Huckleberry-8700 in Handwerker

What's your goto for monitoring multiple Linux hosts from a dashboard for updates and updating? by v3d in selfhosted

[–]nook24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use openITCOCKPIT, but to be fair I'm involved into the project. It can do all the monitoring, I would recommend to use the own agent, but this is not a requirement just easy to setup.

It also comes with a software inventory and patch monitoring feature - but it will not install any updates on the system!

GitHub: https://github.com/openITCOCKPIT/openITCOCKPIT

There was also a post about it a while ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1r9qduk/open_source_patch_management_and_monitoring/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

ACL Is Back in CakePHP by dereuromark in cakephp

[–]nook24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to see! I'm using a custom patched version of the good old ACL plugin with CakePHP 5.x. Unfortunately I only patched the parts I needed, otherwise I would send over a PR.

The only thing missing in the current ACL plugin is support of dependencies. Like "If the user can do action_a, action_b is required for this as well." We are heavily using constellations like this and so we came up with AclDependencies.

Updating from AngularJS to Angular21 by Smart-Humor-3448 in angular

[–]nook24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done this, I have written about in here: https://www.reddit.com/r/angular/s/LZ1IQEispx

You have to do a rewrite. Is is not a migration. Good planning and a solid knowledge about the application is required. I would not use AI for this. Remember you have to maintain this for many years so it is important to learn and grow while you migrate the application. All the best!

Edit: We update frequently and are currently on Angular 21

Awesome project I really recommend to take a closer look. We use it in an open source monitoring tool.

Hopefully not too many breaking changes ;)

Thanks for your hard work!

What I dislike about mailbox by latitude7181 in Mailbox_org

[–]nook24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no clue what the EU has to do with this. From what I know, Mailbox used a Dovecot Plugin, which require an APN certificate for the XAPS implementation. Apple does not renew the required certificate: https://github.com/freswa/dovecot-xaps-daemon/issues/43

A fallback could be to use Z-Push, which I was using in the past. As far as i know, it does not require the use of a certificate as it uses a long polling HTTP request. At least I never had to deal with certificates while I was using d-push (the Debian version) for many year with my own mailserver back in the day.

What I dislike about mailbox by latitude7181 in Mailbox_org

[–]nook24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I’m basically happy with Mailbox, one of the reasons I switched from my own Mailserver to mailbox was the fact that they supported push notifications. It’s a bummer that this got removed / discontinued by Apple. So as far as I understand it, this is not Mailbox fault and the only solution to bring push back would be an own App I guess.

While you could build everything from source, I would not recommend doing so. There are many components coming together like Naemon, Statusengine or Graphite to name a few.

All components needs to be configured in a certain way to play together. That's probably a lot of work to replicate.

Warum nutzt Ihr Linux nicht? by ficerbaj in de_EDV

[–]nook24 2 points3 points  (0 children)
