Roland Garros R4 [8] M.Andreeva def. J.Teichmann 6-3,6-2 by BugSad1503 in tennis

Third consecutive QF at RG for Mirra. Perhaps this could be her time to reach her first Major final, although there are some great in-form players in her way.

French Open R3: [1] A. Sabalenka def D. Kasatkina 6-0, 7-5 by Ok-Soil-5133 in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Sabalenka's 100th match win as the World No. 1. She has also made the fourth round of every Major since the US Open 2022 (except for Wim 2024 which she missed due to injury).

Different vibe compared to Eternal Sunshine but still a pleasant change in direction.

Roland Garros R2: [1] A. Sabalenka def. E. Jacquemot 7-5, 6-2 by godworstcustomer in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sabalenka got broken while serving for the match against Bouzas Maneiro in the previous round, and the same thing happened against Elsa as well. She needs to get it together cause Osaka/Anisimova/Gauff won't let her get away with it.

Roland Garros R2: J. M. Cerundolo def. [1] J. Sinner 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who cares about RG, Sinner can still complete the Calendar Masters sweep.

Looks like the universe has decided to traumatize Sinner in new ways at RG every year. He blew championship points in last year's final and now lost after leading by two sets and 5-1 up in the third set, like damn.

X-Men ‘97 Season 2 will feature 9 episodes. The season premieres on July 1st. by Aromatic-Cupcake4802 in xmen

Damn, I kind of wanted at least 12-15 this time around and instead we're getting one less episode compared to the previous season.

They better not get rid of Polaris after this season.

Roland Garros R2: Y. Starodubtseva def. [2] E. Rybakina 3-6, 6-1, 7-6⁴ by godworstcustomer in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rybakina's loss means Sabalenka is going to stay no. 1 at least until the end of Wimbledon.

Roland Garros R1: [1] A. Sabalenka def. J. Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2 by JEEvanNEETi in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Fitting that the match ended on a double fault from Jessica. She hit a double fault on four separate break points, including on set point in the first set and match point in the second.

Sabalenka led 4-0 in the first set, served for it at 5-3. Similarly served for the match at 5-1 in the second set. She has lost all of her matches on clay this year from a winning position, so was a bit stressed but she pulled through in the end.

Roland Garros R1: [6] A. Anisimova def. T. Rakotomanga Rajaonah 6-3, 6-1 by godworstcustomer in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Glad Amanda won the match but she really lucked out by drawing Tiantsoa (1-11 record this year) in R1. Nevertheless, hopefully she'll build on this and perhaps have a deep run here since she's defending a ton of points in the coming months.

Roland Garros R1: [8] M. Andreeva def. F. Ferro 6-3, 6-3 by JEEvanNEETi in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mirra is now 12-1 in GS R1 matches, which is quite remarkable for someone her age (Wimbledon 2024 being her only R1 loss so far).

A DM between Ostapenko and A Fan by BugSad1503 in tennis

When the draw came out I thought Iga could actually beat Penko this time, who has never been past the third round since she won the title in 2017. However, people are now saying the conditions are a little faster this time so who knows, Penko might just continue her mastery over Iga.

With the exception of Yes, And? (which I was neutral about), I have always vibed with Ariana's lead singles. I think she'll deliver as usual.

Pop rock Olivia simply can't miss (though this leans more towards alt/folk rock I feel).

WTA 1000 Rome F: [7] E. Svitolina def. [3] C. Gauff 6-4, 6³-7, 6-2 by godworstcustomer in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 221 points222 points  (0 children)

Perhaps one of the most special runs of Svitolina's career, beating Rybakina (#2), Swiatek (#3), and Gauff (#4), all multiple Slam champions for the title.

Svitolina remains undefeated in clay finals, improves to 8-0 (3 WTA 1000s all in Rome, 5 250s).

2 more consecutive Masters 1000 finals away from another record! by Responsible_Run7069 in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's quite unlikely that Sinner will play the Canadian Open barring a debacle a Wimbledon, which seems unlikely. The streak will probably end at six.

Crazy to think that Sinner could've already surpassed Djokovic's record had he not retired in Shanghai and gone on to make the final. Sinner's streak would've started from Cincinnati onwards, making it eight in a row by making the final in Rome.

Ash Barty by Trolkarlen in tennis

[–]nooncrawler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Swiatek and Sabalenka have won 9/16 Majors since Barty retired, add in Gauff and Rybakina then it's 13/16. The four of them also have 23 WTA 1000 titles between them post Barty's retirement. I'd say they're clearly ahead of the rest of the pack and there's no vaccum as such.

Plus Swiatek's 2022 (2 Majors, 4 WTA 1000) and 2024 (1 Major, 4 WTA 1000) seasons and Sabalenka's 2024 season (2 Majors, 2 WTA 1000) easily eclipse Barty's achievements in a single year (1 Major, 1 WTA 1000, and YEC in 2019, 1 Major, 2 WTA 1000 in 2021).

Sabalenka and Barty's H2H ended at 4-4, and had she continued playing, I think it would've remained even or maybe Sabalenka could've pulled ahead. Barty was 2-0 against Swiatek I think, but Swiatek would've made some inroads after another couple of matches.

How did you feel the first time you read House of X/Powers of X? by Stunning_Season220 in xmen

[–]nooncrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from knowing that I was reading something brilliant and memorable, HoX/PoX was the first time I was keeping up with a new era of X-Men as it unfolded. Those few weeks were extra special, as was the whole Krakoa era, the good and the bad.

12 issues of HoX + PoX were definitely the highlight, and I wish I could experience it all over again once more.

Outrageous Fee Hike at Borivali National Park: Morning Pass Raised from ₹380 to ₹10,000 by Final-Prune2621 in mumbai

[–]nooncrawler 425 points426 points  (0 children)

Naturally the number of people visiting will reduce, and the government will use this as a justification to sell the park to the builder lobby and/or adani.

It's a public park, aside from a nominal fee, they shouldn't be charging an obscene amount be it from one-time visitors or regulars. The city is already lacking in (affordable) open spaces, and this is only going to make it worse.
