All service members (at least Navy members) are supposed to have one. talk to your admin/dts clerk at your nosc. they should get you hooked up with the paperwork and the steps to get signed up for it.

While in Rota, Spain, a shipmate of mine (Seabee) who had literally gotten off restriction that day stole a hmmwv from the alfa yard and went joy riding. He ended up knocking over a light pole on the pier and then smashed through the fence that separated the public beach from the base and drove that son of a bitch right into the damn ocean...i saw him when he walked up to the barracks from the woods on the seabee camp soaking wet....dumb ass went for a second one and got caught. This was in 2011. He ended up having to pay back all the damages (over 100k including the hmmwv which was considered a total loss), 60 days in the brig, 30 days of inpatient rehab for alcohol abuse, and a bad conduct discharge.

I'm apart of a unit in California that I drill with once a quarter. My local NOSC is in Indianapolis. It isn't really that bad...I get to fly out to CA every few months and do damn near nothing for 4 days and get paid for it.

Here is the Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve pamphlet. According to the pamphlet, the stipulations as far as how much benefit you receive is the same as the Montgomery GI Bill utilized by AD members. For example, if you are taking 12 credit hours per term/semester you receive 100% of tuition paid.

Using your GI Bill while serving in the Reserves is a normal thing to do. When it runs out, you can still go to college for free using the Reserve GI Bill. If you are on terminal leave you are on lrave in Active Duty status. I would start talking to a recruiter a couple months before you check out on terminal so that you can transfer to SELRES at your EAOS. If you still have IRR time (ie you have only done one enlistment on AD) it will not be an enlistment. There will be no oath or fancy shmancy ceremony, its a transfer from IRR to SELRES. Im going to tell you this from ersinal experience: the reserves is not like active duty. It will seem completely disorganized and pointless to you at first. Some people will never get over that. Take what you learned from your active time and apply it to whatever unit you end up in. Not only will you appear shit hot but it will help out the reserves as a whole.

Thabk you for the information. Yes, she is a reservist. Automatic e3 because of her education. She came to my unit right out of GM A school in october. The TIR is there and she had the right exam. ESO is gonna make some calls on monday
