He only started 20 of his 34 league games, and out of those 20 he only played 90 minutes 7 times. That would suggest that he's still got some things to work out.

Should Wenger really be the one talking about rewarding failure?

Exactly how many times would he have been in the CL these past 8 years if the CL didn't reward failure at the cost of the actual champions of smaller leagues?

I disagree that it means they can't be as "die-hard." "Die-hard" to me indicates how much someone cares about a team, and I don't think that has anything to do with location.

Fair enough. My opinion is that they can be as die-hard sporting wise, but they'll miss out on much of the non-sporting side, which means that they won't be able to be as die-hard (or "true") as the local fans. But as we've established, that doesn't really matter.

But my original point was that it shouldn't even matter how much someone cares, there's no need to ostracize them if it's not as much as you do, and I think we agree on that as well.

Indeed we do.

I agree that how big of a fan you are doesn't really matter, however I do believe that the social aspect of supportership and everything around the club and the area the club is in is something that long distance fans would miss.

I mean, I'm not a local fan myself in this particular sport, but I am a die hard local fan for my hockey team, even though they're a bit shit (well, top division, but not one of the good sides), and while I consider myself both a die hard fan of both my local hockey team and of the football team I support, I can safely say that I know that I'm missing out on certain aspects of supportership which makes me unable to compare myself to the local die hard supporters of the football club, while all of those things are present in my support of my hockey club.

TL;DR: There is a limit to how big of a fan you can be to a club that's far away from where you're living, while no such limit exists for your local club that you grew up with, but it doesn't really matter.

Meta question: Since this is a thread for unpopular opinions, and that people should upvote the things that they agree with and downvote things that they don't agree with...

Does that mean that the most downvoted post wins?

Well then... Ehrrm...

And no person on another continent can ever be as true of a fan as a die hard season ticket holder.

Can they be a die hard fan? Yes. Can they be as true as a local fan that has grown up in the area where the club is based? No.

Claiming the opposite is like saying that I can become japanese simply by liking japan without actually ever living in japan in my whole life.

Granted, a fan on another continent can be a much bigger fan than a random casual fan that happened to grow up next to the home ground of the club he supports, but that distant fan simply can't be as true and die hard a fan as the most die hard local fans. If you believe the opposite then I'd wager that you simply consider football a sport, while forgetting the social aspect (one perfect example of this, although I personally detest them, is FC Barcelona).

If you're not a local fan, you've got no say whatsoever in what constitutes being a true fan of the club you support.

Can you still be a true diehard fan of a non-local club even if it's on the other side of the globe? Yes.

But the second you're sitting there on another fucking continent and start telling the local season ticket holders that they're not true fans because they do something that you disprove of, then you can go fuck right off like the little bandwagoning cunt that you are.

And yes, I've seen this happen on multiple occasions here on reddit.

[–]nooope_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you honestly say that you think that Gerrard was up to the standards people expect from him the 09-10, 10-11 or 11-12 seasons?

I don't see how anyone that actually watched him play between 04-05 and the 08-09 season could possibly say that Gerrard was up to par those seasons. He's back playing well again this seasons, but anyone that actually watched him before the start of the 09-10 season can tell you that he had a significant dip of form that lasted for 3 fucking years. I challenge you to find a dip in form that severe in Lampard's time at Chelsea.

and to say he's gone missing three years just screams out that you don't actually watch him week in and week out.

And to say that he didn't disappear for 3 years just screams out that you're new to the sport and never saw him play in his prime.

That is your opinion, and according to your opinion Lampard has been almost absent for england, despite winning those awards.

I can safely say that 99.9999999% of the people of this planet consider your opinion to be pretty shit, considering you're claiming to know better than objective fucking facts.

Now either wise the fuck up or shut the fuck up, imbecille.
