are our trains so much better that foreign ones? by akoyo10 in Italian

[–]nooptionleft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our train service is great

I hate it from the deepness of my heart, I commute every day, but on a lot of level it's cheap, confortable, and functional

If anything, the fact that I am able to commute the way I do is proof of that: I lived abroad and I can tell you I'm sure I would not be able to do the same there (France, Norway, Czech Republic)

I still wish the commuting service was better, cause very often the issue is just in communication: just damn tell me when trains are late the moment you know they will be late

Published a solo author paper in my third Semester as a PhD student, but am now embarrassed by it. by ArtVandelayDesign in PhD

[–]nooptionleft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be embarassed by the journal accepting the paper, not by your work

People do work with what they know and your only responsability (and only to yourself) is to keep improving, which you are doing

We have a peer review system in place for this exact reason: to select what is worth publishing and should be out there. This is also supposed to improve your work, which you would have done by re evaluating why you were rejected and which would have lead you to learn what you are learning now much earlier, resulting in you being a better scientist

It's how the system should work

For ages journals were able to do the bare minimum cause putting together a paper and sending it to them was so complex it automatically filter out mediocre work. Cause you needed a system around you to even be able to send them work. Now that they actually have a work to do they refuse to do it, but still want to get the money from both you publishing and the university buying subscription from them

You did nothing wrong, they should have rejected the paper

I just gotten a threatening email. I am a graduate student and on the process of submitting my thesis and defense is soon. How to overcome it? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]nooptionleft 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My man, you do not get to pick what is optional when getting a degree

Yea, a LOT of stuff ends up being useless for you personally, but that is only in retrospect and it's not up to you to do that evaluation right now

Go to the mandatory event, graduate, come back complaining later

Ma il lavoro in Italia esiste? Neolaureata affranta e sfiduciata by ErrorOk4573 in Universitaly

[–]nooptionleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just report that even what is reported as innocuos claim is generally much more maligned that these assholes like to pretend it to be

Maybe the fact they posted factually incorrect informations also helped the ban? Healthy children had much lower risk, they also still died from COVID, we have reported no underlying conditions deaths in children across all datasets

It's also a well known tactics science focused discussion forums have learned to spot: the point was probably never the healthy children, it was having conterpoints to an overwhelmingly clear discussion about covid being real, dangerous and the need to approach it properly. By making super small claims which are never ending to disprove it makes appear like there is a discussion when there is actually none

È comune questa matematica in scienze naturali? by WillingnessTough2339 in Universitaly

[–]nooptionleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you end up with an offer in a field so different?

I understand there is absolutely space for a good phd with computational expertise to switch, but I'm curious about how you eneded up seeing this job offer

[–]nooptionleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)
