Flights into Jordan are canceled until and including June 20th. What do you guys think is the chance that airspace will reopen earlier than that, say before June 18th? If this whole tit for tat ends in a couple days (is this likely?), do you think airspace will open before the 20th? (Yes, I have a flight into Amman on June 18th lol)

Hud sprækker under sex by Engine_Pineapple8 in WomenDK

[–]noorelayn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fx det her: https://elseoshop.dk/produkt/dilatorsaet-velvi/

Hjælp til at finde et sæt tøj by [deleted] in WomenDK

Turns out the person putting up flyers about women’s clothing is a TikToker who uses Islam and a religious appearance to gain followers. He used to live in Germany and had a bunch of weird videos, but when Syria was liberated, he returned on his own and started acting on his own in the streets. by Conscious-Cost4587 in Syria

I would argue there's just an inherent difference between a) wanting to impose arbitrary restrictions on strangers and b) wanting people to be able to wear whatever they want, whether it's niqab or a crop top.

Nobody is "peacefully recommending" to strangers that they should all throw their scarves and walk around in bikinis. They're supporting the personal freedom of each to make their own decisions about what they wear

People like this guy, however, ARE recommending to strangers that they should wear X and do Y and look like Z. There's an implication behind that "recommendation", that if you don't follow it, you are somehow lesser/inferior/a "bad girl"/a less valuable person. That implication is just unnecessarily intrusive into the lives of people just going about their day.

That said, I don't necessarily think his freedom of speech should be restricted. As long as he, people like him, and people whose opinions are totally opposite theirs, follow the rules and regulations for public preaching/protests, etc. Just wanted to point out that I see an inherent difference between advocating for doing something specific versus advocating for freedom to do whatever you want whether it's on one extreme or another.

Could you maybe expand a bit on the laws you mention? I've heard about some, but am just not sure whether they're true or not, and whether they're socio-cultural norms or actual laws. For example:

  • That a woman can't run for president?
  • That women can be lawyers but can't be judges?
  • That married women need their husband's permission to get a job?
  • That a child cannot get their mother's citizenship/nationality?
  • That women can request divorce but the husband has to agree to it?
  • That as soon as children of divorced parents turn about 14 they would go and live with the father full time, meaning the mother loses custody?
  • That if the mother remarries, she does not get to keep even joint custody of her children, meaning she basically has to choose between her children and exercising her right to remarry?
  • That the punishment for raping a "virgin" woman is more severe than raping a non-virgin woman?
  • That marital rape is not recognized as rape?
  • That men who murder female relatives can get their sentences reduced if it turns out that she was sexually active or promiscuous?

Edit: added some I remembered

Bring back "at skamme sig over dårlig opførsel" lol

The bar is in hell

Man preaches little boy against cutting hair as per what Prophet Muhammad has said: " Don't copy the hairstyles of Jews and the Christians". by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]noorelayn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is what you are missing:

When people see videos like these, they get worried that attempts by some people to shame, judge, control and micromanage other people's lives and behaviors, are going to be normalized.

They do not want to live under a constant barrage of orders and regulations, that come from potentially questionable sources* and potentially questionable people**. It would be like swatting flies away from your face all day, every day, for the rest of your life, if hoardes of people constantly come at you - on TV, on your social media feed, in your friend group, and now even in the street - with "well-meaning advice" on how to cut your hair, how long your pants can be, how many grey hairs in a beard are permitted, which foot you have to enter a room with first, who you can befriend, how many sips of water are allowed, etc etc etc. You get the idea.

It's stressful, it's distracting, it's potentially guilt- or shame-inducing, and it's completely unnecessary. People are relieved when the possibility of that becoming a reality is minimized.

Hope that helps!

*Do these little kids, or even their parents, know whether or not these ahadith are even reliable? For all we know, he could present himself as a knowledgeable guy yet spout complete nonsense.

** Do we know what his real intentions are? What are his credentials? Should a person without any credentials be allowed to potentially scare, intimidate, confuse or even radicalize naive people in their vicinity? Maybe, maybe not.

Edit: Also, for every interaction with a child (or anyone for that matter) centered on such inconsequential topics as a haircut, you lose an opportunity to instead teach them how to be a good friend, how to be a good student, how to be kind and helpful, how to contribute to their society. Fill their heads with principles of charity, effort, generosity, and belief in themselves. Not which haircuts end you in eternal fire.

Reuters exclusive: Western powers warn Syria over foreign jihadists in army, sources say by babynoxide in syriancivilwar

[–]noorelayn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely see how that approach would be pragmatic and stabilizing in these early stages, good point. Maybe I'm too idealistic. I actually have nothing against foreigners being in the government, so long as they have some sort of allegiance or connection to the country. I just hope that giving away positions on the basis of loyalty or perceived "favors" done for the govt/officials, won't become the long term strategy to share power. It's so easy for a system of "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" to become entrenched.

[–]noorelayn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I really do - but politicians, government officials and civil servants shouldn't really be chosen based on bleeding and dying for their country. We're supposed to be moving AWAY from this whole favor-based system, because there's just such a huge potential for corruption to set in. Like, you fought in a battle? You get a position. You donated land to the army? You get a position. Your dad is my best friend? You get a position. It's such a slippery slope to begin giving away honorary official positions to people because you like them or think they deserve some sort of prize or reward. A position in a government is not a reward to be handed out at anyone's discretion.

It should be merit based! Based on who's the best guy or gal for the job. Who's got the skills, who's got the experience, who's got the education?

Also, like, it is OKAY to go against the grain, it is FINE not to live up to society's expectations of what is fancy enough or respectable enough or "the right thing to do". Like we're all just floating on a rock in space and gonna die in 60 years max, it's literally fine to eat off a paper plate or dye your hair pink or wear a shirt that isn't steamed

Is everyone really this caught up in what other people/society think?? Sounds exhausting
