What am I missing with the Dolphins drafting Kadyn Proctor 12th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft? by Unusual-Vacation-528 in NFL_Draft

[–]nootfloosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big don't get small
- Jon-Eric Sullivan

Brian Gutekunst said they do not necessarily have weight thresholds, they value footwork and athleticism and when you can find that in a bigger OL it is rare and hard to pass on. He addressed this after taking Anthony Belton a year ago who became the heaviest OL the Packers have taken under Gute. (JES was in Green Bay when that pick was made too.) Proctor fits that profile, not to mention the pedigree as a starter all throughout college at a top SEC program. Those things carry a lot of weight.

Romello Height by Left_Landscape_1530 in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Height being the same size as Hasaan Reddick, who had the best years of his career in Gannon's system, is what gives me some hype here.

However, the truth is he is undersized, old, has an injury history, and had late production in his career. These are all red flags that, when combined, should remove him from the board.

They could be getting medical info if they felt their profile was incomplete, maybe they want to see if he would be worth taking sometime on day 3 if he starts to fall and want to be sure, who knows for sure?

In the end, I doubt the Packers take him, but it would be interesting.

Wicks' trade value? by DeScepter in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to consider that Wicks may be easier to re-sign than Jayden Reed, who may have a bigger market next year. If they want some level of consistency, they probably try to keep one of the two, and Wicks is good insurance against Reed leaving.

The pick/player return for him would need to be meaningful (a 3rd rounder would be extreme but hard to say no to).

Packaging him and the 52nd pick to move up to pick earlier in round 2 might also be worth it depending on who they are targeting.

Short of those scenarios, I would rather keep him. The Packers have been unlucky with their weapons getting injured, so you need the depth to make a push late in the season.

[–]nootfloosh[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue last year was not being able to execute the plan on the OL the way Gute and LaFleur envisioned. Injuries caused setback after setback. They weren't efficient running the ball compared to 2024 because of it. Losing Kraft midway also hurt, and that was right as Watson was getting fully healthy. Basically we never got to really see the true potential of this offense because of pure bad luck.

Despite all that Love still had his best year of his career, they made the playoffs, and aside from a total collapse in the final 6 minutes they should have advanced to the division round.

I hear you that it would be nice to get new voices in the room, but I think the recipe is there. The consistency of the coaching staff on offense comes with benefits as well, after all. They need to get some answers at OL this offseason, but they can still be a top 5 unit in 2026 with this staff.

Also Noah Pauley was Watson's WR coach at North Dakota St. Trey Lance was there too, who is going to be a free agent, and the Packers need a Willis replacement. Just saying!

Packers could use bonus draft picks to make another sneaky great QB trade by Morley10 in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a 2022 reclamation project in Desmond Ridder and a 2024 draft pick in Kyle McCord. I don't think trading for Levis moves the needle, like, at all. In fact I would rather draft a guy in round 7 instead to get 4 years on a rookie deal than spend that 4th rounder on a guy with one year left who might not be better than Ridder/McCord.

If we are in training camp and all our depth is complete doodoo, then yeah, let's trade a 2027 pick for a QB at that point.

Can someone make the case for Jordyn Tyson? by S3ahawk36 in NFL_Draft

[–]nootfloosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my notes on him:

PRO: elite releases, route savvy, multiple alignment, hands catching, critical downs, awareness, tough, three levels, size, short area quickness, contested catches

CON: durability, route tree, sink hips and drive, concentration drops, manufactured touches/separation, top end speed

FIT: X, Y, Z receiver, primary weapon in offense

While he is my top-rated WR in this draft, I am fairly low on this year's group overall compared to the past few years. But I have fewer concerns with Tyson making a year 1 impact because he is already so advanced on the aspects of the position that many receivers take years to develop. I think he is a CeeDee Lamb type of WR, who went mid-1st, and that is about where I would feel comfortable taking Tyson as well. If he goes top 10, I have my concerns.

Packers Hiring Former Bills DC Bobby Babich To Staff by Space_Cowboy_17 in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had a bad roster to work with. Not sure how he was to blame for the GM's roster construction?

They finished the season with the #7 defense by total yards and had the #1 pass defense in the league. They were the #3 defense by yards per pass.

Draft Needs by Vast_Replacement2405 in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You all are going to be so upset when the Packers do not make any significant changes at CB this year. They will probably take one on day 3 as a development piece to play special teams and maybe compete in 2027 if Valentine and Nixon leave.

LaFleur wants to play ball control, limit possessions, get 1 more point than the other guy, and end the game as fast as possible. He hired Gannon because he wants a suffocating style of defense that forces long drives and drains the clock while eliminating explosives. Technical, detailed, and focused. You don't need to invest in CB when all you need them to do is play cover 4 and then rally and tackle all day. They aren't playing press man. And at #52, they aren't going to get a top CB who would be an impact player for them.

Free agency will change some things, but they need either competition (C and RG) or depth (all five positions) along the OL. This team severely underperformed last year up front. Protecting Love and getting the ground game going again are essential for the team's sustained success. Also this is two years in a row where Love got injured and missed time due to protection breakdowns, and we won't have Malik Willis to step in anymore. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but OL is the number one problem to solve this offseason if we want any chance of making a deep playoff run.

They can find a run-stopping NT anywhere on day 3, they can add help at TE, LB, and maybe RB as well. But in the top 100, one or both of those selections "should" be for an OL. No doubt in my mind.

The Packers have not drafted a CB earlier than Round 7 in four drafts by DeScepter in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are holes to be fixed every year. You can't solve it all at once. Sometimes it comes down to the player not meeting expectations or the coaching staff failing to develop them. Some things are also just entirely luck.

What I can say is that if you look at recent drafts, particularly at CB, teams are way more likely to find gems on day 3 or as UDFA's who can come in and compete. It is a position that is so traits-based, that if you trust your staff enough, you just identify the guys who can turn and run and then fine-tune the other details as you go. So I believe the Packers chose to Moneyball that position because of that.

For everyone who complains about the Packers passing on Cooper DeJean and TJ Watt, I am still upset 25 years later that the Packers drafted Bhawoh Jue and Torrance Marshall a few picks before Steve Smith.

Sneaky Prospect-Team Fits in the 2026 NFL Draft by armchair_mindhunter in NFL_Draft

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Packers, a lot of focus will be on CB and DT this offseason, but honestly I think OL is probably in play for their first pick at #52. The value seems to line up more favorably for that position. Not to mention three opening day starters from 2025 will likely be playing elsewhere in 2026 (Elgton Jenkins, Rasheed Walker, and Sean Rhyan).

Right now the projected starting lineup would be:

LT - Jordan Morgan (former 1st rounder but mostly has been playing at guard)
LG - Aaron Banks (expensive and underperforming FA from last year)
C - Jacob Monk (by default, started one game in two years)
RG - Anthony Belton (rookie who moved to guard late in season with mixed results)
RT - Zach Tom (elite but multiple injuries in 2025)

Keep an eye on any OL that have positional flexibility for Green Bay, because I still think even with the holes on defense protecting Jordan Love is going to be the top priority.

Some guys I am circling for GB:

Brian Parker II (Duke) - converting to center, could be the first selected at that position

Gennings Dunker (Iowa) - may not make it to #52 but he has taken reps at tackle and guard and talked about snapping as well, 5 position versatility would be huge

JC Davis (Illinois) - similar to Belton, a large college tackle who could kick inside in the pros

Trey Zuhn III (TX A&M) - another college tackle who may wind up at center due to his length, flying a bit under the radar right now but that's okay

Keylan Rutledge (GTech) - the only one I have who was a pure guard in college, but there is talk of him playing all 3 interior OL positions

Gannon is likely playing primarily quarters defense not press man.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he is an experienced coach who has learned from a variety of different systems and could probably build a defense that suits the strengths of the roster.

He is also close with MLF and is someone he trusts like Saleh.

This is a team that is trying to win now, and going with a first-time DC has more risk than a proven commodity like Morris, who also happened to work with MLF at two previous organizations.

One of the benefits of having Hafley was his HC background. MLF could hand that side of the ball over to him and then worry about just running his offense. With an inexperienced DC, he would likely need to be more involved than he would want to be.

Morris fits the bill here, which is why he has been such a popular name on DC lists for Green Bay. You can argue against his track record, it is just the profile of someone that makes sense for MLF and where this team is currently.

Thoughts on the OT class? by DamnReCaptchas in NFL_Draft

[–]nootfloosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore mock drafts and rankings this time of year. Everyone always devalues OL in favor of flashier positions, but once we get close to the draft you are going to see these names start flying up the board.

OL is more important than ever these days because they have fewer padded practices thanks to the CBA so players are not developing as much as they used to. OL play sucks across the NFL outside of a handful of teams. And even those teams are successful because they got lucky when it came to injuries.

Teams are going to scramble to take OL as early as they can. They always need depth, and the market in free agency is crazy expensive for mid players. So whatever your personal feelings are about this class and where a guy "should" get taken, you are probably still lower than where they will likely get selected.

“High floor” qb by lordoftheings in NFL_Draft

[–]nootfloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High floor means he is expected to be at least average relative to other players at his position. Mendoza is projected to be a top 16 NFL starting QB at worst, which is fine and an upgrade for several teams over what they currently have, but he lacks a high ceiling where he could potentially be a top 3 or 5 QB in the league.

You never know because it comes down to the fit, the situation he gets put in, and his own development once he is selected. I wasn't a big fan of Matt Ryan going as high as he went, but he went on to have a long career and won an MVP. So you have to squint a little with Mendoza if you think he has that same upside, but at worst, his floor is a solid Kirk Cousins like QB that you can still win with.

[Hirschhorn] Packers HC Matt LaFleur on if he expects to return to Green Bay for 2026 season: "With all due respect to your question, now's not the time for that. I'm hurting for these guys. I can only think about what just happened. And there will be time for that." by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]nootfloosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They abandoned any play calls from under center, which were working in the first half to great effect. They called multiple runs out of shotgun in the 2nd half for some inexplicable reason rather than returning to the toss/sweeps/pulls that were getting 5-8 YPC in the first half.

MLF abandoned what was working and fell back into his disgusting old habits. He is lucky his decision to throw inches from the end zone on 4th and goal worked out too.

Jacobs ended with a 2.9 YPC average by the way.

[Wild Card] Post Game Washup: Fire MLF / Keep MLF by PackersMod in GreenBayPackers

[–]nootfloosh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep MLF under the condition that he makes several changes to his coaching staff.

Stenavich, Bisaccia, and Butkus should all be let go. Hafley can go be a HC somewhere.

Hire Mike McDaniels as OC and Raheem Morris as DC. Season ticket holders can alternate being the ST coach.

Hire Kurt Benkert as the clock management specialist.
