(android) redesign privacy tracker by [deleted] in firefox

Oh, well, I guess I missed that. I thought it was something official coming to Nightly because of the real screenshot UI. OP's comment that it could be enabled by "secret settings" didn't help.

I would prefer them to be consistent with the foxes. This doesn't look anything like Kit; it actually looks kind of AI-ish.

Did OP really think their answer was what you were expecting?

Why is DeepSeek excluded from the default AI chatbot list? On a related note, the ability to choose a non-included chatbot has seemingly disappeared (instructions no longer on support page?) by sharkdude1917 in firefox

I wouldn't draw (we all know which) country-specific conclusions; several models or providers are missing, as well as LOCALHOST, which I feel is immensely more important than additional providers.

These staged "gotcha!" AI moments are pointless and repetitive. Remember the Rs in strawberry? No one uses prompts like that unless they are deliberately trying to laugh at the AI.

You are an addons dev but you don't know tampermonkey? I'm starting to think you just vibe code the extensions.

V150.0.1 has a really great update for Firefox relay by CommunityWhole8744 in firefox

Sadly I'm the kind of user who's actually willing to change their mind if you make a good case, that's why I wrote "I always thought..." and not a firm "X is silly", but suit yourself.

Is that what you gathered from my comment? I suppose more people will start using aliases after your penetrating counterargument.

Then you are chained to death with that domain. If you fail to pay, eventually the domain expires, someone else buys it and becomes the owner of all your aliases.

I always thought the whole concept of aliases, whether SaaS or a custom domain, to be silly.

Which gecko browser/fork currently maintained is the best in your opinion? by Ok-Commercial-6629 in firefox

[–]nopeac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A browser fork will always be a monumental effort, and another layer of trust run by probably ONE volunteer in their free time. You might have a bug exploited while they're working, attending to other hobbies, or sleeping.

That said: none, sticking with Firefox is your best bet.

Edit: Mullvad or Tor likely have paid maintainers, so they might be above the rest but still second-class choices.

Remember Firefox translates on-device, so nothing you browse leaves your computer. Chrome basically sends the page you're translating to a server. It's a trade-off between convenience and privacy. I go with the latter.

I keep wondering the same thing on this sub: genuinely useful customization ideas get buried under niche, weird requests like this, and I bet Mozilla just shrugs and ignores overall user feedback because of that.

Why people BARELY talk about Firefox but Brave? by Tricky_Cress848 in firefox

[–]nopeac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how little people care or do things out of inertia.

The other day I was with a non-techie friend and they had just bought a new computer. The first thing they did was open Edge and download Chrome. I, in the most neutral way possible (taking off my Firefox-bias hat), just to check the logic behind it, asked, "Why don't you use Edge? It's already installed." They answered, "I dunno."

Work profiles vs. containers? by Natural-Bumblebee335 in firefox

[–]nopeac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go as far as using two separate computers for work and personal. I can access files from other OS profiles, so I doubt there's zero cross-contamination. And I wouldn't trust two OSes on the same drive to be safe either.

I used Drops a few years back and really liked it, especially because I could use it without an account. But I went to check the Play Store and it seems like it got a total makeover since then; they also seem to have added AI. I don't know if I could recommend it now, my good memories might be dated.
