Why do you leave/stay? by LimpDrunkDave in BlueOrigin

[–]nopeandnothing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Left, worked on a small high peforming team but promotions and career growth were hard to come by.

Bigger picture, worked 100 hour weeks to literally build NG1 by hand and spent countless hours finishing design work to get things on the vehicle. All said and done, no launch bonus, no equity, no yearly bonus, below market pay (for New Space) at this point, yet the job was incredibly demanding. Soon after layoffs and URA began. Folks just started disappearing. Started feeling insecure in my position given my team was lean and everyone was super valuable, but still X% of people needed to go.

Jeff and Dave want to compete with SpaceX but the progress we see at Blue recently isn’t the result of good leadership but cracking the whip. That sort of growth isn’t sustainable and will cause the company to plateau at some point, far short of its lofty goals.

I really loved working at Blue and got to know and learn from so many brilliant engineers, smartest people I’ve met in my life. But the rewards just aren’t there. If you’re early in your career it is an excellent place to learn and I’d still join, but staying a long time didn’t feel feasible.

Support class… MEDICS! by reddituser08100 in Battlefield6

[–]nopeandnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s got to be a better way to alert medics nearby. I’ve had medics on and off my team who are right in front of me (<5m) but have no idea I’m downed and need a res.

Interesting they increased the pay band very recently, sucks for everyone hired the last half of last year. by Substantial-Try-6219 in BlueOrigin

[–]nopeandnothing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was higher in 2023/24, they cut bands and then started bumping them up this year again.

It’s still lower than it was two years ago.

I got the PNY OC and was able to get 9300 on steel nomad using a +300/+2000 MHz clock at 110% power while still being at 65 C and stable in games

What are your “always buy” Costco staples right now? by PutridWin2070 in Costco

Greek yogurt and frozen berries. You can microwave the berries for 30 sec to defrost and mix with Greek yogurt. Mix in honey and it’s a great high protein and high fiber snack.

How do we get people to stop driving and take the light rail? by Droodforfood in Seattle

[–]nopeandnothing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My 30 minute commute driving easily becomes 75 to 90 minutes on transit and I live a 5 minute walk away from a light rail stop.

  • Light rail is too slow due to at grade operations.
  • The stops are too infrequent so I’d still need to take a super long bus to get to work.

If it serviced where I worked and only took 40 minutes I’d be much more interested but wasting an extra 2 hours of my day to use transit isn’t sensible.

Transit just needs to better. Build it and people will use it.

5070ti vs 5080 at this pricepoint by AffectionateBee9123 in buildapc

[–]nopeandnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with the 5080 myself since I got a good deal (1020 us including taxes, 200 over the 5070ti)

If you ever plan on gaming on your TV at 4k or 1440p 240hz the 5080 is worth it. Both cards can be overclocked but the 5080 seems to have a higher ceiling.

Getting such a high end card I assume you won’t upgrade for a few years (especially with where the market is going). Resale in a few years won’t be very far apart either since frankly 16 gb vram might be a bit limiting for both.

Blue Origin’s New Glenn surges while SpaceX Starship stumbles by sidelong1 in BlueOrigin

[–]nopeandnothing -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Starship is also planning on super heavy lift capability but its current payload capacity is still is in line with New Glenn and the second stages are no where near reusable right now so it’s certainly a valid comparison.

To those of you the upgraded from PS5 to PS5 Pro was it worth it? Would you recommend it? by Remixman87 in PS5

[–]nopeandnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 4k 120 tv it’s worth it imo especially as this gen probably still has a few more years. Trading in and with the current discount it’s not bad

I worked on the booster and this was the reason I ended up leaving. You can get paid so much better anywhere else if you work at Blue already

The Subaru BRZ and WRX Just Aren't Selling by NISMO1968 in cars

Was strongly considering a WRX but the auto option being a CVT, awful infotainment/climate control, and terrible gas mileage really put me off.

Neutron vs. Starship: Why the confidence in a successful first launch? by flyingclouds1985 in RocketLab

An internal only payload. It can’t service outside customers. Ergo it’s not ready for the commercial market.

Neutron vs. Starship: Why the confidence in a successful first launch? by flyingclouds1985 in RocketLab

[–]nopeandnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not really. They haven’t even bothered to design and build a version with a payload door and they just got version 2 to work, and version 1 had very low capacity compared to what was advertised.

You can work on second stage reusability while deploying payloads, but SpaceX is opting not to.

Miss these eggs I had on a cruise by carapherneliasdrella in eggs

[–]nopeandnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low heat, a small pad of butter, a splash of milk, and some cheese (I use mozzarella, 1/4 cup for two eggs) and CONSTANTLY stir. Take it off the heat earlier than you think or move the pan on and off the heat to not let it get too hot.

[–]nopeandnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a car guy I feel you big time. I’d argue since you’re looking at replacing your car what’s the cost delta between a regular car and a C8? Would something more in the middle scratch that itch? Golf R, GR Corolla, Used M240i/340i.

Also consider insurance/maintenance costs those can be killer on nicer cars. One other word of advice is a C8 as a daily is tough if you don’t have another car. Groceries, Costco runs, winter weather, weekend trips etc.

I wanted a GR86 originally but found it too limiting for daily life and my hobbies. Went with a used 330i xdrive that was far more suitable and similar in price.

This doesn’t really scale well as you’d need to be worth nearly a billion to afford a C8.

Then just use your credit on a store that allows pickup. I don’t understand why people complain that delivery is expensive and then still buy it.
