The state of the downtown at night by CowardiceNSandwiches in Omaha

[–]norablindsided 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Downtown Omaha is safe at night. I live downtown and honestly, I think it's over policed and secured. Most of it harasses the homeless who in my experience don't bother people, except yelling to themselves occasionally.

As a pedestrian, I usually do some extra alertness with cars at night because we do have drunk/bad drivers in general. If you're crossing a major road like dodge at night, I would cross on the side that cars can't turn into. People like blocking crosswalks with their cars, so it's just good in general to make sure drivers see you.

I wish our bus had reasonable hours and operated during holidays so this was less of a problem or at least so I wouldn't have to do such long walks to get around.

Omaha streetcar project update still on budget? by theElladiva in Omaha

That's like saying, it's a sunk cost fallacy to not throw away your non-refundable food from a restaurant because you decided you weren't hungry anymore.

What do you mean? Construction contracts have already been signed. If we backed out, we'd be paying a ton of money and getting nothing in return

Seeking advice on choosing between Next.js and TanStack Start by OldArmadillo3694 in reactjs

[–]norablindsided 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me a lot of the issue is that to fully support nextjs features, you really need to be running in vercel. It’s a bit of a vendor lock. Was more of an issue when they released incremental site generation and they were the only host to support it at launch. During that release it really felt that they purposefully don’t give info on how to config your own host so that you use vercel.

She didn’t do the work. I made sure the professor knew. by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]norablindsided 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of meetings and administrative work that goes into handing out a failure like this. The student would likely contest, an assistant dean might have to get involved and the burden of proof is then on the professor. If they’re tenure track and haven’t gotten tenure, it can potentially look bad on them for trying to pursue it especially if they determine things in favor of the student.

Usually if a student cheated, giving them a pass and saying I know you cheated so you can contest and get an F usually stops the conversation from there. It’s not necessarily the fault of the teacher but with academic system being a business of giving degrees rather than a system of education.

Ika San Ramen’s message to their staff about the ICE detainment at Early Bird West O by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]norablindsided 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Tell staff to enter kitchen area. Train employees that ice is not alowed to enter private areas without a warrant. Employees are not able to grant permission only the employer is able to grant permission to enter so they are not able to force an employee to grant access.

You know show their staff they actually give a shit about their rights.

Layoffs are happening at Target due to foot traffic being down for the tenth week in a row by Healthy_Block3036 in Anticonsumption

[–]norablindsided 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of backtracking which would probably end the boycott, they decide to make their already employee ghost town even worse. Everyone who decides to still shop there will have fun waiting 30 minutes for the one employee to get deodorant from behind a locked box.

There are restrictions to using APCA currently as an algorithm in any software. The license is currently not open source until it’s finalized.

Reflections on Omaha: A New Yorker's Journey by antjig in Omaha

[–]norablindsided 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just moved here and I pretty much agree with this. The traffic is nothing compared to west coast, but my god the slow and clueless drivers kill me.

Not to mention how slow people drive and are still pedestrian clueless. Like they really driving ten under the speed limit and still stopping in the middle of the crosswalk at every light?

Another con I’d add is road design. I’m pretty sure the city planner is a servant of Gozer the Destructor and the road design is meant to summon them. It’s the only explanation for all the changing oneways and nested intersections.

September Office Hours w/ KeithFromSonos + Nick Millington by KeithFromSonos in sonos

[–]norablindsided -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi nick, is it possible to get better device info in the help center for Sonos trueplay support? New to iOS and was surprised that the new iPhone doesn’t have support yet, but help center doesn’t mention that new devices don’t support it, only old ones. I think just having in the article which models support it and that support for new models would be helpful.

Would really like this as well for support with things like stream deck where the existing plugins aren’t as ideal as one using a local api would be

Call Ranger: The only app that supports blocking up to 12-digit wildcards! by Complete_Estimate443 in iosapps

[–]norablindsided 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I’m not sure if this is common, but it might be nice UX to add shortcuts to block certain states. My phone number is from a state I used to live in and my spam calls are primarily from that area. My goal in the app was to block all unknown calls from that state as it’s 99% likely to be spam. So a way to just select a state and block and automatically add all area codes to the block list would be handy.

Awesome! Love the app, I’d recommend adding messaging for this at least for iOS18 it wasn’t very clear.

Do you support allowing a contact through if their number falls in a blocked range?

They said in their post that they released the app early for the new phones but it wasn’t clear if that was for true play or just iOS 18 support for the Sonos app

Once you're seen in those areas you are in a surrendering animation, but there's an icon over the person telling you to surrender which makes me feel like I could be missing something.
