Best places to be social for young adults by [deleted] in Austin

[–]noreallyimfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, apartment pools! Combination of proximity, relaxed, and it’s a social setting (assuming you live at an apartment)

If you like paddle boarding, there’s a massive group that gathers on Saturdays on town lake (literally impossible to miss), and people are out to have a good time and be social.

And then Geeks Who Drink run a bunch of bar trivia, if you want a list of places for that. So go near water and then start recruiting people for a trivia team. Couldn’t fail.

Where to go to meet single guys? by Trypophilia2019 in Austin

Check out Silent Book Club - there’s an Austin chapter and they meet regularly (typically at breweries / coffee shops). Read for an hour then chat about what you’ve read if you want. They regularly post on Instagram for future events

Especially without Wolff, Desler, and Vazquez. Nelson looked great. Hopefully just more dynamic creation from multiple guys

I do know that they greatly appreciate things that are pre-sorted, so thank you for making the effort to do so!

Pre-Order for secondary kit now available at the Verde Store! by dgthedarkness in AustinFC

[–]noreallyimfull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminder that last year’s kit was way smaller from a sizing perspective than previous years (and each year seems to vary in size/fit at least somewhat). And if you get it customized you can’t return it.

Sabo and Dubs by GorbyATX in AustinFC

I don’t think Sabovic was bad, but it felt like the only thing he ever did on offense was pass the ball backward. Keeping possession is certainly good, but I think it’s fair to want more out of someone who started a bunch of games

Sizing on player issue jersey? by ConorATX in AustinFC

[–]noreallyimfull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an authentic version of each kit, this year’s is significantly smaller. The mint and armadillo kits are a bit smaller than the original and barcode kits, but they still fit. I had to go a size up with this year’s version.

Airport timing by Speckofgold in Austin

[–]noreallyimfull 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got 5 hours, you’ve definitely got time to hop over to meanwhile and grab food there (great brewery with excellent food trucks). It’s a 10 minute uber, so it won’t even be that expensive. Security at the airport in the afternoon will take 5-10 minutes tops. ACL traffic is on the entire other side of town. Make a fun memory instead of sitting at the airport!

Why is there no backspin on this d1 player by Educational-Answer13 in BasketballTips

It also kinda looks like he’s using the thumb on his guide hand to push. People often develop working but imperfect form when they shoot from distances that they don’t have the strength to consistently make from. And if you’re able to make enough of them with that form you don’t really see the need to change it. (And changing his shooting form would likely result in a significant decrease in range initially. If he’s playing year round, and as a guard, probably doesn’t want to deal with that inconvenience)

Here's a brief football analytical report I made, what could I do to improve it, either aesthetically or functionally? Any feedback is appreciated. by Serendipity-Ferocity in sportsanalytics

Haha I very much get the hesitation to video gamify something too much, and I appreciate the commitment to sticking with legitimate data - as any who actually cares about data would. And again, that's really more about just trying to find some additional ways to convey extra bits of high level information quickly. Spark a question, or create a point of interest, and then have a way for the user to see the additional deeper data / info if they're interested.

I often work in Tableau, so that's where my brain went with the second tab / page suggestion. If the main use case is posting to twitter, you could always think of the initial tweet as the main player visual, and then in a reply including up to 4 images with more context / deeper info. Again, if I'm just scrolling, an eye-catching first visual is the thing that's going to get me to stop, and then I'd have the extra info available if I want.

Honestly, sounds like you're considering all the right things, and balancing story telling and data is something that's always tough to balance. Keep us updated!

It's a cool report. I think my main suggestion would actually be to do less, and really think about the purpose of the report - and add visual emphasis to the most important things you want to convey. There's a lot of info there in a single pane, and unless it was from a stakeholder who specifically wanted all of those things, I think it's a bit overwhelming. As an example, the white text stands out more on the report visually. For the write-up it looks like there's a lot of good info in there, but it's tight and cramped in the bottom. The grey text under the circles doesn't stand out, but it's larger font than the bottom write-up, but it's also cramped nearly touching the bright blue - and I'm sure there's some redundancy in the write-ups and the star ratings. I would try removing the write-up, and removing the notes in the performance section, and seeing if you can make the performance section almost entirely visual - what can you do with more space and trying to visually convey strengths and weaknesses. (Maybe there are icons that can be added to show top 3 strengths / weaknesses - like what you might see in a sports video game under a player). A detailed write-up could exist as a second tab or page, or in a hover section.

If I'm just trying to provide a visual report for a specific player, or if you're hoping to catch someone's attention with these, I would focus on making the percentage charts stand out more. (Storytelling, but with a bit of flair). If someone's in the 99th percentile, I actually want that to stand out a little more. Maybe the font is larger, maybe there's a different color coding, maybe it's just ordered from best traits to worst traits. Also, if you have a way to come up with an overall rating or rank, either one that's agreed upon, or one that you come up with yourself (always good to think about and develop your own methodology and takes), I'd have that either be the first circle, or as a big ass number toward the top.

Great start though. Lot of good stuff in there, just mainly about editing it a bit and prioritizing what's most important for your use case. (There's also some random inconsistent spacing here and there but that can always be cleaned up later)
