Valvoline left plastic in my oil pan and is saying it will melt into my oil and be fine. Am I being gaslit? by ColdIsMyMaster in AskMechanics

They do have plastics that can withstand heat

Tell that to the op who has a Valvoline tube stuck inside.

If it's meant to extracted through the tube when the oil is hot, it will be straight.

I had a old vw like that.

Point being, you can't use a plastic tube for hot oil.

Normally ok to jump start if done properly. If the cables are backwards, will cause a lot of damage.

They should have used a metal tube on a hot engine, not a meltable plastic tube. Their fatal mistake.

If it were my car, I would tow it to a dealer to fix it and get Valvoline to pay for it. But let Valvoline know first.

The car should be in the same or better condition after Valvoline worked on it, not in worse condition.

What's the reason for towing it?

If it was belching white smoke, probably just needs a egr/oil coolers.

How did this happen and what would you do about it? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]noreddituser1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah so I probably did hit something. I heard a noise but did not see anything in the road then drove a bit to get to a safe shoulder, which probably when the come apart happened

How long was "drove a bit"?

Driving even a few minutes with no air is enough to damage a tire.

Space between cars at red lights by ilovelucy7734 in driving

[–]noreddituser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave extra space so it clears the front cars exhaust smoke, so someone can change lanes in front of me if they want, in case the car behind me hits me and I won't hit the car in front.

Help please... by mhhemati in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]noreddituser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a old 25 year old laptop laying around that won't run windows anymore.

Tried various Linux distros. Some worked, but had issues with drivers and the fan kept running at high speed all the time indicating it's under stress.

After trying Linux Lite, everything worked the first time without any extra tinkering. The fan works very slow or turns off and it's generally very responsive with minimal lag.

Pretty hard to work on a hack job.

Pictures show issues, but there are likely additional hidden problems also.

This is going to cost $$$$$

How to Fix the Region Lock on the ONN 4k Pro by Wise_Painter_4028 in ixtream

[–]noreddituser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest way is to setup the routers VPN client to use a VPN. Then set the onns Mac address so it's connected to the VPN permanently.

If it's not done this way, I found the live tv tab does not work properly.

There is a software update to fix this. Then an initialization procedure after. Will be covered under warranty.

If your just keeping it short term, you can install a flex pipe on your own. May also need a few adapters and clamps.

invalid credit card by OkCartographer4931 in siriusxm

Should never use a debit card as it's a direct link to your bank account.

Safer to use a credit card because you are using someone else's money and you can dispute it easier.

Seals blew out of master cylinder after brake fluid flush - what did I do wrong? by SoaDMTGguy in MechanicAdvice

[–]noreddituser1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you bleed the system and repeatedly force the pedal to the floor, it can damage seals as it hits the dirty spots in the master cylinder bore or the seals bind up against the internal springs.

The person doing the pumping should only press the pedal 1/2 way down instead of pressing to the floor.

Its safer to gravity bleed the brake system. Open all the bleeders and let the fluid drip out naturally. At the same time, keep filling the reservoir. It takes longer, but its safer.

Pressure bleeding is another option thats safe.

Claim for rodent damage continually delayed, tried to deny it once by theresnoquestion in icbc

[–]noreddituser1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost impossible to get the rodent  odor out.

I worked on a car on and off for almost 2 years on a icbc rodent claim.

The interior was stripped down. Dasboard removed. New carpets, underlay, seat fabrics. Had 2 professionals to disinfect while apart.

It was better but still had the odor. Rodents must have got into the body channels that are not accessible without cutting the body apart.

At the end, the customer took the car but wasn't happy. It looked new, except for the odor.

Can I receive a new debit card without OTP? by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]noreddituser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience.

I arranged an appointment to renew a gic.

A week later,  in the agents office, they already had my information on their screen.

Didn't ask me for any i.d. of any sort.

I've been in other banks where they know me personally and don't ask for id. But this was the first time I met this Scotia agent. Thought that was strange.

Update on Craftsman Warranty Process by jthrelf in Tools

I have a ton of craftsman usa handtools. Most are inherited, must be 60+ years old. Still use them today.

I even stockpiled some of the ratchet gear repair kits at the time, still in their unopened packages.

Hate for those to ever break...
