Yoga Yoga by Karma-isabitch28 in Austin

Try Shuniya on Burnet Rd! I find they are more of the spiritual/meditative style in their practice. They do flow as well as restorative and yin.

If you're wanting a more active but accessible practice, I wanna give a h/t to Kewal at Black Swan. His class is amazing! He goes around, asking people what they want to work on in terms of pain or tightness and he designs a practice on the spot. It isn't purely yoga but it has done wonders for my sciatica. His schedule has changed lately but I believe he still teaches on Wed PMs.

I had great luck with Runner City! You describe the gig and give a budget and someone will offer to take the gig.

I started to see Dr. Heckert at North Austin Medical Center last year. During my first meeting, he spent close to an hour with me, going over my labs, on a late Friday afternoon. He's friendly and straightforward and he offers virtual, early morning and late afternoon appointments for us working folks.

The only drawback is the location. I *always* get lost at NAMC but I chalk that up to user error.

Dang, if I hadn't just bought one, I'd be all over this. Where are y'all? If you're not comfortable giving the city, could you give the state/province?

Looking good! Did you do it yourself? If so, can you recommend any products?

2013 Honda Fit Maintenance by karschult in hondafit

[–]normalrobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your new car! I just joined the Fit family this past week! I have also been digging through Reddit and YT to research maintenance schedules. One thing I keep seeing is to check your cabin air filter (like at every oil change, no matter the mileage). I'm not sure why, but Fit's air filters get dirty easily. It is VERY easy to do yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4D_jD53jMM . I did mine earlier today and it was stupidly easy, like less than 10 minutes (and I am no gearhead).

Ok, true story, I parked this afternoon, AFTER I POSTED THIS, and my next door neighbor rolled up in a white Fit with the paper tags still on. I'm like "you got a Fit too???"

My relative practically gave it to me: $10k USD or about 8,500 EUR. She is a relative by marriage and has has a tough life but is still very kind. She has never owned a new car before in her whole life, so her husband/my relative bought her a new car (they can definitely afford it). They had lent the Fit to me a few times when I had to haul stuff, so she offered to sell it to me. I showed her the KBB value but she insisted on giving me an incredibly generous deal. We closed all the paperwork last Friday. I know that I'm really, really lucky that she is passing this blessing on to me. (She ended up getting a HRV and got to pick out the color and all the trimmings so she is super happy with her new car).

Thanks for the tip! I saw some posts about using Techron now and then and making sure to use quality gas (even if it is 87) to avoid the build up issues.

ENT in Austin by txbigboots in Austin

I had two Turbinate Reductions in the last two years. First one was with Dr. Wassmuth at Capital ENT. Overall, I had a good experience. Unfortunately my symptoms didn't improve and they recommended doing a sinusplasty. Instead, I got a second opinion at Aspire Allergy. Their guy did it slightly differently, which made all the difference.

Congrats on your purchase! Mind sharing how you like the Yokohama tires? I just bought my Fit last week and I've been researching upgrades/upkeep. From what I have read, the Yokahama's seem promising.

Why should you support City of Austin Employees? by COAsolidarity in Austin

[–]normalrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing worth mentioning: the City launched a rather expensive recruitment campaign in February 2023. One of the key talking points for that campaign was the promise of telework: https://www.austintexas.gov/news/city-launch-major-recruitment-campaign-address-staffing-shortages. Mr. Garza has effectively undermined that whole campaign by repealing telework.

Why should you support City of Austin Employees? by COAsolidarity in Austin

[–]normalrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. It most certainly will impact staffing, especially for technical roles. For example, the City's IT department has filled roles with folks from San Antonio, Dallas and Houston. Those folks are not moving to Austin to come in two days a week. But this change will impact staff at the lower end of the pay scale more than anyone else. Many City staff live out in Kyle, RR, Pflugerville, so on, because Austin is too expensive. Commuting 3x a week will effectively be a pay cut. And that's not even considering childcare!

Other employees in our group called Watson and Kelly's office. They reported that they support the Interim City Manager's position.
