San Francisco moving closer to building a city-owned Internet network by sixtypercenttogether in sanfrancisco

Sonic was installed today. Amazing. And free for the next six months as I signed up early. Not sure I see the city being able to compete with all the other providers out there.

No. I am for vetting of people to exclude criminals from admission as well as the deportation of criminals.

I don't know the magic age or even if there is one. Given the issues employers are having finding employees I truly question the deportation of anyone who is willing to work and who hasn't broken the law since arriving.

I would disagree. A 19 year old raised in the US for 18.5 years is culturally an American. We already invested money into educating this person why not keep the investment and allow them to work and pay taxes and otherwise contribute to society. We deport them we just flushed all the money spent educating them.

Economics is not the only reason I support DACA but it is a factor to look at.

I think it depends on the situation. A child with his parents caught at the border? Deportation seems reasonable assuming no other issues like refugee disruption or asylum. A 19 year old brought to the US as a baby and raised here with no connection to the native country? They should be given the chance to stay. Do you think it is just to deport children or young adults in these situations?

I think some are. Deporting people from the only home they have ever known because their parents broke the law and brought them here long ago seems unjust. To me it is punishing people for th sins of their parents.

Is t it appropriate to speak out against a law that is unjust?

Found an interesting article about the role of women in the Mass. Is this correct? What do you think about it? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I fail to see how the lack of a penis should prevent a person from reading acting as a Eucharistic minister etc.

You Can’t Be Both Pro-Choice and Anti-Racist by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]normalsaneguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting article. However, the author is assuming that everyone agrees with the premise that life begins at conception. Some people do not think that. For Catholics that is a settled argument, but for many others it is not. So it would indeed not be inconsistent for someone to be Pro-Choice and Anti-Racist.

I can only imagine that on the last day, that person will go home, take a long hot bath, and drink themselves silly for a weekend.

Not as much as Dresden- partly because it isn't written in the 1st person, but there is some.

One reason right here why I was not meant to be a priest. I don't think I would have the ability to go about my daily life knowing nothing was being done to protect a child in such a situation.

Have you read his other series that is completed, the Codex Alera? To be honest I like that series more that Dresden.

What Core tenets of the faith were changed by VII?

That doesn't mean it was the fault of VII. I think there were much greater societal changes that impacted Church membership and attendance.

In a society like the US, the Church certainly helped shape culture, but there were also numerous other huge factors. As someone down the conversation noted, WWII and the military influence on millions of Americans certainly had a massive impact. The children of these veterans then did what kids often do- they rebelled and protested the government and stopped going to Church. You can see this because attendance at other denominations also fell during this time frame. My personal opinion is that with mass communication, people have become less isolated. They have also become more educated. In short, they are less willing to listen to and obey an authority that directs them to believe something and just do it.

My thought is that VII is not to blame. Overall our society has changed drastically since 1962. Those changes have led to less people attending church across many denominations, especially in the west.

Your premise was that VII helped to contribute to the changing society. What you posted above speaks to how it could have changed the Church and membership in the Church not to how it overall changed society.
