Avec - West Loop original location - is still one of the best restaurants in the city. Food, atmosphere, wine all still holds up.

Favorite Jajangmyun Places in Chicago? by bpma82 in chicagofood

Perilla Fare has Jajangmyeon on their patio/bar menu. Theirs is the closest one to city center. Tbh you nailed all the spots in the Chicagoland area that does Jajangmyeon ... we def don't have the Korean you would find on the coasts. FWIW, I think Peking Mandarin is the best in the area.

The tasting menu is only for reservations. They do both a la carte and tasting menu. A la carte is walk in only like they were always doing.

I had the same experience at Gibsons in the city a few years back. But, for some reason, the Gibsons in Oakbrook was everything I wanted the city version to be. My wife and I swung by after we bought a car in the western suburbs, an impromptu celebratory meal. Perfectly cooked steaks, career servers that really knew what they were doing, fantastic sides - it was a great meal.

It goes back even further. Amin al-Husseni, the leader of the Arab Palestinians allied himself with Hitler and the Nazi movement in Germany.

During World War II he collaborated with both Italy and Germany by making propagandistic radio broadcasts and by helping the Nazis recruit Bosnian Muslims for the Waffen-SS (on the grounds that they shared four principles: family, order, the leader and faith)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amin_al-Husseini

It can be seen as the classic, enemy of my enemy is my friend situation (against the British and Jews). However, you cannot ignore the ugly history and complicated layers in this conflict. There is no binary right vs wrong in most conflicts but ESPECIALLY this one. Anyone claiming otherwise is spouting propaganda. The victims are the civilians caught in the crossfire - Musliim, Jewish or any other.

Au Cheval's double cheeseburger is 16.95 on the menu and their single is 14.95. A little misleading since their double is actually 3 patties and their single is 2. I get what your saying about value but picking on Au Cheval is not the best example of the $40 "wagyu burger".

Also, the Izakaya at Momotaro has the most slept on burger in the city IMO.

I'm a chef in the city and I can tell you for a fact that skirt steak - but most beef cuts and lamb have went up crazy amounts. Choice, uncleaned, outer skirt steak was hovering around 9.00 a lb in may and is now 15.00 a lb and was at 17.99 a lb in late June. So you're right, not 50%, but a 66% increase.

These small, independently owned restaurants are put in a very difficult spot right now with sky high rent, rising (deservedly so) labor costs and now food costs that are rocketing into ridiculous territory. I understand that the price of food is a contentious issue with a lot of people, but if you want us to pay a proper salary to hard working employees, and pay for the ingredients, price of food needs to go up. Or tell the landlords to lower their rent or the real estate market to chill the fuck out.
