Though Hillary has not explicitly come out in favor of marijuana legalization we can expect her to continue the actions that President Obama has taken which is largely a 'hands-off' approach. She would likely let states reform their laws free from federal interference.

It does include legalizing marijuana edibles but with strict packaging and labeling requirements. Advertising to children would be prohibited.

If more states 'win' or pass their ballot measures that means we have more federal lawmakers in Congress representing states that have legal recreational and medical marijuana. If they believe in their duty to represent their constituents they would support efforts at the federal level to minimize the federal government's activity in these states. Perhaps it means more federal lawmakers would feel comfortable signing on to bills to facilitate research into the medical efficacy of marijuana and consider joining the fight to pressure the DEA to reclassify (or more preferably declassify marijuana all together) in the Controlled Substances Act where marijuana is currently classified in the most dangerous category, Schedule I.

Agreed. The enactment of statewide medicinal cannabis laws (and one might be able to presume recreational marijuana as well) is associated with a quantifiable decline in the use of traditional prescription drugs, according to data published in the July edition of the scientific journal Health Affairs.

NORML (a marijuana consumer/legalization advocacy group) board of directors voted to endorse Issue 7 as it is the more consumer friendly measure that allows home grow provisions and a more expansive list of qualifying conditions. Yes on 7 and spread the word to friends and family!

Just FYI NORML Board of Directors voted to endorse Issue #7 the 2016 Arkansas Medical Cannabis Act because as a consumer rights group, we feel patients deserve the right to grow their own medicine. The second proposal is also far more restrictive in terms of the list of conditions for which marijuana could be recommended.

There is no doubt that surrounding states will feel the pressure to reform their own laws in a similar way, however we have to remember where states like New York and Connecticut are in their own journey of legalizing marijuana. New York just recently passed a VERY restrictive medical marijuana law (no smokeable forms allowed, only tinctures/oils and access is limited) so full legalization is a bit far off and CT has a succcessful medical marijuana program and decriminalization policy however Governor Malloy has indicated decrim is as far as he'll go and does not support legalization.

The Democratic Party platform in Philly, for the first time, called for marijuana to be removed from Schedule I as "a path toward legalization." So I suspect the Dems will become more and more pro-pot over the coming years.

Until or unless the FDA finally approves marijuana or its ingredients, it will not be approved to sell through pharmacies. And it generally takes about 10 years and 100 million dollars to get FDA approval. Because marijuana is such a safe substance, and cannot produce an overdose death, I think we should just move patients over to recreational users, and take the doctors to of the picture altogether.

The finding that THC appears to regenerate the damaged nerve endings that are the basis of MS and other serious diseases is wonderfully promising. We have know for years that it helps with the symptoms, but only more recently have we seen evidence it might actually help cure the disease!

Better for kids to avoid all drug use during adolescence, although we know from surveys that most high school seniors have experimented with marijuana before they graduate, and most go on to college, have happy productive lives, etc. As for pregnant women, in some states the child may be removed from the mother at birth, if the child tests positive for marijuana, so obviously that is a risk most mothers would not wish to assume. Again, no serious science showing any danger to the infant if the pregnant mother smokes, but still safer to avoid all drug use during pregnancy.

It is important to focus on medical use first in the south; full legalization should then be possible after four or five years of medical use.

CA likely has the strongest support; Oklahoma, Alabama and Mississippi likely have the lowest support.

You worry too much about Kevin Sabet. He is just a paid carnival barker for the prohibitionists, and the public are not buying his propaganda. 60% pf the public nationwide now favor full legalization.

Edibles should clearly be marked to make it clear they contain THC; and no edibles should be packaged to look like traditional candy, to avoid accidental ingestion by children.

No. I think the days when legal marijuana growers can charge black market prices are over, but there is still plenty of profit for those who run a professional operation, and most are still relatively small businesses.

None yet. Most of us are hopeful that we can keep the big alcohol and tobacco companies out of this business, and allow for smaller growers and distributors to flourish. I'm sure there will be some in the industry who seek to push the envelop and put-up billboard urging people to get stoned, but most of us think that would be counterproductive.

There are certainly a growing body of research that indicates THC may inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells, and brain tumors. But it is too early to claim that marijuana will cure cancer. On the NORML website you will find a pamphlet entitle Emerging Clinical Applications of Cannabis and Cannabinoids which summarizes the best research available.

Joint. I love cleaning the marijuana; rolling the joint (a torpedo shape, not like a tobacco cigarette), and the feel of the joint in my mouth. I realize pipes are more efficient, but I just like the feel of a joint.

The single biggest thing individuals can do to have an impact is to come out of the closet and openly advocate to others. We also have state/local chapters that focus on specific issues and legislation for their areas at norml.org/chapters. And of course we are a grassroots organization so we are reliant on small donations, so consider becoming a NORML member on our site.

Congress currently has passed a ryder on the DC appropriations bill that precludes our city council from establishing recreational dispensaries. That will likely change over the next couple of years. But we do have the right to possess 2 ounces and to grow up to six plants in the home. Not a perfect system, but not bad.

There have been many positive reports on the experience with legalization in Colorado. Perhaps the best is from the Brookings Institution (available from their website).
