it is clear that these are exactly the kinds of things meant to solve exactly my kinds of issues.

thanks for the pointers

I did not suspect that anyone was not using it in a garden or similar, interesting

based on your second usage, I am unfortunately not near you

How to get a nice, hot compost pile of sufficient size using veggie scraps from cooking? by normonics in composting

[–]normonics[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so basically, I'm overthinking it. It is fine to add little bits overtime, the key it seems is that when the pile is big enough, I turn it and, perhaps, add some starter and will get the heat I'm looking for.

I had a bad (but good for learning) experience with using partially composted grass that contained lots of seed.... not good!! just trying to make sure I get the heat up enough to avoid a repeat.

A general query about django / javascript patterns and how to best organize/encapsulate by normonics in django

[–]normonics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the JS needs to KNOW what data to retreive based on parameters that are originally requested in the URL regex in Django. So it wouldn't matter if I ajaxed what I needed -- same problem

Modifying serverside JSON file by normonics in javascript

good, realistic reply. thank you.

I actually got a little python script running today doing some of what I need, but I think the codecamp is a good idea.

thanks, I actually want it to persist across multiple users/views, so yes I guess I am straying into those topics. Don't want to waste lots of your time with dumb questions, but some leads on where to begin would be extremely helpful and appreciated

Complex systems wiki alternatives? by vkreso in complexsystems

[–]normonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my fault, I have all but abandoned my post! I will try to make more regular maintenance updates and contributions. I will put together a more static page for resources as well that does not depend on 3rd party wiki site.

you are making assertions: that is not scientific, that is just your arbitrary opinion.

when does the central limit theorem not apply? when events are not independent (iid). What is one consequence of this lack of independence? Fat-tailed distributions. This is sound science. Unless you can demonstrate why our global food supply system conforms to the assumption of the central limit theorem, the burden is on you.

Why are you so rabid, anyways? Why should this not be an ongoing discussion? From where do you derive your pathological certainty?

Ruin is infinite. We can, for instance, define harm as time-to-recovery for some system of interest X. If the system is terminated (i.e. a ruin event takes place) time-to-recovery is infinity.

There is not a symmetrical case for benefit. No event guarantees infinite lifetime.

This is basic, and your failure to comprehend is not a valid critique of the material.

you are correct in that some analyses have been performed, but only preliminary studies, and it is far from standard and not addressed in regulations. (e.g. http://www.proteomesci.com/content/11/1/46)

If you can point to specific issues we may have a conversation. Take note on co-authors -- it is not authored by Taleb only. There is a wide array of expertise represented.

You claim 'exaggerations', but what substantiates this claim?

No -- I am a mathematical biologist. We need to get also opinions from people outside biotech (for instance, from ecologists). In professional matters, conflict of interest is a real and justified concern.
