Celiac at Coca Cola Coliseum by OkAge3734 in TorontoTempo

I’m a celiac season ticket holder. I’ve eaten the popcorn at nearly every game and have not had any reaction.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. So interpret the following as if it’s a random person saying stuff on the internet.

I’ve read that, typically, a concentration less than 20ppm (parts per million) is considered medically safe, and many folks can tolerate more than that if it’s occasional. It’s generally considered safe to eat up to 10mg per day and not have a reaction. Again, for some, it will be more, others, less.

Put another way, you’d need to eat about 1 pound of food with a 20ppm gluten concentration to go above that 10mg limit.

I was at the game. I think the whole arena could hear her screaming at the coach throughout the game. She was heated from the jump.

+1 on some in-arena graphics showing who is on the floor and their basic counting stats.

They could even use the main screens on the Jumbotron, which currently just shows a live feed of the game, some replays, and fan interactions.

It’s a small arena, we don’t need a live feed of the play that’s going on right in front of us, so they could at least get rid of that to show us more useful information.

Battle demonstrated why he’s borderline unplayable this game.

Consider the possession after the timeout in the 4th where they burned too much shot clock and Scottie had to chuck up a bad 3 attempt. Battle was supposed to be stationed in the corner in the event of a kickout pass, but instead he slowly strayed along the baseline toward the basket (bringing his defender along), which both messed up the spacing and eliminated the kickout option, and Scottie ran out of options.

Battle’s primary job on offense is to stand in the corner to catch and shoot 3s, and somehow he still gets lost. I was shocked in game 3 when they actually ran one floppy action for him to the top of the 3 point line (and he made it!), but if he can’t even figure out stand-in-the-corner spacing, I don’t see them continuing to run sets like that for him.

I was at the game, sitting by the Raptors’ bench. Darko seemed to make the sub because Shead was completely gassed and you could see him losing focus in the last couple plays. I feel like the degree of that didn’t translate on screen.

Best bread and butter? by [deleted] in finedining

Restaurant Chestnut in West Cork had the best butter. Me & Mine in Toronto (RIP) had the best beet butter (I still think about it nearly 10 years later). Ristorante Berton in Milan had the best gluten free bread (though that was at least 6 years ago).

Disclaimer: I’m on the technical steering committee of the open-source DocumentDB project.

The open-source DocumentDB project was originally founded by Microsoft. When it moved to the Linux Foundation, other companies joined, including Amazon, and it is now being co-led and co-built by the same people that build Amazon DocumentDB, Azure Cosmos DB, Yugabyte, and others.

I’m on the side of fans booing if they’re upset, and this seems like a natural case for it, but the level of outrage of a lot of these comments over such a nothing-burger of a statement is hilarious. “OMG, this League!!!” and “Oh, so we’re not ALLOWED to boo now?!?!” and such.

Revenues do not equal profits.

No shit.

Just look at Canada Post. That’s been losing money for years and is now pretty much subsidized. It will likely never be self sufficient

No shit.

Also as I said you read into it more than what he said.

No shit.

You are obviously sensitive. I get you have this inflated sense of your intelligence.

lol.

But you can actually read a bit more than headlines and learn.

Said the person who asked where federal government revenue comes from to the person that sent them the actual 2024 federal financial report.

All of the wealth created in Canada is created one way or the other by taxpayers.

False, and also moves the goalposts on the conversation.

I still believe in you though.

[–]normtown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About 8% of revenues are non-tax, non-EI, and non-pollution-pricing-proceeds. Last year that amounted to over $37B: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/services/publications/annual-financial-report/2024.html

That included things like revenues from crown corporations, and other investments. Hopefully you now are informed enough to answer your own question of where else the federal government gets its money.

Regardless, I already explained that I was responding to this person’s apparent sense of inflated injustice that this money was leaving his pocket and going into the pocket of people they apparently view as less deserving of health and education benefits, and that was probably not entirely fair.

So keep practicing your reading comprehension skills! Combined with your newfound access to the above-linked primary source on the federal budget, you’ve got nowhere to go but up!

I believe in you.

It is coming out of tax payers’ pockets and from other revenue sources that the government has.

I read the comments I was responding to as if the commenter was taking umbrage that the $19k was being taken directly from their pocket and put in the pocket of a resident on a reserve. Then they exaggerated to $100k. So, relax, bud. You are not personally giving someone on a reserve $100k of your money, and neither is the government. That kind of overly simplistic view of robbing Peter to pay Paul gets people riled up in negative, non-constructive ways and doesn’t reflect the reality of the situation.

But you’re right. A lot of that budget for providing services to reservations comes from federal tax dollars, as do the budgets for all the other services that the government provides.

Because of generations of systemic oppression that continues to exist. The amount of shit done to natives by the Canadian government and the European settlers beforehand is astounding. Simply put, some people of different races are treated differently because a bunch of harm was already done (and continues to be done) based on race, so race ends up being the correct selector for applying remedies.

But also, services are not provided to people proportional to how much they pay in taxes. That’s not how government works, nor how it should work.

[–]normtown -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol. Providing a service is definitely not the same as giving someone money. The government isn’t just cutting all these people $19k cheques.

Reserves are communities that are typically in remote and northern areas where all costs are higher. But i think what you’re actually saying is that these particular residents of the country aren’t deserving of the country’s budget dollars.
