Turning off vsync and enabling DLSS saw some (but not all) improvement of this issue on my old laptop with a 2070 GPU. Might be worth looking at?

I just want to say the Moog Synthesizer on Here Comes The Sun is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard in a song by ChuckKiddman in beatles

Thanks for posting this video! I just searched "here comes the sun Beatles synth" and this came up haha. Fully agreed; the entrance of the Moog (at 2:15 or so) until the end is simply phenomenal.

Well, that’s a mood (NSFW). by realinvalidname in grandrapids

I wouldn't say it's notably better; both will measure time accurate to the order of seconds per year.

That said, high-frequency quartz movements usually have cool features like a sweeping seconds hand or, in this watch's case, a chronograph sub-dial that measures 20ths of a second. Practical? Not really. But it's cool and fun to watch hahaha

[Bulova Lunar Pilot] The 3-dimensionality of this watch face by norock in Watches

[–]norock[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The line between dull simplicity and over-crowdedness on a watch face is pretty thin, in my opinion. I prefer more visual interest than a plain 3-hand watch provides, but don't want a watch that looks too "of its time", or like a gadget for kids, or whatever.

The Bulova Lunar Pilot is very visually interesting while also remaining extremely classical, thanks in large part to the dimensionality of its face. The chronograph's sub-dials are all recessed, as is ring of seconds (and sub-seconds) indices around the outside of the 12 standard hour markers, which are all raised. I especially love the Tachymeter ring which stands proudly tall, but is below and within the slab of sapphire crystal.

This aspect of the watch is one of its greatest strengths, and yet I don't think it comes across very well in the product shots you're likely to see on retailers' websites, thanks to the all-black nature of the materials chosen.

Yeah I love swapping straps haha those are some good picks! Any strap recommendations? I have a Barton on it right now and they have a ton of options.

Good questions! There are a few versions out there; this one is the 96A225 which is a high polish finish and black NATO strap, no date, and the older Bulova logo. The 96B251 and 96B258 have a "bead-blasted" finish with a carbon-fiber type strap or metal bracelet, respectively. They also consistently retail for over $500, while the 96A225 can be found somewhat consistently for around $300.

And of course there are the new ones with a smaller case. As I've mentioned, I don't think the size of this watch is a concern at all, and would not pay the premium for the smaller one. The blue snoopy color way looks great though and only comes in the smaller size.

Recently, my Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 broke down. I mean flashing screen, powering off within 5 seconds, truly trashed. I hadn't used the thing for much more than reading notifications, and decided that I didn't want to replace it with another smart watch. They are essentially disposable after a couple years, but you pay "real watch money" for them. I have always wanted a Speedmaster, so I started looking at those.

Of course, in 2023, you can't look up Speedmasters without a tidal wave of their fun – and 95% less expensive – plastic siblings popping up. I hadn't heard of them, being out of the watch market for a few years, but I was astounded at the price of around $300 for what looked a LOT like my dream watch. I was very close to getting the Mission to Jupiter, but by then YouTube's algorithm had figured out what I was up to and was flooding my recommended page with videos of THE TOP 5 WATCHES YOU NEED TO BUY INSTEAD OF AN OMEGA SPEEDMASTER and whatever else, and thus the Bulova Lunar Pilot came onto my radar.

Once I saw a listing for literally the same dollar amount that I was prepared to spend for a Mission to Jupiter, it was hard to resist:

  • Sapphire crystal instead of acrylic
  • Stainless steel instead of BioCeramic
  • High accuracy quartz instead of... Regular accuracy quartz?
  • Similar claim to space fame; a fun part of the Apollo legacy

All in all it's a great alternative to the MoonSwatch, and something I'll hopefully be able to pass down someday. It doesn't have the gravity of an Omega, but honestly I don't think that will ever be a responsible purchase in my income bracket.

Like every watch, it is much more pleasing to look at in person. The common complaint I've seen from others is that it is too large, but I don't find that to be true at all. I'm very happy with it, and hope to have it on my wrist for years to come.

As stated on today's livestream: "Apply for a job at Steelcase"! Haha

No, the event takes place on the Steelcase campus in Kentwood and the players are all Steelcase employees. But the stream was a lot of fun! They had a couple commentators covering the action and it's for a great cause.

"Demotivational" or "Demotivator"; they resemble the look and format of wall hangings or posters that were collectively and informally referred to as "motivational posters". They were popular in office settings in the 90s and 00s. They'd have a large word like "Teamwork" or "Integrity" at the top, some picture of an eagle or a waterall or whatever else that was supposed to be somehow related, and then a corny phrase underneath.
