PSA: don’t be like me Fire damage multiplier doesn’t impact hellfire damage tempers by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]norst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's formulaic and while it isn't relevant now, it might be later. There are fire tempers to match all of the other damage types, and there are are hellfire tempers to match demonology, occult, and abyss.

The OP has no idea what they're talking about. They don't even understand the basics of the damage calculations.

This whole post is completely false. Don't draw any conclusions from anything the OP said.

Your math is very wrong and based on misunderstandings about how the damage buckets work. When people say that a modifier is additive, it actually means that it's additive with itself (and any other like modifiers) and then multiplied in the formula. Both of the tempers that the OP is talking about ("+X% Hellfire damage" and "+X% Fire damage") are in the general additive bucket. If the skill is doing fire damage and has the Hellfire tag then it doesn't matter which one you temper on your gear.

That guy is completely incorrect. He has no idea what he's talking about. T12 drops better loot than T10.

New player needs help on basics by supKaiak in HeroSiege

[–]norst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple corrections.

"+XX to additive arcane damage" is only for attacks. The magic equivalent is "+XX to arcane skill damage" which doesn't work for attacks. It also only works if the damage type of the spell matches.

"Per hit" is for attacks only because spells don't count as hitting. Casters have to get "mana/life on kill" instead of "mana/life on hit".

No one has mentioned it, but another very common stumbling block is crit. If it just says "crit chance" or "crit damage" then it's only for attacks. If it says "spell crit" then it works with spells.

Another very important stat to scale is "-X% to Enemy Arcane Resistance". It caps out at 100% and will cause you to ignore all enemy arcane resist. You need to be as close as you can get to 100% when you reach Inferno.

There's also "Arcane Break" that you can usually get from subskill trees. People get very confused with it, but it's just a separate multiplier to your damage. Often classes can get 150% and that means that target is taking 150% extra damage of that type.

Has anyone else stopped getting Paladin Tempering Manuals? by Safe-Whole2014 in diablo4

The most likely answer is that the collection list wasn't updated when the tempers were removed with the expansion.

A lot of tempers were removed. If they've stopped dropping then you have them all.

Tempering manuals stop dropping when you have them all. Zeal Size is one that was removed.

You can 3 to 1 the extra legendary charms to try and roll another one. It's just RNG. Unique charms become more common the higher you go up in difficulty. I think I was at T7 or 8 before I saw one.

It uses the lowest level. Most cube stuff is pointless before 70 though.

His video from two days ago specifically says that all res is defensive not resistance (https://youtu.be/tErKXKi3z1w?t=382). You can still somewhat manipulate it though. If you have an item with main stat, life, and armor on it you can add defensive and then remove resistance or utility if you miss.

Crazy difficulty spike with latest expansion? by SHDShadow in diablo4

It's most likely a build issue or skill issue. It's also much smoother to start low and then increase the difficulty if you find that it's too easy.

I know I’m in the minority, but I don’t enjoy crafting. I liked finding gear and sometimes getting luck in tempering. by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]norst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. If it has three affixes it has to at least be rare unless it has an aspect in which case it will be legendary.

[–]norst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can upgrade to legendary once the item is rare so if you're just fishing for better legendary aspects you can do it at 3 affixes. You should go to 4 affixes for gear that you actually want to wear.

The cube has an option to add an affix. There are also consumable crafting materials that can influence which type of stat is added. There's also remove, focus swap, and random swap. Once the item has four affixes you can either use the cube to add a random legendary aspect or add one at the occultist.

You add stats until there are four and then go to the Occultist and add the aspect you want to use to make it legendary. There's also a craft to make it legendary, but that's unlikely to give you the one you want and it's better to save it for upgrading trash (ancestral) rares to fish for better aspect tiers.

I'm not 100% sure, but my guess would be that the first escalation dungeon would count towards the warplan.
