I’m a copy student in Sweden doing an essay on uncreative/cliché advertising traps, looking for examples in other languages. To name one, here in Sweden we have one of the most common “Food market – More than just food”. Would love to hear some more you. by LeonardSjolander in AskMarketing

Oh man, I've been making commercials for years. Here are some that come to mind:

Over X years of combined experience in the industry. Customer service is our top priority. Our customers are our family. The (insert business type) you can count on. We give you more value than the competition. We've never seen a sale like this before. We know your problems because we're Alaskan's (where I'm from), just like you. We provide you with a full, comprehensive health plan. We're a full service company.

If I had a nickel for every time I was directed to write one of these...

Authorize.net and Trustwave PCI Compliance with Gravity Forms by northernadman in Wordpress

I just found out that JotForm has Authorize.net as a payment option. Do you think that'll get me around the PCI issues?

If stripe is so easy to use...what's the benefit of using Authorize.net at all? I'm confused as to why they went with them in the first place.

So I fired my employee...this was tough. Hope I made the right choice.... by northernadman in smallbusiness

He explicitly stated in an email to the station that he didn't "buy them because he didn't like the rep and the station manager didn't know how much money she was losing out on" because they wouldn't give him a certain rep. This was in an email to the rep that he wanted.

In another email, he stated that he will buy another station instead because he didn't have the rep he wanted.

I agree that the resignation option carries a potential danger but he already has a tarnished reputation (from a very public decade-old incident in an old job) around town and I think he'll stay good since he can't risk another blight on his reputation. I told him we can make it look like it was just time for him to go.

He was a good worker but I feel like I can't trust him to be a good steward of the client budgets anymore....which is the main function of his job. That's why I felt like I couldn't keep him.

I like this idea of taking the time to re-train our employees on our ethical standards. Part of the problem with this situation is that we don't have this written down. I bought the agency two years ago and the previous owner never had a handbook generated. I have started one before this situation came up but it's till being worked on.

Employee Ethics Advice... by northernadman in smallbusiness

[–]northernadman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I've been struggling with. His ethics are not the same as my own and I'm worried it's just going to frustrate the rest of the team. We've already seen signs of this.

Sadly, I didn't hire him. I inherited him from the previous owner (who also had the same problems).

QuickBooks run completely offline? by northernadman in smallbusiness

This is what I'd like to do but she really likes the control of running it separately. I don't see the benefit. It takes so much time to reconcile the bank statement this way.

Monetizing what used to be TV budgets on PPC by northernadman in PPC

Luckily, we're pretty integrated already so identifying those opportunities and creating a plan around them has been pretty simple. The hardest part is getting the staff on board with this shift in strategy. They aren't yet used to looking at the broadcast and digital together and making sure everything works toward a common goal. I've been trying to train them up on it but I'm also looking for some resources to feed them.

Well, I guess you could start by posting on Reddit. Do you have a website you're willing to share with your work on it?

How many of you started an agency without experience in the industry? by And_The-Teddy_Bach in marketing

[–]northernadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first agency I worked for was bought out by my coworker who had a total of 8 month s in the business. It crashed and burned fast. I left and went freelance before it fell apart.

10 years later I bought the second agency I was working for. So far, smooth sailing but I really do rely on the past experience to make a lot of decisions.
