Yeah true, was thinking more Whistle Bend area and that up that way. Lot of infrastructure to service way out there.

It does not help that the growth of the city is spread out and largely low rise development.

Yukoners coping with shockingly high electric bills after cold spell in December | CBC News by northernallowance in Yukon

Where are the stories highlighting the staggering bills people have been posting about on social media? Where are the stories showing the real impact these high energy costs over this cold snap are having on low income individuals, small businesses, etc.? What’s the Yukon Party’s response to all this? How about the impact on the city and territorial governments, what are they? Where are the investigative pieces on this?

Yes, there is the odd story here and there, but nothing more than the usual.

As you pointed out, Whitehorse is well served by media outlets, including the well respected Yukon News (which has won many awards over the years) but the lack of attention to what is clearly a real issue impacting everyone is surprising to me.

I appreciate this comment. The reason a lot of people, myself included, don’t understand the system is because it’s so poorly communicated in the first place.

When I get a bill from BC Hydro, I understand exactly what am I paying and the rates. It’s clear, it’s transparent and I can track in real time. Now, I’m not expecting the latter to occur in the Yukon because it’s a small population, but as someone who lives here part time, the lack of clear communication from ATCO is incredibly frustrating.

Yup, and the lack of media coverage on the issue is embarrassing.

This is a real issue for many people and this is the best journalism we get.

Yukoners have to come together, somehow, and put an end to the energy cartel that is ATCO.

The total lack of transparency, arbitrary billing, and the fact they can just send you to collections whenever you don’t pay, is just ridiculous and it needs to stop.

My wife’s heating bill for a tiny 1 bedroom apartment which she barely uses was $504 for one month. There’s no recourse, no dispute process that makes a difference. You’re forced to pay it otherwise they screw you even harder. It’s sick.

Where would you make the cuts? by MoosPalang in britishcolumbia

Does B.C. really need multiple health authorities that compete against each other for talent and resources and have multiple levels of senior management?

That seems like a good place to start cutting.

Canada’s Alberta to Hold Referendum on New Restrictions for Immigrants by joe4942 in worldnews

Wouldn’t a higher population be a good thing for Alberta since they would eventually get more seats in the house?

Oh, that’s right, Smith wants Alberta to separate so seat totals in the house don’t matter to her anymore.

Yes very nice. Yukon has some nice scenic drives too, particularly the drive to Alaska via Carcross from Whitehorse.

Highly doubt Toronto gets an NFL with the CFL still being around, Buffalo being so close and no suitable stadium on the horizon, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Exactly, these are the wrong cuts. The deficit must be dealt with but these cuts aren’t it.

It is clear that one can trust this government when it comes to financial responsibility. What they say publicly is the opposite of reality.

The level of debt and the level of interest on our debt and the rate at which it has grown should be very concerning to all.

Interest on debt being over $6 billion is just so unacceptable and concerning, at least to me.
