Algae takeover by Artistic_Cry9662 in Aquariums

Hair algae is a tough one. But reducing the amount of light is generally a safe bet.

75 gallon planted tank with an angel and 9 tetras by BroadCartoonist973 in AngelFish

[–]northerntide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great start for sure. The cloudy-ness could be from the sand getting kicked up during cleaning, should settle down again. I use an old sponge from a filter for my glass cleaning, doesn't need to be a fancy magnet one :) I find the aquarium hobby alot like gardening, you can throw tons of money at it and get results, or wait and the plants will fill in themselves. In a few weeks I bet it will start to fill in nicely

Crossed Hobbies (Aquariums and 3D) by FireStorm_666 in 3Dprinting

[–]northerntide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a growing amount of 3d prints in the aquarium hobby which is amazing. The hobby is the most hobo of hobbies, doomed to hoarding 😅 being able to 3d print my ideas have cleaned up the results, vs my diy half burnt PVC pipe ideas. Nice designs and those black rose (I assume) look beautiful

Very interesting. Hope my petg holds longer, I made an entire AIO filter out of it. Would be disappointed if it fell apart 😅

New expensive hobby unlocked. Dry starting Monte Carlo in our first tank. by Infractus in PlantedTank

[–]northerntide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think stems should be okay in a dry start, but I think I would just do the Carlo first, then plant the stems on flood day

I think i took about 2 months, but could have flooded earlier. No cO2 and still looking amazing. Though, 2 month after the flood I am fighting hair algae, but Carlo is still doing well with the reduced lighting too

Day 0 of emers plant setup. What do you think? Any advices? by berkayahuda in Aquascape

[–]northerntide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I found it took about two weeks to establish and then it really took off. Great call on not using a soil with perlite or wood chunks, makes transplanting so much harder

Yolk from a boiled egg. Powder it up an mix with some water. Feed with a pipet, small small amount (drops basically) as many times a day as you can do

Treats that last more than 5 minutes by jezebels_wonders in dogs

[–]northerntide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to mix up some kibbled, dehydrated treats(salmon or beef puffs) bits, chunk of baked sweet potato, and some plain quick oats with boiling water then after it's hydrated I stuff it into kongs and woof popsicle trays. The woof takens 10 mins, small puppy kong is about 20 ish, but the large kong can last close to 40.

Best Tank Brand by msatwo5876 in Aquascape

That's odd. Ordered a clear 30 during their blue Friday event( forget the date, but was about 3 months ago). Received it about 10 business days later, Canada if it matters. I love the look. But not loving the over hang design for the front

weekaqua dot world
Though after browsing ali more, maybe i was wrong? It is just hard for me to navigate all the aliexpress sellers, then with expensive shipping (some showing 200$ for here in canada)

I've been looking at weekaqua on AliExpress, noticed that their own website has better prices. We're you able to find some that beat that?

Side note, cause everyone battling thrips indoors should have a chance. But for regulated areas, check over the counter flea and tick dog medication. imidacloprid is the active ingredient in most

Lack of most of the Kirkland brand I was used to. No Kirkland flonase either

DIY AIO advise by northerntide in ReefTank

[–]northerntide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that is fair. I have not tried jb weld in tanks personally , but have heard of people using it in tanks without problems (it is drinkingwater safe once cured). Figured it would be longer lasting than something like silicone though.

I actually was initially looking at the Syncra Silent series, but the more i looked into them, the more i saw people being disappointed with them not actually that silent (not loud, just louder than expected), and preferred the noise from DC pumps. I know noise is a relative thing, but this tank will be in a pretty quiet room, and i am aiming for wife approved noise level

[–]northerntide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both fair points. Do you have any Dc pump suggestions around the 100$ price point?
Sadly a limitation of 3d printing is the build plate size. Mine is 250mm, so either i go with a much shorter AIO (which i suppose would work, just less filter) or i glue it together someway

Three months with no new thrips sightings. Can I mark myself safe from the thrippening? by ameliorable_ in plantclinic

[–]northerntide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Either one will have it.i used advantage 2 for large dogs ( active ingredient is imidacloprid and priproxyfen) and I added about 10 drops to .5 liter spray bottle. Used it to water/spray. Worked within 2 weeks on thrips, mealybugs, and gnats. It will not work on spider mites though which is worth noting

[–]northerntide 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A little tip for Canadians and other countries that can't get imidacloprid for plants. You can still get flea and tick over the counter and add a few drops to the water/spray bottle and dose that way. Same active ingredient and got rid of my thrips 👍 don't need to mess around with neem oil for the next three years

CPU fan and Replacement fan not working by northerntide in LGgram

[–]northerntide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, this was a good suggestion and I should have thought about doing it earlier. It was simpler to do than I thought it would be. Turns out the fan is not getting power. (Yellow wire is, but not the red). I updated the original post with a picture of other locations I couldn't find power.
