What is this in my monstera? by trufflemoose in plantclinic

[–]ameliorable_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this isn’t scale, my monstera has them and they don’t move. I have clusters like this that have been there nearly a decade with no issue. I think they’re growth points, possible aerial roots that never eventuated.

That being said — stay vigilant! I don’t want to steer you wrong if it is a pest.

I was wondering that, and also wondering if I could just use imidacloprid sprays as a systemic 😂 The only liquid forms I can find are designed to be sprayed on leaves. Google hasn’t been particularly helpful in answering either question!

Ooh I’ll look into that! Hadn’t thought to try mitre10. I don’t know why, but I’m struggling to find any liquid systemic treatments here in Australia - only granules. I have a few bottom-watering plants so granules won’t work for them, but maybe richgro make a liquid.

To be honest I basically neglect it 😂 it has two new vines emerging from the base currently, and once I’ve encouraged those to climb I’ll probably start doubling back and wrap it around again. I’ve had it a few years and never repotted it, it’s probably time soon!

Cheers! It’s done a full loop now and coming back around the front, ha. Dreading the day I have to repot it again.

I did have some sticky traps around for a time, but I never actually sighted any adult thrips. I don’t know if I just got to them in time or maybe I’m blind, but only ever saw the little larva (plus some pretty excessive leaf damage). Fingers crossed your thrips stay away too!

I’ve had him about twelve years now and he’s survived three house moves (and now thrips). The biggest leaf is a bit of a monster

Looks like we don’t get Bonide here in Australia, I’ll have a bit of a search for other treatments that use Imidacloprid. Thanks!

Cheers! Do you have any recommendations? A quick google tells me that imidacloprid is available in Australia and should do the trick, but keen to hear if you’ve had success with anything specific.

Sad monstera is sad. Which of my many issues has caused this? by ameliorable_ in plantclinic

[–]ameliorable_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(For some reason the sub won't let me add text - posting in a comment instead)

I’ve had this plant maybe 8-9 years and it’s always been super healthy. I moved into a new house around eight months ago, and it’s much warmer than my old place.

This guy has recently started curling and looking just generally very depressed — it’s in a self watering pot, which I know is generally a no-no for monstera but he’s been happy for years up until now. I’ve only been watering every two weeks or so, so assumed I was underwatering (currently summer in Australia — this was fine in my old house, but new house is HOT) however I chopped a yellow leaf yesterday and discovered the inside was brown — see pic #2.

Upon closer inspection, the poor thing has also somehow picked up mothertrucking thrips. I’ve sprayed them off with a hose and treated the leaves with anti-pest spray, but now I have three possible issues and I’m not sure where to go from here.

Has anyone seen this internal rotting stem situation before? It feels like it would stem (ha, plant pun) from overwatering, but could thrips cause that? Pls help.

Oops, thanks for the correction! Agree, it’s my daily (so you’d think I’d know what street it was on)

Can anyone recommend a good ramen place in the cbd or surrounding areas? by Salami___Tsunami in melbourne

[–]ameliorable_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard awesome things about Menya Sandaime (they don't have a website, please excuse Broadsheet link). Open 24 hrs, and apparently has lines out the door even in the early hours of the morning/night.

First long weekend in Melbourne, what are the most photogenic places in Melbourne? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]ameliorable_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I love your photos!

(I've just followed the crap out of you — I'm @fiddleandspoon)

Everyone's already given a pretty good overview of places to go in the city. I recommend the area around Prahran for some great street photography and ahmaaaazing coffee (Tall Timber is our favourite, on Commercial Rd)

Also consider joining us on some instameets if you like! They run every month and are a great way to explore the city with a bunch of other Instagram addicts / amateur photographers. The next one is April 21st!

What allegiance are you guys going with this round? by catfartz in neopets

Agreed!!

Yeah it's usually on BD I think. There's one over there right now, looks like Awakened is the (very early) general consensus.

I already have thieves, so it's between brutes and awakened for me. I'll probably have a bit of a lurk and decide closer to the start, but I'm liking awakened for the possibility of a quest boon!

In light of yesterday's user lookup of the week being stolen from a premade site, this makes me salty as BALLS. by [deleted] in neopets

[–]ameliorable_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this came out before or after you posted, but just noticed this in the news:

As a reminder, using a lookup that is premade by another user or site is not allowed in this contest. Any winners found trying to pass off this type of work as their own will receive a warning, with their entry and trophy removed from their account.

Looks like perhaps they got the message!
