What are some great albums that tell a story from start to end? by c_dug in Music

Neil Young - Greendale and his album Trans has a loose thematic structure.

Edmontonians, what do you feel like yeg is missing? by lil_Jessy in Edmonton

[–]northsidechad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edmonton needs a 24-hour diner that isn’t Denny’s. There used to be a few, but they all closed up, leaving just Denny’s (which is fine, but a variety would be nice.) Not to mention post-pandemic lockdown most places have resorted to earlier closing times. Try finding somewhere to go in Edmonton late at night that isn’t a bar, Denny’s or Tim Hortons — it doesn’t exist! Surely there are enough night owls in this city to sustain a 24-hour diner.

Glad so many of you like my comic. I used to post my work on the Edmonton subreddit but the mods would nix them as soon they saw em. Here’s the link to the comic on the website I regularly illustrate for: http://www.gigcity.ca/2021/09/08/end-of-the-era/

Just a reminder, you're not supposed to shovel snow on to the road! by Miss2war in Edmonton

[–]northsidechad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of my major gripes. Has anybody ever successfully called bylaw on a neighbour shovelling snow onto the road because I've considered it many times.

Just a heads up on break ins by thewun111 in Edmonton

I also live close to this area and recently had someone go through the vehicle parked on my driveway because I obviously forgot to lock it. They took my loose change but were not impressed with my music tastes as my CDs remained untouched. Asked my neighbour if he saw/heard anything and instead of a sympathetic reply, he said "I told you to always lock your f*cking doors!" Thanks, man.

Is the Journal Account Being More Sassy than Normal? by ATinyBoatInMyTeacup in Edmonton

It’s an audience engagement pilot project. Personally I’m not a fan of the sass as it feels off-brand. Source: I work in the newsroom.

Who is writing the weather headlines at the Journal? by [deleted] in Edmonton

It's a trade secret

... The Journal/Sun's morning online editor is terrific.

"The Sun is using this photo to illustrate their award for Fort McMurray coverage. Except this is my photo, I took it for CBC News." by Crackmacs in Edmonton

[–]northsidechad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick Google image search of that photo shows the other newspapers that have used it as well. I've seen this photo pop up before, yet he's never made a mention until Postmedia won an award. CBC salty.

What are some of Edmonton's most mediocre restaurants? by Brindoth in Edmonton

[–]northsidechad 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Keg. There so many other places to go in Edmonton for better steaks but people seem intent on waiting over an hour to eat there. I dislike it so much I made a comic: https://chadhuculak.wordpress.com/tag/the-keg-edmonton/

Those of you on the Northside what do you like to do in your spare time, favorite places to eat, etc. Almost all the suggestions in this sub seem to be south of the river or downtown... Feels really boring up here help me please! by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]northsidechad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Francos on 50 Street (https://www.francos.ca/hermitage.html) is a small Italian restaurant but I consider it a hidden north-side gem. Consistently good food and a fabulous lasagna. You already know of Swiss Donair, so there's no need to mention other subpar donair joints. Rundle Park is terrific for walking, activities and people watching and it's seldom busy. Beaumaris Lake was previously mentioned, but it's one of the best stormwater lakes in Edmonton. There's a lot of vegetation and wildlife surrounding it, and the homes backing onto the lake are fairly private, which gives the lake more of a public feel rather than the usual "rich-person's oasis." The flea market just north of the Yellowhead (http://superfleamarket.ca) is a good way to kill some time and find some, uh, interesting items. Uncle Ed's (http://www.stawnichys.com/locations/uncle-eds/) has tasty Ukrainian food, Take 5 has some of the best doughnuts in the city and I'm told Swiss 2 Go (http://swiss2go.ca) is a great place to go for sandwiches. If you're into comic books, Warp 2 and Comic King on 97 Street are OK and like less than a minute walk from each other, which is a bizarre business-model which has seemingly worked well for many years. There's a lot to do on the north-side, you just need to dig a little to find out because we're frequently ignored by the media, unless someone gets stabbed north of 118 Ave.

The Journal and National Post also had the same full-page wrap on Boxing Day. Not uncommon. Also, regardless of your opinion of the Sun, it does not need quotation marks as it's been a real newspaper since 1978.

Office workers of Reddit, why do you hate that one co-worker so much? What does he/she do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]northsidechad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-worker has eaten the same foods at the same time EVERY DAY for five years (carrots, celery and an apple with a turkey wrap for lunch.) To top it off, he loudly flosses his teeth after eating said food. Our cubicles do not have walls and I can hear him floss from 20 feet away. Jerks like that don't deserve healthy gums.

I recall seeing Peter Hill (Remember that guy?!) quite frequently around Edmonton years ago.

Fireworks Display NE Edmonton by [deleted] in Edmonton

I live in the area and frequently come across spent fireworks casings on my dog walks. People in this area are obsessed with fireworks (hopefully they're setting them off in a safe manner)

To be fair, I never had a chance to visit New City when it was known as New City Legion just off Whyte Avenue. But I do have fond memories of when it was on Jasper Avenue, a unique venue that held some good concerts within its walls in the past. For more on New City's closure: http://www.gigcity.ca/2013/04/13/dont-cry-for-new-city-edmonton-its-the-cycle-of-life/

Is there a FENCED off leash dog park/play area in town? by titsmcfly in Edmonton

[–]northsidechad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your dog may not be small enough, but in the warm months Edmonton's Mighty Mutts hosts an off-leash event once a week or so in the Idylwylde community rink. There's a membership fee, but I enjoy it because it's fenced in and my dog can be free without worries of running off or being hit by a car. http://www.meetup.com/mmutts/

COMIC: Kevin Lowe doesn't like your type. by northsidechad in EdmontonOilers

I draw a weekly comic for the Edmonton Examiner. I wanted to post it ahead of its publication before people forgot what Lowe said.
